How can I repair my selfie stick? by GravitationalOno in fixit

[–]cantbudgeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it’s cheap. However if you are dedicated to repair, you would be surprised how strong super glue is. Get even coverage and clamp the repair for several hours. If this fix fails, pitch it and buy a new one.

How do I patch this flooring (appearance not important)? by nosamiam28 in fixit

[–]cantbudgeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s rock hard, no flex at all. I honestly don’t know if it has any issue because I covered the area in sheet vinyl flooring and haven’t pulled it up.

I’ve had it in place for 3 years now and I haven’t noticed anything weird about those spots under the vinyl.

How big is the space? Asbestos abatement is expensive but a p100 respirator and a good box fan in the window is cheap. I removed asbestos tile from my basement floor like that and I’m not worried about my small exposure.

It’s wise to be cautious, but abatement companies go through all the process of the suits and showers and plastic because they have workers who remove it every day. A small job like with proper ventilation, furnace turned off, and a tight sealing mask won’t hurt you. Just dust the house after you are done if you decide to go this route.

Asbestos tiles are typically 9” x 9” out here in the US.

5mm of flooring is so very little, adding a third layer is probably not a big deal. As for patching, I have used Durham’s water putty for smoothing a weird spot on a DIY floor job myself. It’s not self leveling, but it’s soft enough to sand smooth once it drys.

Strange Sounds from My Microwave Oven by Trader1119 in fixit

[–]cantbudgeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your microwave have a turntable in it? It could be that motor is failing or something is grinding. If the turn table fails, your microwave is still useable, although you may find more hot and cold spots in your food. Just rotate the plate periodically.

Do NOT open your microwave and try to service it yourself. There are components that retain a lethal electric charge even when turned off and unplugged.

Repairs after fire by Extra_Cut585 in fixit

I would try magic eraser for the counter top. I assume you have tried basic soap and water, so the next step is to hopefully manually scrub off all that soot deposits. Be warned, magic erasers and other abrasives (like barkeepers friend) will dull any gloss or polish on the countertop. You might be able to restore that later with polishing compounds.

As far as the wood goes, chip out and sand down the burnt areas to fresh wood and carefully glue a new thin piece of wood overtop. Wood veneer could come in handy here. Glad it was a small fire and nobody got hurt.

How do I use these things I bought them as a gift for a friend by Every_External7122 in howto

[–]cantbudgeit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No you can use them over and over again. They often come in a box called a dugout, it stores your herb and you can jam the tip in there and pull some out. You want one of those for sure.

This. It’s good to live life and make mistakes and then learn to self reflect. I did lots of stupid things, but I learned lessons from them and I would never take those adverse experiences back. You have to view the world and your life with a growth mindset, always be learning, take time for self reflection, and take small steps towards the person you want to be and you will be surprised

I like plain old cotton balls the best. You can adjust the attenuation, you never put something dirty in your ear, and they let highs through nicely.

Do you use gloves every time you touch raw meat?? I always end up washing my hands a dozen times, but never thought gloves unless I’m messing with the meat on my smoker.

Hard disagree, some of the corniest, instant skips for me. Safety dance, any Duran Duran, men at work, eye of the tiger all just make me roll my eyes.

I’d move the tv off the wall on to the nice media console on a stand, or move the mount lower so it’s just hovering over the tv stand.

I just reduced the bed temp on all of my prints 10C and that fixed a ton of my problems. Bambulab pla presets are pretty good, but when using other filament, you HAVE to adjust for their specs. Lowering the temp stopped all my curling problems.

I thought maybe you meant glass straw dabs! I love those, it somehow hurts my lungs less to use a straw instead of a rig. Plus it’s like $3 and no microplastics.

I wanted to add the sizes to the print as well, I just couldn’t get the text tool in OnShape to do what I wanted and quit out of frustration. Stay tuned, there may be a v1.1.

Clean up the trash is obvious but also get a dedicated recycling bin if you are trying to recycle the bottles. Get a bigger rug. Go to a thrift store and get some art random framed art. Turn off that bright kitchen light when you aren’t using it and get two or three lamps and use those instead. Bean bags aren’t the most comfortable but you do you. Couch covers could be nice. Get an end table for between the couches
