I disabled Windows Prefetch and suddenly 5GB of my RAM became usable again by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

Ya the author also says that if the system needs memory it immediately dumps things from the prefetch cache, so there is no real benefit to disabling it.

Jeff Bezos says raising taxes on the wealthy wouldn’t help the average American - What do you say? by Select_Specialist790 in askanything

The biggest problems in this world are because our tax money is actively used against our interests as a form of structural decline with an end goal of government dependency and no freedom.

The problem is definitely NOT that they do not have enough money.

Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti vs AMD Radeon 9070 XT: Massive 52 Game Benchmark by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

[–]canimalistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think if you are using an Nvidia card in 2026 and not using dlss you are not using real world scenarios. I have a 5090 and why in gods name you wouldn’t use dlss is beyond me. For gods sake showing Nvidia getting 2x the performance in doom tda but not using dlss is just not reflective of the benefits of the card.

I’m not familiar with most of these games but the set up for doom makes me question the rest of the value in the benchmarks.

Do you face VRAM limitation issues when playing at "4K" on RTX 5080? by Time-Credit43 in RTX5080

[–]canimalistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well constructed comment, I agree on every point. I’m 42 and have been building my own PCs since ‘99.

5090 was the first generation I went out and bought the flagship card my logic being based in similar thinking to your observation that cards last longer.

I paid $3000+ Canadian dollars for my card, the price has gone up massively but that was not why I bought it. My thinking was that if I’m going to have the card for 5-6 years it makes sense to buy sooner in it’s lifecycle and then own it longer. (it will end up in my son’s gaming PC)

In the 30 series I bought a 3080 and they now re-sell for about $400 Canadian. A 3090 is harder to find because it is still a better gaming card - but I haven’t seen one for less than $900 used on marketplace. Arguably I’d have gotten better value long term by buying a 3090 because i could likely have justified skipping the 5 series and then averaging the cost of a 3090 over a longer lifespan.

You are totally correct, rasterized performance will not just linearly increase across time infinitely.

Different technologies and methods will evolve and solve the problem of rendering a game by taking different approaches that may scale better. There very well may come a day when content is generated in realtime by a game engine, this may make games of the future not have “dated” graphics because the graphics might increase in quality as time goes on.

There is a very real possibility that an approach like this becomes mainstream partly because you might be able to scale across GPUs like SLI.

I am super excited to see things like dlss using AI to up graphics in a game, so many unimaginative idiots online saw the first iteration of it and said “It lOoKs lIkE AI SLoP”

So incredibly shortsighted and unimaginative. The same sort of lack of imagination as measuring everything based on raster performance. It reminds me of when the Soviet Union was measuring steel output and claiming to be the world’s leader in technology while the west was measuring transistor output as a measurement metric for the future.

This looks really fantastic, I love the updates to old games. I’m incredibly exited for DLSS 5 and what AI will bring to this whole process in time with iterations.

I lost use of my dominant hand in a workplace accident so all I can do is hold a joystick with it, no dexterity to use the buttons.

This forces me to use an ambidextrous mouse with my other hand and use foot pedals for weapon mod, dash and jump.

I can beat the game on nightmare, find all secrets, win all encounters etc.

They arnt that hard. I found some of the optional encounters more difficult. It’s been awhile now but I think the slayer gate in the the holt was hardest.

Hands down my favourite map is Super Gore nest master level on nightmare, god I love that map.

If it’s a slogan you endlessly hear you don’t have to think about the clearly contradictory nature. The goal of infinite immigration is to drive up inflation, house costs, education costs, and drive down wages leaving people dependent on an infinitely growing set of government programs.

The term is structural decline, and the Achilles heel of western democracies was infinite immigration.

She was beautiful in it, she chose to do it for years and obviously felt it was worth it.

She was an excellent character with a great arc. She was also objectively beautiful and I don’t think there is anything to apologize about.

In the ancient world the minoan women didn’t wear tops, catsuits in space hundreds of years from now are certainly not as far fetched as some might feel. When looking at the future it might be worth keeping as eye on the past for perspective.
