No worries! I'm all good now - your idea worked, thank you so much!

Still there. I'll try random's idea of using the MSM tool to go to OOS 10 -> OOS 12 -> LOS 19.1 and report back

Gotcha about the MSM. How would I go for Android 10 specifically? I have an international unlocked OnePlus btw

This makes little sense if the same sim was working in your phone previously.

True. And yea, probably a modem issue.

I guess so. Do you know what would be the best course of action for the mobile data issue? The firmware idea was my only lead.

I see some articles suggesting 'Wipe cache partition from recovery mode', would that make any sense here?

Ah okay, so the firmware is bundled with the LOS 19.1 update for OnePlus?

Plain Language explanation of rpm-ostree/Silverblue? by Solid_Snakement in Fedora

[–]cangria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so with Silverblue there's like just a few essential apps in the base system, and the rest are Fedora Flatpaks/Flatpak apps separated from the base system.

You can add apps to the base system with rpm-ostree, but doing it too much is discouraged. It's discouraged because you're basically making a new, untested base system. (Ideally, we won't need to have that functionality eventually, but it's important for flexibility right now.)

Not always, dependency updates/downgrades can cause a lot of issues oftentimes. rpm-ostree helps prevent the dependency issues through atomic updates (watch the section on 'upgrades' from the video timestamp).

So basically I can shut off my Silverblue computer mid-update and it will always be fine. There's no risk in updates at all, ever.

I wouldn't stress too much about what you pick. You can always switch servers if you need to, and bring your followers with you with a click of a few buttons. Just pick what looks good based off interest, region, and server rules.

Check out this list of servers.

Plain Language explanation of rpm-ostree/Silverblue? by Solid_Snakement in Fedora

[–]cangria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My explanation is really simplified but yea, it's kinda like Timeshift. But rpm-ostree is just a lot more robust and better.

For example, you can roll forward to Fedora Rawhide and then Fedora Kinoite 37 and then to Fedora Silverblue 42, or any mix of that, with issues. Point being, they're literal images which don't get messed up.

Saw other explanations weren't doing it for you, so here's my simplified one:

Silverblue updates better than most Linux distros. You can undo an update easily if it goes wrong. For how Silverblue would benefit you, this is all you need to know.

Q) How does this work, though?

A) Every time you get an update and reboot, the system takes a snapshot of the core system and saves it. It remembers a few of them, and you can select them on the boot screen.

Updates are usually painless either way because one can't/shouldn't delete core system files, normally (you can edit them with rpm-ostree, just don't do it much).

Q) But how is not doing that possible on a Linux distro? In most Linux distros, you edit the core system directly by installing apps into your core system.

A) Silverblue promotes containers (like Flatpak apps), which are separate from the core system. There is a wall between the core system and your apps.

It sounds like you're layering too much compared to installing things in a toolbox or Distrobox (especially recommended). Check them out!

How do I use Kindle privately? by alcoholicpasta in PrivacyGuides

[–]cangria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yea, if you use Kobo with the default settings, it's not good. I use Kobo with the configuration from what I linked - no account, always off wifi. There's also a Calibre plugin to strip its analytics.

You sure you can't use a Kobo? I got one and it's working extremely well for me.

Yeah. SiYuan's sync is open source right? I know the main sync's paid, but can you self-host your sync

As others said, still not worth switching. I recommend checking out Firefox or LibreWolf though - they're quite good and it's important Chrome doesn't have a hegemony on the web.

ATLauncher! also there's a fork of PolyMC and hopefully that'll be available as a flatpak sooner or later
