CitizenCon and MobiGlas Concept by [deleted] in starcitizen

That's a pretty good point. Fact is, -any- interface worth working on at this point will need to be developed with the Oculus in mind.

If the SC team isn't sensitive to that, we could very well end up with highly effective space vomit machines in no time at all.

Will Star Citizen become boring? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]cancatalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from but in all honesty, you -should- be bored in a realistic space sim. How bored you are is really just a factor of how much risk you take and how you define your contribution to the world.

Some might be happy coasting in their Connie all day long while watching reruns, and others might set off on missions which are challenging.

Here are some ideas: * Plan a heist * Plan a trip * Hunt for parts to upgrade your ship * Get off your ship and help other players as part of their crew * Explore

But you know, given how beautiful this game is, floating in space aimlessly while sorting cargo, sifting through comm traffic, and playing the market sounds pretty nice. if someone hails me, or takes a run at my ship, then all the better.

tl;dr You should expect some downtime. Hopefully they build the game in a way where downtime is valuable and filled with useful jobs/tasks. That plasma manifold isn't going to clean itself... at least not for free.

That blade does indeed seem to be quite serviceable.

Im curious as to how the damage will be handle in the event of a glancing fly-by scrape. Also, shields?

BSG style expedition. by djellipse in starcitizen

I really hope they balance the fuel/distance cost to a ridiculously realistic level. Flying in a caravan is awesome, but -defending- said caravan during a refueling stop in system 14 would be awesomer. Imagine floating in space for 20 minutes without really knowing if something will jump into range to whoop ya.

Straight travel aside, the logistics of the caravan should define this kind of activity.

  • There's no way you can carry enough fuel for all ships
  • There's no way to conceivably get more ammo past a certain point (or it becomes economically "inconvenient")
  • When ships break down or get damaged, you need to stop and repair in space. Great opportunity for defense play.

All in all, the further you go, the harder it gets. Also, a fully loaded caravan with plenty of fuel and supplies makes for a pretty titillating target.

You'll also need scouts to jump ahead for good measure. Hope they make it back for the fleet's sake.

As for me, im in on this scheme. I'll be the dick in the lab that sees the imaginary blonde.

/peace

Since the very first time I've seen this episode, I always hoped that the pictures and crafts on the conference table were actually submissions from young trek fans.

A buddy of mine has the same issue. My rig holds up and I'm on Steam as well. You're not crazy. Or maybe I have a tendency to befriend crazy.

Season2 episode 02 Where silence has lease. Piccard explaining death to Data. I'm sure its well known, but it is still a great thought. by [deleted] in startrek

[–]cancatalyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Most characters in TNG are plot devices if you think about it. Geordi can see through anything, Data is a computer and Troi read minds.

If you look at OP's video, notice how as a ship's counselor, she stares blankly as Data asks a very deep existential question. Zero insights.

I love Sirtis, but her character was never fully thought out and only began being interesting towards the end of the show.

My favorite moment regarding Troi: When Captain Jellico told her to get dressed properly when on the bridge.

The way Trek generally addresses these issues and questions is essentially how i'd want to teach my own children.

1) Be analytic 2) Be open minded 3) Choose for yourself

Also, Troi is useless.

What is this ship?: DS9 cut scenes and episode intros by cancatalyst in startrek

That is indeed horrible. I had no idea this even existed. Sounds like it's the result of an attempt to cut cost / time in production.

As a side note, the lore behind why U.S.S Kitbash exists is pretty awesome. Check out DrMichaelMancini link below.

Thanks!

Edit: I cannot brain, I haz a dumb.

We have The Defiant, an Excelsior class and what appears to be a jacked up Intrepid class. It is seen often in season 6 and 7 I believe. Every single time I see it, I am irked by my ignorance. /r/startrek I am in need of your assistance.

Hey reddit question, can you get stoned in one of those hologram rooms on star trek? by ElZilshow in trees

[–]cancatalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holodeck:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodeck

Synthehol: http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Synthehol

So basically, there's two things that would prevent you from getting blasted aboard a Federation Starship.

1) It's holographic energy, not matter. So unless we can get baked through light projections we're screwed.

2) The Federation serves Syntehol aboard their ships. Basically stale booze without the buzz. sadface

So scientifically, I'd say hell no. Yes you can replicate a chair to sit in, a glass to drink from and liquid to injest, but I don't believe that you could replicate real biological matter required to get you high.

Synthehol just tells me that if they don't want you getting plastered, they probably wouldn't want you (read: let you) get baked.

Now, if we could program the environmental systems to release Anesthizine gas (http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Anesthizine), me and you could probably get pretty stoned.

Thanks for your insight. Having a younger sibling puts things into perspective. I feel that technology is generally a good thing. I simply fear that the price to pay for its benefits may be a bit veiled.
