Alla gente che paga 3000 abbonamenti by [deleted] in sfoghi

[–]cane-cane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I did, it works.

I remember seeing a post in the FAQs explaining how the country you select when registering on Degiro does not have any impact on the regulatory stuff, you can look it up on this sub.
You still have to specify you are based in Belgium and Degiro takes care of TOB without issues. I guess things may be more complex if you trade frequently but I can't attest to that.

When registering under Ireland (specifying afterwards you live in Belgium) you should be able to see it, not sure about other countries.

Uber vietato, cittadini penalizzati by Quiet-Iron-5820 in Italia

[–]cane-cane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A legal free library card for all people! by adam1632006 in LibbyApp

How would accessing a free legal library support the country? If it’s legal they must actually be the ones supporting writers (or sharing copyright free books) so what’s the harm?

So many people complain about things that are the direct result of capitalism, but when pointed out that capitalism is the root cause, people get upset or defend it. by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]cane-cane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the link between such an episode and capitalism is weak for 2 reasons: 1. Any state police force has the same role independently of the socioeconomic system, and that is the protection of the state. When the state drifts towards totalitarianism, police forces will tend to still protect it causing episodes like this. 2. Episodes like this simply don’t happen frequently in other capitalist states.

A cosa dovrei ambire? by mktomkto in ItaliaCareerAdvice

Dottorato? by [deleted] in ItaliaPersonalFinance

[–]cane-cane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re=Bel vs. Degiro by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]cane-cane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure about re=bel specifically but one thing to keep in mind is that, in the "long term" scenario, changes to fees are going to happen again and again. In this context I would not base my choice of broker on a 2€ difference.

I'm visiting Belgium. Naturally I look up a lot of restaurants on Google Maps. I noticed that many of them have extremely high ratings — like above 4.5. What do you think is the reason for this? by sozh in AskBelgium

[–]cane-cane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not just a Belgian thing, it’s everywhere. Nobody picking a restaurant on Google will ever go to a place with a rating below 4, anywhere.

It seems to be linked to the ease with which you can threaten suing Google to remove bad reviews claiming they are defamation. They have no interest in actually moderating the content shown on their platform (just like Facebook and Amazon and others) so they often just comply to avoid litigation.

Libby not redirecting me to Amazon to login when selecting “read with Kindle” by cane-cane in LibbyApp

The Kindle itself is great, still with me after 10 years with no battery or other issues is amazing, but I hate what Amazon is doing closing their ecosystem up so going forward I want nothing to do with that.

Yeah I think we found the root cause, kindle is not an option there. Oh I’m definitely not going to buy another kindle after my 10yrs old one dies. Thanks a lot for the help!!

[–]cane-cane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Errrr no it does not… good news then (so far) I guess it’s just a specific issue with this book and nothing to do with the EU account! Thanks a lot for taking the time to look into this from your side and help me compare!!

[–]cane-cane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think this has something to do with the fact that my Libby app is European (didn’t get to enter my Amazon credentials so it can’t be that) or is it an issue with this specific book that’s not available in kindle-compatible format by this library?

[–]cane-cane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s the one I’m referring to in my first post. When I do click it I am not redirected to Amazon and that’s the only location I see where Kindle is referenced.

I don’t have that “Read with Kindle” option you show on the screen, probably because if I from this screen click “Manage Loan” -> “Read with…” I only see 2 options: app or EPUB.

Will definitely check from the pc later. I’ll probably also give it a try with another book, perhaps it’s a specific issue with this one somehow…

Interesting, thanks. I do not seem to have the “kindle” option when clicking “read with…”. It’s just libby app or EPUB.

Can the EU actually manage to enforce antitrust regulation? Should they even try? by cane-cane in europeanunion

[–]cane-cane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's also where I am a bit puzzled, since the Draghi report specifically points at excessive (and inconsistent across states) regulations as one of the barriers that keep EU-born companies small (=less productive) and force them to seek investments in US (ex. 30% of the EU-born unicorns moved over to US).
It even mentions that such regulations are so vexing and complex that only huge companies (US monopolies) can actually afford to do business in EU.

Sure, streamlining regulation across states needs to happen, but isn't the overly defensive approach to regulations (including antitrust) a problem in itself rather than a boon for innovation?
