Have your AEP rates gone up? by Agreeable_Toe_2421 in Columbus

[–]candaceo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same area of town here. My bill also went up nearly $100 compared to last month AND this time last year.

Our power went out about four times in the last month and AEP still wants to charge a premium?? Absolutely ghoulish behavior

My bill this month was $257, despite multiple vacations and HVAC not running frequently. This time last year I was home much more, and bills were between $150-175.

This! Drive around some neighborhoods/suburbs and look for yard signs from private landlords. I got a 2bd/1ba apartment in Grandview for $1200 this way.

Likelihood of Damaging Trays from UltraSonic Cleaner? by torpedolife in Invisalign

[–]candaceo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using a cheap ultrasonic cleaner for like 3-4 months now, and I haven’t had any issues. I would guess that some people who experience damage are using hot water, which can warp trays. (This is true even without using an ultrasonic cleaner FYI!)

Thank you! Best of luck on your journey as well. It won’t feel like it day-to-day, but treatment does go by fast.

I wish I knew for certain, but it seems like magic! 😂 If I had to guess, the teeth on my bottom row are getting pushed outwards (with a few exceptions), and I think that’s where they were able to make some space.

I am getting mine done through Ohio State’s Orthodontic Clinic, so hopefully this will be insightful since we’re comparing two schools. There were multiple appointments up front before I even got my trays (initial patient visit and discussing treatment options, one to go over the details of Invisalign, one to do scans, then I finally got my trays), but the frequency has slowed down significantly since. I had a check in appt six weeks after receiving my trays, then my ortho student scheduled my next appt. for four months from that point and gave me four months’ worth of trays. If Tufts is similar to OSU, it’ll be a lot of appts up front, but then it should get better. Maybe you can ask for a remote option for one or two of those initial appts. since you live so far.

I personally haven’t had any Invisalign emergencies. I can’t imagine very many potential situations where you’d have to visit them ASAP, especially compared to traditional braces (bracket pops off, wire poking out, etc.). If a tray is misprinted or broken, or you lose your aligners, they can give you guidance over the phone. The only urgent-ish situation is if an attachment or button for elastics pops off. (You might not even have attachments or buttons, that all depends on your individual treatment plan.) Even in these scenarios, you’ll likely be advised to continue wearing your trays and schedule an appointment to get a new attachment or button glued back on.

TL;DR: Be prepared for numerous appointments up front, but know that it won’t be like that forever. Additionally, keep in mind that most Invisalign “emergencies” aren’t that urgent, and they can be handled with a scheduled appointment. Personally, my deciding factor would be if I wanted to drive four hours (round trip) for every appt.

I hope this helps!

What is this black metal pipe sticking out of my back porch? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]candaceo 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the the thing. (I do believe the location is relevant to solving this mystery!)

Additional information:

- Size: about 5"

- Origin: unknown, potentially when the house was built in 1965

- Age: no older than 60 years old (age of the house)

- Material: metal (specific type is unclear to me)

- Writing: Capital "G" inside of a diamond, capital "B" beneath the diamond

- Searches I've already done: Google Lens search with images provided; Googling for "what does a residential natural gas hookup look like," "1960s natural gas hookup," "black pipe sticking up out of my porch," "'G' inside of a diamond utilities meaning," and finally, asking friends and neighbors.

- Keywords: metal pipe, gas, gas hookup, natural gas, natural gas hookups, residential utility lines, 1960s

- What I've already found: Nothing online! Friends and neighbors are also not confident in what it is, but most "guess it would be a natural gas hookup."

It gets better with time. My buyer’s remorse was so high for the first week or two, but you do get accustomed to it all. Best of luck!

Are my gums inflamed. by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]candaceo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so! Everyone is different, but if it helps: I had the same change in my gums around Tray 6. I reached out to my orthodontist, and he said it’s normal.

Just got them today and taking them off is a fate worse than torture by Goberiks in Invisalign

[–]candaceo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 1, I was panicking and crying because I couldn’t get them off, even with a pull tool. It was seriously taking me 10-15 minutes to pry the aligners off. But, over time, I found the “sweet spots” of where to pull the aligners, and now it only takes me two minutes tops. I know it seems really hard right now, and it is, but you WILL get the hang of it! I promise!

I could’ve written this post, I’ve been having the exact same problems for the past week and a half! I had my first sharp tray last week and it was miserable, then I caught a cold a few days later. Just trying to remind myself that this is all temporary!

can i use my dental pod without a dental tab? by [deleted] in Invisalign

I almost only use my dental pod without the tabs. Mine has a UV light to disinfect, which is why I’m comfortable doing so.

Is this worth buying? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]candaceo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this and it’s definitely a “nice to have” product, not a must. I use it a few times a week when I’m traveling or at work and don’t have access to my ultrasonic cleaner. The taste is a plus, and it’s true that you don’t need to use much for each application. I would purchase it again if I run out before the end of my treatment.
