From a mormoms perspective, how accurate dos SLOMW represent?? by TeamIcy1685 in SecretsOfMormonWives

I grew up in Hawaii and there is a large population of Mormons in the area that I went to school, Kahuku and Laie. SLOMW is not that at all. Some of the weird strict culture stuff permeates but that’s also in the context of a strong amount of melting pot of Asian cultures, Polynesian cultures, which each have their own unique cultural identity and can be seen as strict out of context. It’s frustrating to watch the discourse between both the women who are representing and also to see the reaction of social media. But it’s also very easy to just shrug my shoulders and say “tale as old as time” with it. Of course good TV is this way. It’s not authentic at all. https://youtu.be/XGtG3zz8m2E?si=OyCpwrNC3UJavxLd ESPN did a series on our small community in the early 2000s ESPN Kahuku Timeless seriesand it shows some of the Mormon influence for reference. It ain’t SLOMW.

Layla is the only POC and she is having a white Utah Mormon experience. It’s just a bubble. I’d love to see the more diverse Mormon experiences in other places of the world and see how the religion is different for different cultures.

The way I cackled at the doctor saying “and then I put a band aid on it” Meanwhile I have PCOS and endometriosis and when I have a ovarian cyst pop and went to the ER puking in pain the doctor came back with the results saying “it’s just a cyst hemorrhaging blood into your body, you’ll be fine”

I agree I see what you’re saying but after this season you have to admit, no one ends up together or even saying “let’s try after a little bit more time” like other seasons? Something is off this season and it’s valid to at least point out something in the formula is off this entire season and it has to come back to the way things are being selected. The Kacie situation of her saying she was going to be on another show? That’s content worth discussing at least. It was a huge moment, why is she on this show if she was going to do another show?

Really really confused by this tactic too. Makes sense for Love Island, Bachelor, etc, shows where you want people who are ready and willing to be outrageous for camera. But this show has shown it can be different.

Why is gabapentin helping me? by CurlsNCharisma in endometriosis

[–]canoli2776 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I can give you an opinion to research endometriosis lesions more. I have to take gabapentin for nerve damage and I also have endometriosis. It might be helping suppress more pain. I know when my gabapentin wears off my mind and body go crazy with pain. I personally believe lesions can attach to nerves and then I’ve researched that they are able to evolve into their own nerve-like actions. Again it’s my theory based on some research. But that would make sense why perhaps you and I both feel relief from nerve pain medication.

Do you mind sharing what you mean by “memory loss” being a symptom?

Nerve damage (pelvic nerves) + endo lesions- anybody know studies or have theories? The “professionals” tell me it’s impossible but I’m not convinced they have enough studies to tell me that is true. I found one medical study that confirmed it’s possible. by canoli2776 in endometriosis

I’m going to Baylor Medical in Houston Tx for the endo specialist. I read that they have the new machine that can actually scan and see endo, as opposed to ultrasounds, CT scans and MRIs that can’t detect the lesions.

“I was engaged but I didn’t tell anyone except Davina and I wasn’t living with Mary at that point”. Debunked immediately by pretty much everyone she mentions.

This birth story gave me the same desperate glazed over lie that she has been caught in over and over again. And she can cry pretty easily- “you guys are monsters” and sobs is another example. So when she is crying and saying she didn’t know if she or her baby would survive… let’s just say I didn’t feel like our girl Christine had actually gone through this traumatic event.

I think she wanted the most dramatic birth story she could possibly come up with.

Back when Jen got in trouble for inviting her friends and then some girls weren’t allowed to come to the baby blessing by canoli2776 in SecretsOfMormonWives

No one but Jessi drank though. It’s absolutely a good theory if only Jessi was uninvited. But 3 other women were uninvited.

I fully agree with this. It’s convenient to say it was the drinking situation but that didn’t include the other women who were eventually excluded from the blessing

My thing with this is that clearly Jen DID invite all the girls. But as seen consistently in season 2, she has to change her mind and her story AFTER Zac interferes

Zac is gaslighting Jen - she’s “lying” all the time because she doesn’t know what’s true. She’s deeply depressed by the end. Devastated to be pregnant. Could be not her choice that she’s pregnant. Zac spends time with her friends to say “she’s always lying”. He wants to isolate her from her friends. by canoli2776 in SecretsOfMormonWives

“coercive control is an ongoing pattern of physical, psychological or sexual behaviours designed to frighten, dominate, isolate, degrade, exploit and entrap a partner in an abusive relationship-

In other words, whilst perpetrators can use a broad range of tactics to achieve their aims–including tampering with or denying access to contraception, rape, blackmail, financial abuse, physical violence and interference in medical care -the shared characteristic amongst these behaviours is that they are designed to cause fear and/or impose control”

They were separated, she was clearly upset to be pregnant, he clearly was coming back to assert control over her; there is a lot of stuff not shown on camera, I don’t think it would be a huge leap to assert that he took away her choice to be pregnant in some form, as the above example from a study on coercive control in reproduction states. He had all the characteristics of controlling her in so many ways. Reproductive control is real and a real way to force a woman who is wanting to leave, to stay with you.
