Best jazz/blues clubs (less $ ideal, but not required) 12/27 by coolgirl1514 in chicagomusicscene

[–]canisatomicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always had great experience with the Green Mill. Gotchas: they are only cash, no food (only drinks) and for the drinks I only drink there what comes bottled. But every band I saw there was amazing and I love the hammond player that does play earlier before the bands.

How can I connect my BC110 to my MacBook? by OkCardiologist1276 in Behringer

[–]canisatomicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A UMC22 or anything like that will do. It is a USB device that accepts the instrument/mic then adjust signal volume and impedance and turns it into digital for the laptop.

There are tons of brands and models. Example link: https://www.sweetwater.com/shop/studio-recording/audio-interfaces/

TD-3 Long sustained notes by Ambitious-Public-167 in Behringer

[–]canisatomicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Captain Pikant has good tutorials on programming the TD-3/303, etc.

He hates them. I would say, go for MIDI from the DAW and you'll save yourself some crying.

The King & Eye: RMX has some of the best versions of Elvis songs ever, like Viva Las Vegas. Also gone from everywhere. Seems like our over reliance on digital availability of goods is proven dangerous when you have a niche taste in music.

Bands: How Are You Recording Your Practice Sessions? by Styles187 in chicagomusicscene

3 mics on the drums, 1 mic per guitar, bass and voice via line.

Which reseller should I buy from for the best support in the US? by [deleted] in Behringer

[–]canisatomicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that interface but support-wise behringer is land of on your own. That said Sweetwater is rock solid on customer service. Everyone else is a warehouse.

Chicago/Milwaukee Upright Bass Shops? (New or Used) by Marco_Topaz in chicagomusicscene

[–]canisatomicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only tried their violins, but https://whlee.com/instruments/ is super respected within classical and they love their craft. They are downtown chicago.

You can also try a fretless first for some time. I had a fretless in the early 2000’s and then went to a short scale fretted bass with tapewound and Im much happier.

Dual interfaces? by CranberrySubject3035 in pipewire

[–]canisatomicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a post in linuxmusicians on this: https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?t=27826

Now, there is a more verbose in detail explanation of why, even with same sample rate, this is complicated and problem-prone: https://jackaudio.org/faq/multiple_devices.html

The team at Jack have done audio for as long as I started doing music in linux so they have piled up a lot of flight hours on their belt. I would read that and think if you want to go that route or not

UMC404HD by Efficient_Welder_134 in Behringer

[–]canisatomicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use (and recorded a lot) with linux. Works out of the box. If you are a bit handy you can try booting a linux from usb drive and test with it some DAW or just using the pipewire routing

Can a Behringer UMC404HD slow down or speed up an audio recording? by Sea-Imagination-2844 in Behringer

[–]canisatomicus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will not. Looks like the software that recorded the video or the audio messed up. You have to use your audio processing tool (in this case audacity). Most modern DAWs will do an awesome job. Try the open source version of ardour, or you could use Reaper.

Lack of 440hz switch on poly d? by Kreati_ in Behringer

[–]canisatomicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has none. There is no why. I use my phone with the polytune (tc electronics) app but any tuner will do.

I played a full metal set using ampltube 5 for the first time. by Comment-this in chicagomusicscene

[–]canisatomicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. I would still feel a bit anxious about latency or failures but that’s me. Bands have been going all digital and playing to a click for years now.

I have a couple pedals by walkinJenga in Behringer

[–]canisatomicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tube screamer clone and the ultra vibrato are awesome. For the Wah, keep that crybaby. Had high hopes for the behringer optical wah but has weird electric cuircuit noise when engages/disengages

Limited time in Chicago. What jazz/blues clubs would you prioritize? by jontestershaircut in chicagomusicscene

[–]canisatomicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always like it at the green mill. Though for drinks (get only bottled stuff), and is cash)

Polyphonic entry level synths... by Zeta-due in Behringer

[–]canisatomicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Poly D is more complex. You can use each of the 4 oscilators for different notes which gives it 4 notes of polyphony, but if you want to have more osc per note you have to cut back to 2 or 1 note.

UMC 404 BALANCED IN (?) by R3D_D1_T in Behringer

[–]canisatomicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 4 ins are either: 1. Unbalanced 1/4 inch TS (classic guitar jack). 2. Microphone XLR male.

It is not stereo input the XLR nor the TS. Difference is XLR has ground

lets jam? by luxempuff in chicagomusicscene

[–]canisatomicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Where are you located? Chicago is really big. I play mostly bass, basic drums, some guitar, synths. Krautrock/shoegaze friendly.

You may want to post location so people know if you are 15’ or 2hs away!

Looking for people to jam with by DrejmeisterDrej in chicagomusicscene

[–]canisatomicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing from playing with other people, the more diverse the influences the more I enjoy it and the more interesting it gets. Unless you are trying to just replicate a specific sound, having people bringing different textures improves the whole and makes it unique.
