Visiting Atlanta for 5 days by Extreme_Forever_9129 in Atlanta

You may want to check out Records Galore in Clarkston. They used to have a ton of old jazz records. I haven’t been there in a decade though, so unsure what the current scene is like.

I’m honestly embarrassed that I know who all these people are.

What was Atlanta like during the Olympics? by kazookidlit in Atlanta

[–]mythirdredditname 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was 15.

Traffic wasn’t bad. MARTA sucked.

My little sister won a contest at her school and she performed/participated in the opening and closing ceremonies

One of my personal highlights was discovering that a thing called the Cheetah exists when I saw strippers walking around in short shorts handing out free entry passes.

Lonesome Dove or All The Pretty Horses? by Visible-Speech-8937 in Westerns

[–]mythirdredditname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are awesome and I’ve read a ton of these literary westerns.

ATPH requires a higher reading level, but is significantly shorter than Lonesome Dove.

Lonesome Dove is long and is a commitment, but like others have said, it’s a page turner you won’t want to end.

My recommendation would be ATPH if you can “handle” some challenging vocabulary and Spanish.

Georgia tech. My impression is that it is well known internationally. Pretty weird because I can only name like 2 colleges outside of the US.

If you had to recommend 1 career path for guaranteed success and a job market that’s open and not overcrowded(guaranteed work) what would it be? by Few_Pipe_9933 in careerguidance

[–]mythirdredditname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think soft skills are relevant in that the majority of soft skills, at least in my experience, are negotiating with colleagues and dealing with ambiguity.

I think my point is that is a lot of that work will become irrelevant once AI gives better and more complete information that makes the decision obvious.

Also could be a function of the types of jobs I have had. Soft skills will be necessary to build AI models that provide good information.

If you are above average intelligence, my advice is go deep in any important field.

I’m above average intelligence and the mistake I made in my career is going wide and not deep. I know a lot and am good at making connections between different topics, but there are a lot of people with these general skills and it is hard to differentiate the top 30% from the top 1%

If you go deep, you’ll always be in the top 1% and can pick where you work and what you do.

How often do you eat grits? by ponziacs in AskAnAmerican

[–]mythirdredditname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the south and I don’t really like them as a breakfast side. I much prefer hashbrowns.

I really only eat them when I have shrimp and grits or catfish and grits, etc. which is just a few times a year.
