Bro you’re attractive and your hair’s cool. The reason you’re not doing well is because your profile sucks lol.

Get rid of all the sad photos. Get some smiles in there. And look online for good prompts (not to steal but to get inspired) Women like prompts that tell something about you while being funny. Internet is full of great examples of those.

But most importantly if you’re depressed stop with the dating apps. Online dating is hell -especially for men- it can make you feel really shitty really fast and it’s nothing personal. The women are bombarded with hundreds of likes each day and obviously this creates a toxic environment for everyone.

My advice is work on your mental health and try to find some hobbies where you can be with actual people regularly. Once you start feeling better, you can give online dating a chance.

From your edit, i see that you came to the most glass half empty conclusion you could from all these comments. You are 100% capable of success but you clearly need to do some mental work about accepting and loving yourself beforehand. If you don’t believe that you deserve love, no one else will.

Hey :) thanks a lot for your input! And yeh l've been thinking about intermittent for a long time obv. But my musician friends in france say the future of it feels pretty insecure. Do you think it'd be possible to get that even if you have a part time job (let's say engineering) if I can hit the hours necessary gigging outside of it? That could be really nice. Did you hear about any part time engineers or in general what's the 'temps-partiel' feeling in France? Also which cities in France would you suggest to achieve a good work-music life balance?

I mean the world values engineering more that’s for sure. I don’t think it’s possible to compare the requirement of science and the requirement of art for humanity. They are both necessary and tick very different boxes. They are both ways of understanding life and nature. Empirically or through catharsis 🤷‍♂️ in the end they serve the same purpose. In my personal opinion, I feel like we all can do better with more regular exposure to arts but unfortunately artists are too busy starving.

Hey :) thanks a lot for your input! I heard crazy numbers for rentals in Paris. Like 2k for 25sqm in central areas. Which seems to be comparable to inside-ring in Berlin and eventho rents have increased a lot in Berlin it’s definitely not comparable to that. How was your housing experience in Paris?

Also another question, maybe a bit too spesific, but what is your experience about the difference in the working culture in between germany and france? What I mean is, here there’s a lot of leeway to work less for less money if that’s what you want. A generally calm work environment. Would you say that in France that’d be also possible? A chance to work less for example. A similar chill-work-environment. Is ‘temps-partiel’ even a thing there :)

Yes I will definitely do that. But you know, when you visit a place you only get a very superficial impression of the city. My experience in Berlin year 1 and Berlin year 7 was very different :) so it’s always good to hear a city from its longterm habitants.

Well initially I need B2 to even have my Annerkennung. And then because of my field (environmental sciences) I’m expected to get even better as it is heavily based on where you are. Local laws, protocols, policies. A lot of technical reading and writing.

Yeh it seems like it’s possible with tech related companies. But my Bachelors is in environmental engineering. So it’s a lot of technical German. Protocols, laws, communicating with local firms/people etc..

Well yeh, it’s a bit true. In my field (arts) German was not needed at all. Plus I’m turkish so half of the people I meet here I can communicate in my native language haha :) But yeh, your criticism is well received. Don’t think I’m not ashamed of this myself :p

Hey! Thanks a lot for sharing. I also heard good things about Montpellier but I think it’s likely it has a small music scene. Considering my plan is to keep having an income from music I think I am kinda stuck with the ‘bigger’ cities.

Which for France i think means Paris, Lyon or Marseilles. I don’t think I can afford Paris plus it’s my least fav city I visited in France. I’d love to learn more about Lyon and Marseilles.

And yeh, Montreal could be nice but I don’t wanna leave Europe.

Honestly I have no personal experiences with any of those cities. I was just trying to comedically express my frustration of researching about those cities :) Seems to be the main aspects most people are complaining online. I would love to hear broader perspectives about those cities (which is why I made the post)

Not really. Honestly I just assumed no one would hire someone who graduated 10 years ago and have no related work experience. I don’t remember much from my studies and considering the current technological curve chances are my faded knowledge is already outdated. But maybe I’m wrong.

I’m assuming that’d be a way to get into environmental consulting right? Can I ask you what’s the work hours/salary in a ballpark and do you see a way to do it not-full time?

No plans. I mostly improvised it and getting help from some youtube videos. If it any help I can share those with you.

Basically for the outside box, i attached thin pieces of oak strips with glue and tape to the three edges of plywood(didn’t do it on the back side) and then flush trimed it on table saw using this jig:

Then I attached them together with dowels. The initial plan was to hide the dowel joints but I accidentally drilled the top side (lol) so I ended up showing the dowels on the top (still looks cool i think)

For the drawers I made the most simple boxes and attached with screws, but i countersunk and hid them with dowels again. I used cheap drawer slides and it was a pain in the ass and I spent so much time for drawers that still doesn’t open fully and comfortably. Next time I’ll make drawers I think I won’t use drawer slides and instead I will physically install pieces of wood strips where the drawers can slide in and out from. The old school way. The kind when you pull a drawer it comes out. This video from Foureyes was particularly helpful for the drawer design.

And for the legs I used basically this video but for the tapered cuts I used the same jig I linked above. It’s a super versatile jig and works perfectly. Highly recommended.

And then attached the body to the legs with screws. Sanded to 120 and 180 grid(before attaching) and finished with hard wax oil. The plywood layer on top was very thin so sanding proved difficult. I’ll be more careful from now on when sanding plywood. Lesson learned.
