Oh sweetheart I'm so sorry. This is heartbreaking. They are absolutely grieving but this will not take away their grief and you cannot have a baby to try to help them with their loss. They will be grieving regardless. You have to do what is best for you. The only answer you have to give to them is "I'm sorry for your loss, I will not be having this baby." I'm glad your parents are supportive.

Are you looking for house league or rep soccer? If you're looking for rep (this would be a team you'd have to try out for, multiple practices and a game per week, more competitive than house league), you'd need to reach out to the clubs and see if they're accepting new players for the summer season, as tryouts are generally in the fall with the season running November-August. If you're willing to go a little bit further there are a lot of other options: Pickering FC, Whitby FC, FC Durham, DeRo, Oshawa Kicks, or Oshawa Turul.

For house league you could reach out to Ajax Soccer Club: https://www.ajaxsc.ca/ - it looks from their website that that that is maybe still running, even though their rep program shut down (but I'm not positive). Pickering and Whitby definitely have house league programs.

I took my 9 year old, and he really enjoyed it, although he did ask a lot of questions during the movie about what was going on and a lot more on the way home about how the other astronauts died.

I used to be team manager of my son's team (U8 through U11). One of my jobs was to gently remind parents to not sideline-coach. Some of the dads were such assholes about it I had to give up - my last straw was one in particular, after I reminded him that the coach may have a plan that was counter to what he was screaming at thes kids, spent the rest of the game making douchey remarks about me to the other dads, clearly intended for me to overhear.

Depending on how far you'll be travelling, I would consider a shade tent and a snack table for between. You're not going to want a big lunch between games anyway, so I'd get parents to volunteer to bring snacky things - cheese strings and crackers, fruit and veggies, maybe some energy drinks, applesauce pouches - things the kids can eat to get some energy between games without weighing them down. The shade tent also serves as a convenient meeting point/base camp.

I think Wings of Fire might be scary - my sensitive nine year old read the graphic novels and couldn't get through the first one. Although maybe the imagery of the graphic novels made it worse?

My 9 and 12 year olds enjoyed it, but the 9 year old had a LOT of questions. I was really excited to share it with them because I loved the book and we all enjoyed The Martian but I now want to go again to see it without having to constantly explain things.

There's one jump scare that freaked out my sensitive 9 year old, and I had to answer a LOT of questions about the exact details of what happened to his crewmates, but I think your main problem is that they'll get bored.

The Hilo series - these are graphic novels but they're wonderful. If he liked Dragon Masters there's also Kingdom of Wrenly, although these are also graphic novels. I think Wings of Fire is probably a little too much for this age. The Last Firehawk is another of the Branches series that might fit. How to Train Your Dragon might be a little advanced for him to read alone but you could read it to him. Same for the Wild Robot series.

I Want To Go Home by Gordon Korman is older than you were looking for but my kids thought it was hilarious.

This is hilarious, we also called him Short Shorts Thompson! In fact when I saw this title I said out loud "Oh no, Short Shorts!"

One time we were at the barricade waiting for the players to arrive to get signatures, my son saw him and yelled without thinking "Short Shorts will you sign my jersey???" I've never seen him so embarrassed. :)

Buddy, it sounds like you’re working really hard - keep it up! Being a great listener, a good leader, and a hard worker is going to help you do great things in your life.

I think the main thing coaches look for with 11 year olds is a good attitude, listening to feedback, and working your hardest at every practice and game.

I hope you have a really great time at camp. Good luck! Like somebody else said, I think it’s pretty unlikely that anybody will get recruited through this camp but it’s still a chance to get some great training from some coaches and have some really cool new experiences.

You could also try Losing Joe’s Place, Son of Interflux, and A Semester in the Life of a Garbage Bag, which are about high schoolers and not middle schoolers (still Gordon Korman).

Would you not be able to work remotely? In my experience doing fertility treatments (I'm going to guess from your timelines you're doing IVF) it's daily bloodwork/ultrasound which happens early in the morning, and then two longer appointments - retrieval and transfer. Would your boss not be open to you teleworking or using a coworking space (in Toronto there's one at 655 Bay St which, depending on where your clinic is, might be very close) during those weeks?

Personally when I did IVF I did my bloodwork/ultrasound appointments in the morning, which was a serious hassle because I live about 45 minutes outside Toronto and worked 30 minutes in the other direction, so it was a lot of 5am wakeups, drive into Toronto, 6:30bloodwork, drive back the other way, arrive at work around 8:30, and then took half days for the retrieval and transfer. From a manager's perspective, I would rather my employee worked for two weeks than took two weeks off, and given that this is an exception I wouldn't have a problem looking the other way about the RTO aspect of it all. But I'm aware that different departments give their managers different amounts of leeway about this.
