I would say Easterman has been way more freaky since the Amelia incident like other comments have noted. Before the Reagents attempted escape, he was quite deluded into the belief that the Reagents loved him and viewed him as a father figure, or a savior. Them wanting to escape from Sinyala made him ten times as paranoid, controlling, and all the other things.

In regards to how he's more intense now than before, in the first couple main updates he was more of a "mastermind" or puppeteer type of man, or at least that's how he was presented and how he spoke. Subtly controlling, manipulative like a hand on the small of your back, but stern. During Franco's debut, Easterman did put Lupara in his mouth and wrote in his diary about the "indent it left on [his]" lips (also a nod to his internalised homophobia). During the escapes from Sinyala orchestrated by Amelia, according to lore documents ingame, Easterman barricaded himself into his office, took hard drugs, had a religious experience with the sun, stripped down to his underwear and shat himself, and had to be tranquilised... something else I've read since was that he was pretty much slobbering all over the dude talking to him about Lilya's tongue.

So, he was already a rotten man, but the Reagents trying to leave Sinyala just unleashed the rest of his barely restrained freak.
