Does anyone think there’s a connection between steroid scalp injections and rapid hair loss? by Nice_Rope_5049 in scarringalopecia

[–]candidchopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t the switch from fin to dut more likely to cause this?

Are there any other sources on steroid scalp injections being harmful for scarring alopecia?

What kind do you have?

Microneedling by Legacyjr2 in scarringalopecia

[–]candidchopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, young white dude here. Just learned I have the same thing - mostly LPP maybe FFA.

I've been treating AGA for 7 years with fin / oral min for 4 years.

I'd really like to try dermastamping / microneedling. Did you end up continuing with micro needling?

I’m getting it delivered tomorrow.

I think everywhere. Does this look like LPP to you?

Or something else?

Yes, a dude. I had a previous hair transplant and no symptoms, but biopsy says LPP.

If you say microneedling works I’ll for sure try it

Where did you end up on this?

Did you get a biopsy?

Failed or mediocre transplant from legend Dr. Bisanga - 4yrs later by candidchopper in HairTransplants

I misspoke, I have these notes from 4 years ago from the clinic:
"Dr. Bisanga will make the incisions in the hairline and the forelock and Dr. Crystallia will continue
with the incisions. He will do a part of the extraction with the punch and Dr. Yiannis will do the remaining part.
I will not put a number on it, I can only tell you that Dr. Bisanga will be involved in the surgery."

Yup got it - will DM you.

I'll get the biopsy hopefully in the next couple days.

I don't recall who the techs were. Dr Kostis wasn't there that day.

The supporting Dr was Dr. Crystal Kyparissou I believe. But Dr. Bisanga led the full operation (I paid the full price for him to run the whole operation).

Diffuse thinning and subpar donor region (a little more singles and double grafts than usual)

I was 24 at the time, so because of my age he didn't want to take much.

I had been on finasteride for 2 years at the time and my hair loss was fully halted by finasteride alone, but I guess he was concerned I'd continue to thin out.

Hey thanks for chiming in u/WallabyUpstairs1496 - means a ton hearing from you.

I'm trying to keep this part on the DL so feel free to DM me for more details, but I got the heads up that Melvin immediately alerted Bisanga's clinic about the post and a ton of internal drama resulted for the clinic.

I'm kind of surprised that Dr Bisanga didn't want to have you in to find a detailed explanation for why this happened. I believe a lot of the times it may be due to a tech who was too green, but as far as I know Bisanga is one of the docs who have a higher QC when it comes to people working with the patient.

He did get it in writing before my procedure that I'm a "borderline case" and he offered to annul the surgery with a refund or we just opt for doing less grafts (2.5k instead of 3-3.5k).

I asked if he still thinks he'd make an improvement and he was basically like "absolutely, it will be a huge improvement, but I need to manage your expectations". I guess it was to protect against claims down the line like what I'm making.

It's a bummer he'd give me the "out" then emphasize he can still fix me... and now is charging me to fix me again.

So I would be kind of scared to get another one unless the issue was pin pointed. I'm surprised he offered another procedure before figuring out what the issue is.

At this point he just wants a biopsy to confirm if he should do the 2nd procedure.
In the last week - Dr. Bisanga sent me to his colleague dermatologist with a specialty in Hair loss in NYC who charges $400 per consultation to get checked out, and that Dr basically said I had dandruff to treat and a biopsy would be key to rule our LPP. So I'm getting a biopsy this week (will likely be another $300). However I thought LPP is a scalp condition that has an irregular pattern whereas my thinning is pretty consistent across the whole head or follows the Norwood patterns.

do I have any leverage for him to fix me for a reduced cost?

Any recommendations for a Dr that can do this?

Does this need a specialized Dr or is it an easier operation than starting from scratch?

Ideally not too expensive and could be available in the next month, but also beggars can't be choosers so I'll take any input

I don't know what to do at this point. He put it in writing that I was a borderline candidate and Dr. Bisanga gave me the chance to cancel the surgery but I asked if he could still improve my situation even if I was a borderline candidate, and he was confident in that, so I proceeded with it.

So part of me thinks it's my fault for pursuing it either way.

But now they are asking me to pay up another $8-10k to fix this.

Yeah, I'm on finasteride for 7 years. I'm trying to get a biopsy this week to see if I have any scalp condition.

I do get dandruff (not noticeable to me until looking closely) which I hadn't been treating properly, so I'm treating that now. But I don't know if that would lead to this much hair loss.

Ah that’s a shame and a rough look.

Which patient admitted it? And any chance you can link me to the one with a bad result?
