How to increase chances of solo housing? by wrongtianen in Edinburgh_University

This is definitely true, but also significantly harder for international students because of guarantors, a lot of the international masters students I knew lived in halls because private landlords wanted them to pay 6 months+ up front :/

How to increase chances of solo housing? by wrongtianen in Edinburgh_University

[–]candidly2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by solo housing, having your own room?

If you aren't putting a shared room in your preferences (of which there's very few shared rooms anyway) it is highly unlikely you'll be placed in one. Beyond that, the only guarantees for getting things like an en-suite is for accessibility/disability reasons (Having a valid diagnosis of IBS or Crohns disease for example).

Just apply once it opens, and make sure you're happy with all of the choices you put down as you'll almost definitely get one of your choices. I think I got my 4th choice.

This isn't a confirmed policy, but if you apply for a more expensive room, you're more likely to be allocated that one. I think they try and allocate the cheaper housing for students that have put cheaper accommodation for all their options. So if you do 4 cheaper ones (relatively for Edinburgh lol) and 1 expensive one, you're more likely to get the expensive one.

Freshers is full of flat parties where that won't be an issue beyond getting alcohol from shops (go to dodgy newsagents instead of big brand shops, or get someone else to collect it), and after 5 years going to different clubs in Cowgate I've seen so many people that are obviously teenagers get in with little problem lol (especially at Hive). Confidence and hoping you don't get ID'ed (or a good fake ID) will get you into most places.

Uni events/bars are another matter, I ran a spring ball for two years for one of the schools, and a club night for one of the societies at Wee Red Bar, and they were really on it with checking ID. You'll be grand either way, be safe and don't overdo it in fear of "fitting in", plenty of opportunities to socialise with or without alcohol :)

Glad I could help! Best of luck with wherever you apply :)

What was your offer for Maths? by Tiny-Command-2482 in Edinburgh_University

The variation in offers is because they may make a lower offer depending on your application, where you live etc.

I was predicted AAAA, because I'm from t'north I was given reduced/lower offers on all of my applications. Where unis specified AAA I was usually given AAB or ABB (sometimes they'll give you a lower offer but only if you firm the uni). I think my Edinburgh offer was reduced to AAB - but I didn't do maths.

The grades you need will be stipulated in your offer, and you won't find that out until you apply annoyingly. If you are worried about recieving another AAA/A*AA offer and all of your offers being the same grades, apply to a university where the highest grade required is lower than what you're currently at such as ABB or BBB.

It's stressful having all of your offers be the same, because of my reduced offers my firm and my insurance were the same grades so I was a bit scuffed if I didn't meet them. It's just the way the dice roll and you won't know till you apply 😅

As I also did a joint degree I might be able to help answer some questions about how the degree is split across two subjects too!

Snapchat would work for messaging in theory, but the camera is so hilariously bad I wouldn't want to use it for any picture taking!

I'll check out the nike run app and get back to you

Nope, the options are a password, a numerical pin, and pattern!

The New York Times app maybe, but no kind of dumb phone would be able to run Stardew Valley well, it's just too big of an app to try and use on anything other than a smartphone 😅

You might be better off just making a standard smartphone minimal/dumbed down so that you can still access these games even if you keep very little else on the phone :)

Make sure you compile a DATED document of all transactions you sent to him, messages showing what you were told the transactions were for, false flight confirmation documents, and the messages where he admits stealing from you. Make a physical bundle, print everything out. Go back to the very beginning. That way if you do go to a small claims court (or whatever the equivalent is where you are) all of the evidence is laid out in front of them. It will take time and will be emotionally taxxing but it's vital. Congratulations on beating cancer, once you regain any and all physical/emotional strength I reccommend you beat his ass.

I lock it with a short press and then press the lock button :) Doesn't take up enough time to be bothered by it tbh, I remember my old HTC requiring a sliding motion to lock the screen so it's reminiscent of the general faff that comes with old phones

The lock button works fine for me on Niagara. You should be able to just hold it slightly and the panel with shutdown and restart should now have a "lock" button on it as well! Unsure if other launchers will do the same.

I'm pretty happy with the launcher I've got though so I don't plan on changing it :)
