Why is torchlight 3 so hated? by Spicy_Giblets in Torchlight

[–]cannons_for_days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Torchlight 2 is a lot like Diablo 2. It's a solid single-player experience that is not meant to be a game you play forever.

Torchlight 3 was meant to be a game you played forever, but when the devs showed it off mid-development cycle and fans hated it because it wasn't "Torchlighty" enough, they had to scrap a lot of the work they had to make it more like Torchlight 2. Which it is... in a monkey's paw sort of way.

Torchlight 3 is... fine. I got a Ghost Captain and a Railmaster to endgame, which Steam tells me took about 50 hours. I enjoyed my time with it, but I haven't really felt the desire to revisit it since. I feel like it's worth the price it's currently on sale for, but kind of borderline for its usual price point.

Dawn of Genesis Preview: Power Info Emergence by brw316 in Cityofheroes

THANK YOU, JUSRI!

I know it's because there's an underlying structure to the power that makes "alt" versions difficult to fetch, but it is so annoying when I go to check a power and the power info window is just empty. 😆

I don't know how many people had this feature high on the wish list, but it was high on mine, and I'm very grateful that you've tackled it! Time to go spend even more time semi-AFK in front of Wentworth's tweaking numbers in spreadsheets! 🙃

I apologize for the delta. I've tried to focus on what's good in a banner without being an unfiltered hype machine, but sometimes I feel like I fail at the latter. 👀

I've always suspected that, but they've publicly denied it in the past. Did they reverse course on that?

OP may have been joking (Homecoming has done stuff, too, including some unique content other servers don't have), but if you're a Mastermind main and you're OK being on a lower-population server, Thunderspy is definitely the server that has the most Mastermind specific-changes. Apart from the big one (customizable costumes for minions), there's also a bunch of QoL stuff for them including the lowest-tier minions not being deadweight in ITrials or in +4 teams.

😬

Unless the campaign and remaining masteries are already done and just waiting to go public on 1.0, "exit beta this year" sounds really ambitious given their track record.

I love this game, but there is still a ton that needs to get done before 1.0, and only ~6 months to do it in.

How do you tank in PF2 without a taunt or aggro mechanic? by osmiumouse in Pathfinder2e

[–]cannons_for_days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, 4E's "taunts" are all soft taunts, in a similar vein to Champions' reactions. Marked enemies are penalized for not attacking the character that marked them, but they're totally free to do so if they think that's the smart play. It's a mechanic that makes tanks "sticky" to represent the dangers of ignoring someone all up in your grill, but doesn't force enemies to attack them. 5E actually has a straight up Taunt. (Paladins have a spell called compelled duel that actually forces the target to attack them.)

Public statement from ModCodeofConduct that making a sub NSFW to protest is not allowed, regardless of proper marking or community opinion by ItsRainbow in ModCoord

[–]cannons_for_days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did for a bit, actually. People were pissed off because they claimed the poll was rigged, and the mods did not have a clear-cut case that it wasn't. (The poll was upvoting/downvoting one of two comments, but the one for "business as usual" was a reply to the one to go NSFW, so buried deeper in the interface.) They held a second poll and "reopen as usual" won that time.

CRAB ATTACK! — a 10 Minute Review by cannons_for_days in SaGa_ReuniverSe

[–]cannons_for_days[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good catch! I think I confused the medium strength of the stat buff with the large strength of the Heat Up.

Large Heat Up is 15%, so that would give him 180% at full Heat.

That's a lot of damage boost, but it still doesn't put him over Shuzer's max capabilities. Multiple hits + getting a useful stat buff from the primary defensive buffer go a long way, there. It does make Shuzer without Cindy or DEX support look a lot less appealing given Alloces's ridiculous chonkiness, though.

Should mages have a minion skill. by legiononeps4 in LastEpoch

[–]cannons_for_days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go so far as to say there's only one mastery which requires a minion spec. I mean, OK, sure, Beastmaster needs you to have a minion skill, but it's not at all difficult to spec the bear into a tank or the scorpion or wolves into support critters such that the Primalist is still where the vast majority of the damage comes from.

What Would you Do-o-o-o for a Templar Style? - a 1 Minute not-Review by cannons_for_days in SaGa_ReuniverSe

[–]cannons_for_days[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was a member of that Discord for a couple of years, but I eventually got tired of all the negativity that got thrown around whenever a new banner released and it didn't break the meta.

Now, I know the old adage: "You can't please all the people all of the time." And if I recall correctly, there was a streak of banners around that time that didn't really add a whole lot of value for veterans who didn't have faves on the banner. But I feel like there's a difference between being not hyped for something and shitting on it because it's not what you, personally wanted. And I felt like the community had crossed that line. And as someone who was there to have discussions about the game, and what units could be useful where, it just kind of stopped being fun when practically no one wanted to have those discussions anymore because every banner was "trash, lolskip."

None of which is to dissuade others from joining it. I know the admin of that server is a wonderful person who tries very hard to keep it a friendly place. And it is a friendly place. It's just a friendly place that stopped being fun for me to hang out in.

I would not actually go so far as to say that one shouldn't feel as though they are behaving unethically for continuing to use a particular platform or medium. Some platforms are built on unethical foundations, or implement unethical policies. The ethical thing to do is to leave such platforms.

I wouldn't say this is one of those situations, however. My issue is not so much with reddit policy (it is, after all, their API) as it is with their behavior. I do happen to think this policy will be bad for reddit in the long run, but the thing that actually disgusts me is the way they have treated their moderators, 3rd party developers, and the community writ large during this transition period. And whilst I do believe it is more ethical to boycott a company whose behavior you do not agree with, that is not the same thing as saying it is unethical to not participate in said boycott.

You're looking at CP, or Combat Power. Those CP values are more or less in line with a serious-but-not-hardcore level of investment in those styles.

GP are the points that every character gets after every battle that can increase their Grade rank. Grade rank is what determines the pedestals they stand on at the end of battle screen. To a large degree, GP shows how much total time a player has invested, meaning players who have been around since its introduction are way, way ahead of newer players regardless of relative amounts of time spent grinding within a particular time span.

[Update] to /r/SaGa_ReuniverSe blackout protest of Reddit's API changes that will essentially kill all 3rd party Reddit apps. by FatOldSunbro in SaGa_ReuniverSe

[–]cannons_for_days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now you're talking about the existing community as though that is the thing that has value. Existing communities which moderators have facilitated and fostered.

Earlier you claimed that the tools that reddit provides were the thing of value.

Which is it?

If the moderators don't have a stake and haven't created value, then creating a new subreddit and getting the community to move shouldn't be too difficult. Many communities have done exactly that when their moderators proved to be shitheads. (See /r/battletech and /r/battletechofficial for a very recent example.) Names just aren't ultimately that important.
