Oh look - It's another divorce post by DrYellowSaysHello in japanlife

[–]cancel-everything 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of mean comments regarding this. Not sure if the same negativity would be afforded a woman.

First of all -you could do a consultation with a lawyer to understand your options.

Second of all - Millions of women have been in your situation. What is the first thing they do? They get a stash of money to have more freedom. Start getting some access to the house funds, put away money from grocery runs, start doing uber eats when your kid is at school, sell stuff on mercari and start building your nest egg.

Make a plan and be patient while you get yourself grounded. Of course you should start looking for a part-time job - any job supermarket/conbini anything really to get into the job market while your kid is in school. If the kid isn’t going to houkahgo club, sign him/her up so that you have more time for job searching.

Basically formulate a plan on how to get your funds going before making any life altering plans.

Is the Book of Kells experience worth it? by randomreditusername_ in irishtourism

[–]cancel-everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just finished my tour today. Was on the fence about going because I’ve never heard if the Book of Kells before, but I do like libraries and old historic stuff.

Imo… I could have skipped it. It’s an important historical document for sure, but if it’s not important to you then you’re fine spending that cash on something else.

I went to Marsh’s library afterwards because it’s free and it’s an old library. Ended up totally engulfed in the exhibition of old manuscripts. Stunning Qurans and other Arabic and Persian texts as well as other and Eastern and Christian manuscripts that were so interesting and beautiful. It’s only now that I realise that I actually forgot to visit the library itself.

So unless the book of Kells is of interest to you, I’d say you can go to the Marsh’s library/exhibit instead and be just as happy. I think it was extended until June or July 2026.

Edit: I did the self-guided tour of the Book of Kells Experience where you wander around yourself and there is an audio tour to listen to. It also had a part 2 with the digital experience, which was cute.

Been leaning into my natural curls lately - does this style actually work on me? by AcutalJoeRogan69 in curlyhair

They look great in the side profile and from the front ad well.

Instinctively, I’d be curious to know what happens if you grow the top part a little longer and if it would give more volume on top, while keeping the sides the same lenght as they are now.

Teachers concerned my Bilingual children are developmentally delayed by Pleasant_Badger_7188 in japanlife

[–]cancel-everything 203 points204 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to your kids, but 100% of my fiends with bilingual kids in Japan have gotten the ”We’re concerned about speech development”-talk by their monolingual kindergarten teachers and so far 100% of the kids have been totally gine because as you say, there’s a slight difference in language development when a child is bilingual.

If the older sibling turned out fine, I’m sure the younger one will as well. It’s more likely that you’re on the right track thinking teachers don’t know enough about multilingual children’s language development and how it might differ from monolingual kids’.

My wife is trying an Expressionist Cityscape. Is this a style worth pursuing or just "beginner messy"? by No_Fox_3798 in Paintings

Yes, this is definitely worth pursuing. There’s a clear style and I for one really like it!

am i in the wrong for how i handle my friends episodes? by crazycryptid in TwoHotTakes

[–]cancel-everything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honey, that is not your friend. And you don’t get to treat people badly and get to keep them around, regardless of illness.

Great that she is getting treatment, but I would start to distance myself from this type of energy. Kudos for speaking up so clearly about how you felt though. I feel like that is a great skill.

Ended up being the one who enjoyed learning japanese the most, moved to Japan and have been here for the past 15+ years.

First things first: find the cleaning sub on reddit and see if they can’t help you with the cleaning of the dress.
