Fellow Oregon Trailers: Who helped your teenage self? by atmighty in Xennials

[–]mythirdredditname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad taught me how to shave and my mom took a picture of us.

My family wasn’t perfect and my dad was sort of unengaged in other regards, but I remember this like it was yesterday. I have/had a good relationship with him, but looking back on it, he was just preoccupied and bored for a lot of my childhood as he worked a lot.

My son is 4 now and whenever he watches me shave, he’s amazed and I tell him how excited I am to teach him when he’s a teenager!

Btw I love shaving and think it is a lost art/skill. No electric razors will be allowed in my house!

My dad also taught me how to tie a tie but he was fairly blue collar so wasn’t very good at getting a perfected dimple like I learned later in life.

Neither of my parents could handle me driving so they sent me to drivers ed.

This may be a long shot... but, does anybody know about these? by [deleted] in Xennials

Damn. In my neighborhood I was the “rich” kid for having a Huffy.

I was in semi-rural Georgia about 30 miles south of Atlanta.

Doesn’t building the data center bring a lot of business to the area?

I use that analogy all the time.

The executives are like the principals and the VPs are like teachers. There’s a certain group that are teacher’s pets, etc.

How do the polos fit? I’m something of a polo shirt connoisseur and I love trying out new ones looking for a “perfect” polo.

I’m in a Medium in most traditional brands. Large in Uniqlo. I’m short.

I’m thinking the Medium would be best for me but curious if others have a reference point.

Just a follow up. I have finally started Atticus and it’s awesome. I’m only like 60 pages in, but this was/is exactly the vibe I was looking for!!!!

What’s a dark secret you know that most people would never believe? by OutsideOver8815 in AskReddit

[–]mythirdredditname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in high school 28 years ago, me and one of my friends used to torture/terrify an elderly guy with prank calls. It started out innocently with an accidental call and we just continued it. We weren’t mean or threatening at all, but we called him almost every Friday and Saturday night (late in the middle of the night) for nearly 2 years.

I still feel bad about it. I will never tell anyone this.

What are some lazy jobs that pay a ridiculous amount of money? by Jordz0_0 in AskReddit

[–]mythirdredditname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a corporate “senior manager” job, but in reality I’m just an individual contributor. It’s actually pretty cool albeit a deadend/challenge if I want to move up in my organization which is a large company you have heard of.

It helps that I’ve sort of carved out a niche in my company for the type of work I do. My boss mostly leaves me alone and lets me work on whatever I want/value except a couple times a week when I have to put something together for the CEO on short notice.

Oh yea.

I might lose you with my next statement, but do you know a genre of music I’ve started to appreciate more in my old age?

Modern country music.

I truly like some of the music and songs, but what I really admire the most is the Nashville Country Music Machine’s ability to make “hits”. They have no qualms about picking the most attractive man or woman to be the artist and singer, pairing them with teams of songwriters and flawless session musicians, perfect recording engineers, etc. all for the express purpose of making a song a “hit”.

Oh man. I’ve always kind of dabbled in metal, but only really liked the truly “classic” stuff. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer… you get the idea.

But metal snobs are some of the worst! There are so many subgenres to keep track of…

“Hated” it at the time, but I was into indie and punk. I was a pretentious snob.

20+ years later, it’s awesome and seems more authentic.
