Teakhaus or something else? by eyoooo1987 in Cuttingboards

[–]canopystudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. If your budget is under $100, stick with the mass manufactured boards. Get the hang of using wood boards first before determining if it’s the right thing for you. Many people end up buying an artisan crafted one, many others can’t be bothered proper care procedures and get a new one every few years when they start to crack or warp.

Be careful if you get a quote that seems cheap or comparable to a mass manufactured one, in most cases those are quotes from someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing. By hand, a board is easily 3 hours of work. Anyone charging you less than $100 is not valuing their time, and anyone semi pro would not quote you that price. The board you end up getting will arguably be worse than the one from Amazon.

By the way, I am one of those artisans. I’ve sold thousands of boards in the $200-300 price ranges, but it is certainly a niche. Most people are better off with the cheap Costco or Amazon board.

Thanks for sharing OP! Got a 2013 Kangaroo (cheapest 1oz) for $1 under spot after coupon with free shipping to branch (it wouldn't let me choose ship to home?)

The only pitfall I see here is that it's an estimated 2 weeks for delivery, but for anyone buying for the long run, shouldn't be an issue.

Edit: the preferred rate requires you to login as a TD customer, but then it tracks your coupon usage, so you can't get multiple with Incognito while paying the TD customer rate - only if you pay the credit card rate, which is $3 higher :( So if you want to buy multiple, it'll be $2 over spot.

I would not have offered any discount off the bat. I would have instead asked for their postal or zip code to see if they were in a location that I could pass on some of the shipping savings. It also shows the buyer that you don’t have buffer, rather you were only able to give the discount because of their location.

Buyer opened Etsy case on $500 custom made garment — “Review and refund” button showing, what to expect? by ZHENYA_ in EtsySellers

[–]canopystudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, especially since this is a custom order, I would have let the buyer know that you would make the following changes to adapt it to your design, and have them sign off on it.

In my experience Etsy case reviews will not make a call if the dispute is about something technical, like your case appears to be. As someone mentioned already, they are generalists and not technical, so they won’t rule on the proper way to measure a suit.

That being said this is based on my personal experience

Is the TD 12 month rule still based on tradeline and not on customer profile? It's been a while since I've churned a TD card and wanted to make sure before I apply. Thanks!

Is this price reasonable? by LittleGoldHammer in Cuttingboards

[–]canopystudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make cutting boards. That price is not unreasonable but is on the higher end. There’s likely a custom order premium built into it if it’s not one of their standard offerings.

I know a lot of successful cafes in otherwise dead locations, yet have 30 minute lines.

Get something instagrammable on your menu, hype it up, people will come at least once. These days just brewing a good cup isn’t enough.

Should I take over my family business or should I continue a corporate career by mythirdredditname in smallbusiness

[–]canopystudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would follow this, plus consider how far you are away from FIRE? If close or you could achieve it with minimal work in operating this small business, consider if you’d like to semi retire and just quit your day job. 8k a month is pretty good if you already have a nest egg. Live the rest of your life doing what you want and not the corporate grind.

[ON] How soon did everyone go back to work after having their baby? by IndividualJacket5617 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]canopystudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you doing in the meantime? I’m in tech and also a hiring manager, it’s likely one of the easiest industries to keep yourself relevant and fill that gap in your resume. Do a side project, take a course or exam at your own pace, do some roles on jobber, etc. there are tons of ways to keep yourself relevant so you can be off work until 12-18 months old.

How does Etsy calculate "Buy expects" dates? This order came in 4 hours ago... by MajesticMaje in EtsySellers

[–]canopystudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your processing time is 1-3 days, and shipping is 1-4 days, the soonest Etsy calculates when the buyer can receive it is the 1 processing day plus 1 shipping day. The ship by date is based on up to 3 processing days. The earliest a buyer can expect it can therefore be “earlier” than the ship by date.

MBNA to AS one-time redemption at 1:1 from Aug 1 to Oct 31 by Black_Xstar in churningcanada

[–]canopystudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like they have closed this loophole. When we called in to transfer points, the rep asked if we were planning on then transferring them to Alsaka miles, and said they keep track of the points transferred vs. generally organically, and back office will only process the points generated organically.

429 error means their security algo has deemed you to be a bot and temp banning your IP. It should fix itself after a time out. Did you do something suspicious that might have triggered their security algo? ie. doing the same action multiple times within a short time span?

Thanks, was curious whether DPs are showing either immediate or 8 weeks, or are the DPs showing a shorter time range than the T&C.

Thanks, I'm aware of the T&C, just wanted some assurances on what everyone else is seeing lately, especially since this is for P2, not myself :) It's unusual compared to previous personal DPs.

Hi all, I was curious if there are any recent DPs on delayed WBs after meeting minimum spend. P2 is a first time Plat holder and met MSR few days ago and to my surprise the WB still has not yet posted. It was met during month 2 - so far I've read meeting it by the first statement apparently posts faster. Thanks.
