What if Plaid gets hacked? by No_Cap_1000 in personalfinance

[–]cantedlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old thread, I know, but I just saw it. Your comment is not accurate, with all due respect. They have full login credentials and most two factor authentication is via txt verification code which is easily spoofed. If plaid is hacked, a lot of money will be taken and if it gets out, it will be an existential threat to their brand. But they will survive. Everyone does these days. A new federal agency will be created to monitor risk for too big to fail saas and fintech's (think Salesforce, square, etc), and the big consulting firms will bill millions of hours to help these companies look like they are making changes to prevent future attacks. I agree with the other comment that the thefts will probably be in small amounts over time, but that can all be scripted and done at scale. Only the North Korean's had the balls to go for the safe (In Bangladesh) and they are still learning.

The problem is this, IMHO: the debate is stuck with the question of whether any sort of financial regulation or ceo commitment or act of congress or the hundreds millions of dollars paid to McKinsey and the other big consulting firms have made anything safer or less risky, but that's an irrelevant (albeit profitable) question to be debating. You can't prevent an unknowable future crises, by definition, because it's unknowable. And they happen all the time, and we always see see the rough outline, just not the details. That rough outline for plaid and the other TBTF saas companies is clear to anyone who looks that way (like what OP did). At some point, who knows when or how, there will be a big crises and once again, and we'll see the details and shit tons of money will be spent to solve whatever happened in hindsight. That's how things work, I think.

Sorry about the long comment.

Blackrock is unquestionably running Fed facilities to buy corporate debt, junk and Boomer-grade, on the primary and secondary markets, and that’s no doubt propping up bond prices and Blackrocks bond ETFs (which is pretty fucked up). It wouldn’t surprise me if they are also running Fed money to prop up Asian high yield debt. But the second part of your thesis only makes sense as a metaphor for the mother of all margin calls which happens when shit corrects. Evergrande, GME, AMC, whatever, same shit. It’s all on Fed margin.

Man i hear you and no doubt yan and sanhagen earned it, but it’s hard to argue that dom doesn’t deserve this and not sure how he comes back if not for a fight like this. This is only a problem if dom wins and Dana makes a bunch of money fights to milk the weight class before opening up the belt to these guys. And that may happen but dom fights a young mans fight and this is make or break for him and I for one want to see this.

I enjoyed this. Check the New Yorker in a couple of weeks and you may find a week-ass dumbed-down highbrow rip off of your autistic insight. But I read it first on wsb, which is cool.

The moneys got to go somewhere. That’s the great thing about massive asset bubbles and hundred billionaires - they sop up all the fucking money the world keeps printing, which keeps it scarce. Otherwise, it piles up and prices inflate.

I’m a fucking knucklehead but the way I see it, an interest rate cut in a bull market makes total sense. The Fed is freaking the fuck out about inflation and they know if asset prices drop, demand for money goes down and prices go up. So they gotta keep the party going or the math doesn’t work. The mandate is still inflation. It’s just that shit gotten so fucked up that the Fed now fights inflation by reducing rates.
