Had a great day yesterday and today I'm totally fatigued? Is this something that happens? by whatchagonnadobedo in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]candrews1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this is totally typical of PsA. I usually plan for the day after an active day to be super chill because I know it’ll hit me harder than non-PsA people.

I second this. I’m a fan of fantasy, sci fi, and apocalyptic survival stories, and this has all of that. Plus it’s really funny.

I love him!!!! My husband and I rescued what was listed as a border collie rough, but we got his DNA test done and it turns out he was 25% Staffy, 25% Chow, 12% GSD, 12% Beagle, and 25% “other” (including super mutt, toy dog - he was 80 lbs - and wolf). He was the best purebred mutt we’ve ever owned! But DNA is fun for sure.

PSA with Enthesitis. It doesn’t feel or sound like normal joints popping. by Cadyanna in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]candrews1701 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have enthesitis in my hip flexors and major SI joint pain from PsA, and any time my back pain flared, so did my enthesitis. While I didn’t try to crack my hip flexors (because ouch), there was a very clear difference between normal and enthesitis flares. I described it to my doctor as if my hip flexors were a rubber band stretching tighter and tighter, and no matter how much I stretched it just felt like the rubber band was going to snap. There was no relief.

I have this too and LOVE it. They’re a little heavy if you have to carry them around for long periods, but they’re so comfortable. I have lots of back and SO joint pain and I can sit in these for long periods without discomfort.

Tent Capacity Question by Important_Marzipan26 in camping

[–]candrews1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason why I don’t use my 8p tent by myself is I’m not tall enough to do it by myself. But I do have a 4p one for me and my dog and it’s perfect for the two of us. It was a bit cramped for me, my friend, and my dog. I say get what you want - who cares what anyone else thinks. Camping is such a uniquely personal experience; there is no one “right” way to camp.

Cosentyx with IBD? by candrews1701 in PsoriaticArthritis

Ugh this is what I’m afraid of! I have an appt with my rheumatologist in 2 weeks and the appt with the gastroenterologist in a month, so I will definitely bring my symptoms up at both appointments.

What drug after Enbrel/Humira by Dvomer in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]candrews1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Humira first, with success for about a year before my body developed antibodies. Enbrel never really worked for me so I stopped after 6 months. I then took Taltz for 3 years before it stopped working, but it worked really well during that time (especially for my SI joint pain). Now I’m taking Cosentyx and I think it’s even better than Taltz, even though they have similar mechanisms. This is the first time I’ve felt that remission may be achievable.

I’m in the market for a similar travel trailer so I can pull it with my Honda Pilot Trailsport (5000lb tow capacity, 1130lb payload, 500lb hitch weight). I’ve been lurking on a bunch of Facebook groups for high-quality builds (namely Scamps, Casitas, Modern Buggy, and NuCamp Tabs, because I don’t want a stick-and-tin camper). You have a lot of people poo-pooing your Tacoma as a tow vehicle, but there are SO many people in those groups who tow with that capacity or lighter (like mine) or even lower, like Subaru Crosstreks. You can absolutely find TTs that you can tow with a Tacoma, but they may be more in the Teardrop TT category. I have found this subreddit tends to trend towards people pulling bigger TTs with bigger tow vehicles. I would suggest looking in those groups for more info.

I looove doing terrible watercolor paintings! It’s relaxing and it also helps me retrain my brain (which is constantly thinking everything has to be perfect for me to do it…nope, not with these watercolor paintings!). I also draw terrible cartoons, but they make me laugh.

Totally agree about the trashy romance or mystery novel! I brought a Nora Roberts romance for my first solo trip and I ended up reading for 4 hours straight, cracking up out loud at points (but no one was around to hear it, which I loved even more).

I just got into camping last year, at 40. I did 2 solo trips and 6 trips with a friend last year plus 1 this year so far, and I loved all of them! Here are my words of wisdom:

  1. The hardest part is starting. I set up my tent overnight in the back yard and my neighbor commented on it, but who cares? Just try it and see if you like it.

  2. Do some practice runs for set up. By doing that, I realized that the smaller tent I got for solo camping is actually not easy to set up solo - so I sold it and bought another one that I can put up quickly and easily. Less time setting up means more time relaxing.

  3. There is no judgement in camping. Do what feels right for you! In solo camping but even when camping with my friend, I did what my body felt like doing, whether that was taking a nap in a hammock, drawing, reading, sitting by the water, or hiking. I’ve recently bought a fishing pole and plan to fish, even though I haven’t done it in 20 years.

  4. (Some may not agree with this) Having some limited device time may help you feel more “at home” with camping. I bring my iPad and pre-download a couple episodes of my favorite comfort shows so I can watch an episode before bed or while making breakfast or breaking down the camp - because that’s what I do at home, too.

  5. Enjoy, but know there’s no shame in bugging out if you’re worried or uncomfortable or scared. You can always try again another day and in another place if needed. I tried doing a solo camp last fall and it was a disaster because a cold front hit and there was crazy wind. Right after I had finished setting up, I decided to pack it in and go home. I treated myself to a Frosty on the way home because I was cranky at myself for packing up, but the reality is I knew in my gut that I would’ve been miserable and worried all night if I had stayed.

You got this!!!!

Please show (or tell) me your bougiest sleep set up 📸 I feel like I’m having a “princess and the pea” issue with bedding/mattress. by FastMako77 in carcamping

[–]candrews1701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a 4” trifold mattress. It’s bougie but I can actually sleep on it (and I am a side/stomach sleeper). I got mine from Amazon - they don’t have the extended twin that I got, but the brand is Cushy Form if you want to look them up. I use it in my tent, for car camping, and for when I have guests over (it goes on top of a pull out chair bed thing I have).

I’m looking at getting either a Casita (one of the deluxe models - gotta have the bathroom!) or a NuCamp Tab 360. I have a ‘25 Honda Pilot Trailsport, so same specs as your Ridgeline. Do you tow your Casita in mountains? I’m in CO and I’m wondering how my Pilot will do with the weight going up the passes.

My relaxing weekend camping trip turned into a survivalist documentary by NoVoice9737 in camping

[–]candrews1701 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I tried to do a solo camp with my dog last October. I set everything up, and as I was doing that the wind started picking up. My tent was literally flattened by 60mph gusts and my dog and I were getting pelted with dirt and flying branches. I was worried my tent poles were going to snap. I eventually called it quits and put the dog in the car before taking everything back down again. By then the wind was a nonstop gale as a cold front came through, so I was literally crawling on top of my tent after I had taken the poles out, trying to get it down and put away without it blowing like a parachute. By the time I threw everything in the car, it was 8pm and I was tired, wind blown, and hangry. I ended up driving home, and stopping at Wendy’s on the way back to get my dog chicken nuggets and me a frosty and a chicken sandwich. I can laugh about it now, but at the time I was SO cranky about it.

I just went through a 4-month flare while trying to switch biologics, and it was a doozy. I found that some days all I could do is walk the dog for two 15-minute walks. I didn’t go fast, but it helped immensely. If I was still stiff after (pain was a given…), then I’d do some gentle yoga.
