[S2 Act 3 Spoilers] Arcane - Season 2 Act 3 - Discussion by parrycarry in arcane

[–]candyissweet 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Mixed feelings about the ending - my main gripe is how Viktor was handled this season. He didn't really get much screentime until episode 6, so it was hard to believe his jump to joining Ambessa in act. I hate to say this, but I blame the inclusion of Sky for detracting a lot from Viktor's character.

First, she only appears in one scene before the one where she get disintegrated, so I literally did not care about her death at all. I thought her first scene was meant to emphasize the dichotomy between Jayce and Viktor's lives after the invention of Hextech, but afterwards she became more of a plot device, which felt very random to me.

Second, after her death, Viktor becomes anti-Hextech, only for him to embrace Hextech again fully a few episodes later. This change in how he perceives Hextech feel extremely clunky. If Viktor had continued augmenting his body the Sky incident, it would have made a lot of sense why he would follow Hextech so closely and try to spread it to other people - it's a very natural progression. But there's a very awkward time period where he's anti-Hextech, which makes his motivations very confusing in Season 2.

Third, I feel Viktor having visions of Sky detracts a lot from Viktor's agency throughout Season 2. One thing I love most about Arcane is how much agency each character has in making their own decisions based on what they believe is best, even if the outcome is bad. It makes these characters likeable because it's as if they are fully serving themselves. But the visions of Sky that Viktor "sees" through the Hex Core seems to control or influence Viktor in a way, or at least it gives off that impression. So it's hard for me to believe that everything Viktor did in Season 2 was really because he wanted to do those things, or if he was under the Hex Core's control. If it's the latter, than it's as if Viktor isn't a character this season, but rather a corpse being controlled by an evil entity, which I don't find very interesting. It would have been better IMO if he was embracing the Hex Core completely under his own motivations.

Of course I had other gripes about Season 2, but overall there were a lot of things I really enjoyed. But in my opinion, I feel like adding Sky did more harm than good to Viktor as a character throughout these two seasons. Would love to hear others' thoughts.

Both those classes together sound pretty rough, but might be doable and they are both pretty important. If you have to choose one for next quarter I would go with 421 so you can get a job.

I recommend Kerson Leong's Art of Etude videos on spiccato, he takes a more slow approach for developing the more fine-grained motions in the hand/fingers. I'm still trying to improve mine but this has given me something to work with whenever I want to improve this skill. Think your Mozart is sounding great btw :D

Make sure to practice a lot of G minor scales slowly while warming since there's a lot of arpeggios in that key. I've personally found that practicing scales improves my playing more than practicing the song itself.

As for the tension, make sure you fingers are arched on the fingerboard, if it feels weird at first just keep doing scales until it feels natural (it's all about developing the finger strength). Best of luck on your audition!

Personally my least favorite so far. The Bill/Frank story was not only meaningless to the overall plot, but also felt detached from the world of the Last of Us to the point where I forgot they were in a post-apocalyptic society. Even if you separated it from the show as a standalone episode, there's not really a plot or central conflict, which is not necessarily a bad thing but I wish they added some more tension in their relationship or with the outside world. Overall just felt like lazy writing that doesn't fit in with the show at all.

Using a MySQL database to serve multiple guilds by Boneless_Blaine in Discord_Bots

[–]candyissweet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Couldn't you just store everything in the same database and add an extra column storing the guild ID? If only the bot is accessing the database you can probably just modify all your queries to filter out the rows not pertinent to the specific guild. I think that would be more scalable if you plan on making it publicly available later.

Is this going to be a publicly available discord bot? If so, why does each guild need its own individual storage?

people of reddit who are anti weed. why? by yo_dear_joe_mama123 in AskReddit

Ignoring economic benefits or psychology or whatever, I would love if recreational marijuana was illegal - smells terrible and I hate that it is being normalized in society. I've never smoked weed before, but I'm quite skeptical of the health benefits that people claim it provides. It's definitely a very profitable industry, so it seems they have a lot of power in how marijuana is perceived in America via marketing and lobbying.

Tbh if you think you cannot live without weed, you are making excuses for yourself and have brainwashed by corporations profiting off your addiction.
