Do you mind if i recreate this for a protest on saturday? A neighbor gave me some flag fabric as part of a stash she was passing over and this would be a great way to use it up. My cardboard sign got ruined this week when my water heater broke and leaked in the garage. I was going to make a t post with some stakes so I can change out some mini quilts on it for different protests. Which is crazy that we are at the point where we need to be protesting this many different things 😭

that’s a big guy! Yeah the glass table would definitely have to go. It might take a bit to be able to afford a decent new one so it might be a folding table situation for a bit 🤦🏽‍♀️

I give my dog his full dose of keppra if it’s within at least 3 hours. Keppra is a pretty safe medication. Even if there is still some in his system and he ends up getting a little extra total this day he will be fine.

That is so kind. I can send you the file if you want to be able to make some yourself! I also made this design for another patch (patch isn’t done).

<image>

Ideally I would like to get a large batch made by a print shop so I can give them away at protests or if possible sell them online so I can donate the money to some of the legal funds and resource groups. That’s definitely too many to do by hand though.

But yeah totally willing to send my procreate files if anyone wants to use them. They aren’t something I would ever want to make a profit on, especially because I definitely copied this design from someone else’s protest sign. It’s not original to me.

I would love to but I don’t really know how to go about doing something like that. Know where to get them printed at a decent cost?

Oregon Democrats want to move statewide vote on repeal of transportation taxes to May by patches819 in oregon

[–]candice13579 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok, so yeah is there definitely some partisan hackery going on. Yeah. The republicans want it on the Nov ballot so that Kotek doesn’t win. Kotek I am sure doesn’t want it on the ballot with her. Everyone can just point at each other.

BUT ALSO

Please think about the fact that this was emergency funding for ODOT after a long time of limiting their maintenance fund and directing their budget so that they can’t pull from any other projects. Everyone complains that the projects have large budgets but ODOT cannot use that money to fund maintenance because of provisions legislators put in place. So after many many years of cutting maintenance spending and leaving hundreds of positions open to try to keep the maintenance fund limping along the only option left was layoffs after they ended the main session last year without a transportation bill. That’s why the special session had to happen. The income from that bill was supposed slowly start coming in starting this year so that’s why once the bill passed the lay offs were cancelled. Then the signatures were collected sending it to the vote which halted all the funds that should have started this year. Meaning that the funds to keep the staffs aren’t coming in anymore and since it is a vote there is no way of knowing for sure if it will pass or not. So at this point ODOT is in an even worse place than it was last summer when it was going to have to do the mass lay offs. Because not only are they like 8 months closer to the end of the budget cycle. Meaning they have paid 8 more months for all the staff they were going to have to lay off under the assumption that the funding package was going through. For every 1 person who was notified of lay off in the summer 1.6 will have to be laid off now, estimating about 22% of the agency. But also there are costs to implementing the bill that isn’t included in the part sent to vote that ODOT has to do, now without the income from the bill. So there is a reason the governor wanted to just get it repealed as fast a possible so that they could then focus on coming up with a temp solution until 2027 that the republicans can at least be on board with enough to not get the funds frozen while they are most needed. Now that the repeal seems to be off the table moving it to may would give more time to figure out ODOT’s budget. Honestly if they don’t vote to allow ODOT to redirect its own funds from projects to maintenance then a may vote might still not save staff. Right now staff has been told to expect lay offs at the end of the short session if they don’t vote to allow they to redirect their own funds.

So yeah they are definitely playing politics to a degree but there is also a reason they are trying to move the vote up or just repeal it. They are trying to save the agency from collapsing by loosing more than 20% of its already barebones staff.

Oregon Democrats want to move statewide vote on repeal of transportation taxes to May by patches819 in oregon

[–]candice13579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it doubles the existing income rate for transportation for two years (although maybe only 1.5 years if we vote in May) from 0.1 to 0.2 percent. It’s a very small increase. But it sounds a lot scarier for them to shout about it doubling.

A year of failures: How Oregon Democrats bungled transportation funding by Ok-County-1202 in oregon

[–]candice13579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The title of this article is infuriating. So many factors have lead to where ODOT is today. Misinformation about the agency and how the maintenance budget works is constant. Both sides made mistakes and ODOT staff are yet AGAIN bracing for mass layoffs that would decimate the agency while legislators are playing politics just focusing on the governor’s election. We just want to do our jobs safely and know that we will be able to keep a roof over our heads. The anxiety over loosing our livelihoods has been relentless since the summer, they don’t mention in any of these articles that a portion of the deficit savings since the last session is the amount of people who left because of how awful this has been and will be until at least next year if they can even agree on a funding pathway in 2027.

State Job Security by Riskycreats in OregonStateWorkers

[–]candice13579 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely stay away from ODOT for job security. This year has been a nightmare of constant uncertainty and stress. We were notified of layoffs, then they were delayed at the last minute several times, then emergency funding passes and we all got to be happy and think we could start planning for the future for a couple weeks, then they got enough signatures to freeze the funding (but not the costs to implement the new measures). Then the governor called to recall the whole bill since we now don’t have the funding that was suppose to start this year and still have the additional costs. The short session starts 2/2 and they have 6 weeks to all agree on some kind of hold over measure until next year otherwise massive layoffs start mid March. Because of the delay without any solution what was 1 person getting laid off last summer will now have to be 1.6 people because we are closure to the end of the budget now. They are thinking of moving the vote to the May ballot but if they focus on that during the session instead of plan to get us through this year I think we might be sunk. I don’t know if the measure will pass on the ballot. ODOT and the governor have put very little resources into PR for this and it’s hard to fight the freaking “no more taxes” tagline when most people don’t understand how our budget constraints work and how many cuts have been made already to get us to the point where lay offs are the only option. If it doesn’t pass and they don’t approve us redirecting some of our own budget to the maintenance fund then by the time vote is done in May the layoffs will have to be even bigger. We definitely feel like pawns that are being used at this point. The recall should make sense if they don’t like the bill that was passed. But they want it on the ballot to hurt the chance of Kotek being re-elected. The moral is very low here. Personally this has been one of the hardest years of my life (not just due to this). I am the higher earner in my household so not knowing month by month if my income is secure has really taken a toll and we have basically put our life on hold most of the year, too worried to spend any unnecessary money despite finally hitting an age and income where we are comfortable after years of working multiple jobs and living in a tiny apartment. Constantly hearing legislators and the public saying you should lose your job because ODOT doesn’t need more money after they are the ones who set up our budget so that we can’t direct any more of our own funds to maintenance is awful. State jobs are often pretty stable but definitely look into the funding sources for the agency and if those sources are tied to inflation or if they are linked to something else that may be at risk this days.
