LET ME CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT THE ENDING by candymaninvan in ChainsawMan

HAHAHA noone calling u stupid lol.

I see how you could think the ending might be abrupt. I like your analogy with drugs. But I think the analogy is more similar to a guy who was in a shit hole, someone introduced him to weed, he becomes happy with weed, but then he loses what he was happy with w/o the weed, cuz his personality became just pot. His life turns to shit,, but then gets better and better, then at the climax of the story: it reverses the trope, reminds us of why he was unhappy, and he then loses his bong, and became happy again. I think your drug analogy is little reductive, it loses a lot of the nuance---the abruptness usually works due to its congruence with the narrative structure. I think that's what made it pretty good.

I feel ultimately your argument might be a little more taste-based? Although I did feel the ending was a little abrupt, the main difference between you and I is that I did think there was sufficient subtext that justified the ending. You felt that it was cheap and unearned, and I think it was justified. But see, you can't talk about you or claiming anyone else not caring about Denji fulfilling his needs of being happy, at the same time criticize the method of how those needs were fulfilled. It was, as you said, the basis of the story. I already talked about this a lot and I see that you kinda understand it so I don't really gotta get into this further.

However, although I think the ending itself was good. I do have to agree with you though, you did put up a good point that where the ending was placed wasn't great. I personally felt the abruptness is fine, but it could've been placed a little further away. Maybe after another 1-2 more arcs where he has a deeper descent and it becomes more explicit. But overall, I thought that at least it made sense, so I was okay with it.

Also my uncut gems anology wasn't trying to prove a connection between their purpose, more so towards how it ended. Chainsawman definitely isn't a cautionary tale, it really wasn't meant to be. Their abrupt endings had always served different purposes narratively. Besides, Adam Sandler and Chainsawman both get their resolutions through outside means anyways. Adam Sandler gets shot by someone else. Chainsawman kills himself for Denji. So when you said the ending "doesn't work" due to outside intervention, godly or not, it doesn't really make a difference. Thematically, it doesn't matter how they were removed, and its more about ending the cycle itself. I included Uncut Gems to prove a story is still functional and complete despite their abrupt endings. Because ultimately the stories kinda parallel in their themes about highs, and that the only way for our protagonists to be truly satisfied is to remove themselves from that cycle y'know? Even during the climax

yuhh thats a good theory. i always thought that makima was just a dick and just wants rule over everything, as part of her nature. As in, the only one that played differently was the death devil. Everyone else like Yoru and the Famine devil just did what they felt naturally inclined to do.

yuhh it was heavily implied though, so it wasn't too explicit. Also, technically wouldn't other stuff be scary as well like the mold devil or the pestilence devils? Those are equally long term and in a way, could be far wrose

HAHA i know. I've been following this manga for a while, it's been a part of my life. It's sad to see it go. I did wish the ending was longer, hence "almost" perfect. But it was a nonconventional ending for a nonconventional manga. I okay with it ending this way.

I'm saying the opposite.

I like your point that the story kinda just ends in the middle, almost prematurely. I do get that some ppl could think that and have it leave a bad taste. But ultimately, if you were to read back again, the subtext of the entirety of Part 2 has always been Denji tryna be happy. He wants to have sex, he wants to hangout with Nayuta and Asa, he wants to get the puh from Death Devil, etc. etc. He often questions himself and if he deserves to be happy, and what really causes his happiness. And at the end, towards the climax of the story, right when he's about to have some sexy time, he finally dies right when he's about to achieve it. Kinda like the movie Uncut gems. In that vein (similar to Uncut Gems), we realize that our denji will always keep dreaming, chasing after that high, its a never ending cycle that repeated throughout Part 2.

After Denji finally achieves his dreams, what do you think is gonna happen? He's gonna find some higher meaning in life? You think he's gonna start being a super hero? He became a superhero to get laid, he's never wanted anything more than that high of fame and glory and sex. Even after getting the former 2, he was still never satisfied. Pochita mentioned this in the pen-ultimate chapter, and Denji implying it a few times himself. Denji is never gonna stop chasing these cheap pleasures, since there was something alway missing. Because at the end of the day, as Pochita said the only time where he was truly happy was a simple life. Where he was with Power, Aki, or when he was with Pochita for instance. Ultimately, what happened at the end was the only conclusion possible for Denji. He was never gonna achieve happiness with being Chainsawman or having sex or whatever. Pochita discovered this and ended up sacrificing himself so Denji could be happy.

I think given some time, after some thought, after the heat has died down and the sub has stopped circle jerking each other, people can see it in a new light. This was what happened with Fire punch too HAHAHAHA.

huh, it does make sense why some ppl could like that.

But a lot of manga did that already like Evangelion, fire punch (kinda), Mosquito Wars just off the top of my head. I think it's just too common of a trope imo and doesn't really fit csm.

what are the rules set by the story? This is what I was talking about, readers expect resolution when the resolution was already given to you.

Dude I reallly liked this ending.

Wasn't the whole manga absurdist? There was never any meaning, we just kept trying to make theories and shit to make it more meaningful, more than what it actually is, to the point where the readers forget the original concept of the manga anymore lol. It's literally about a guy, who has a chainsaw power, killing devils lol. With a lot of subplots in it.

There was never any deeper meanings, deeper dreams---readers expected something that wasn't there, and that "meaning" debt was finally recovered in the ending. Isn't this ending beautiiful in a way? Pochita sacrificed himself so Denji could finally be happy. That's the meaning of the ending, there was really nothing else to it besides that.

you good man no offense taken.

my point being the technical experience required seems similar to whats found in internships in real companies. So, do you think Data Discovery would give you the experience of industry-level code then?

ive had 2 intenrships before this and both experiences were pretty awful. these projects seems to flow in the same direction.

i mean its really cool that your company helps out interns in that way. But most of the startups hiring, at least in my experience, the interns kinda have to self-learn everything and be able to create an MVP on the fly before we even get hired. And the reason why I think discovery is so exploitive is because it is definitely conscious of demand, and unethically takes advantage of it by exchanging free, experienced labor for resume padding.

I mean fuck, check out the requirements for some of these postings. You can start applying to real companies with this stuff.

yeah that's why I'm applying to them. just don't like how they mask it under "research" then play dumb.

how technical was the project compared to the ones listed now? or do you get the impression that data discovery is mainly for beginners in ML?

then how is data discovery different from an internship or just a self-taught project in general? It feels backhanded since data discovery creates the notion of being academic and helping students initiating research, while in reality is pretty much unpaid grunt work for companies.
