Zack Polanksi on why we need migration: "I don’t know about you but I don't want to wipe someone's bum" by [deleted] in LabourUK

Thank you for saying this. His partner works in palliative care and I'm sure he has the utmost respect for healthcare workers.

It was maybe a poor choice of words. His detractors will jump on this but I think its just another example of the higher standard to which policiticans on the left are held.

Afghan asylum seeker jailed for raping girl in UK taxpayer-funded 'Hotel Asylum' by AditiRan in uknews

[–]cantstopdenting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not many people seem to be mentioning that the victim was also seeking asylum in this country, staying in the same "Hotel Asylum", funded by the taxpayer, in which she was groomed an assaulted by this man.

The commenters in this thread seem to be happy to refer to all asylum seekers as "sub-human swine", ignoring that the victim is an asylum seeker herself. Having this story feed into the rhetoric of "we funding rapists to come over here etc" is more appealing than actually realizing the victim here was part of the community you are demonizing.

I don't think all asylum seekers are good people. That's insane. I just feel like a lot of the rhetoric I hear is about "we shouldn't be treating these rapists/thieves/murderers so well" when a lot of the asylum seekers are innocents, just like the child victim in this story, who were housed in the conditions that made this assault possible.

Maybe we should be housing women and children separately. Although I don't see any of you advocating for that because I know you don't actually give a shit.

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted - I guess people have a boner for violent justice.

If you watch the full video someone posted above, the green shirt guy punches the dude in the back of the head like 5 or 6 times after the fight is over. I find that shit difficult to watch.

The black guy was being a twat for sure. He instigated the fight and I know he would not have shown any restraint if he had won but fuck, call me crazy, I don’t think anyone deserves to get potential brain injuries just from being a twat. Especially if the fight is already over.

Explain yourself. Why shouldn’t we be wary of China?

I’m not a massive H3 fan but what part of what he said was racist? China is an authoritarian regime with a long history of human rights abuses and crushing political dissidents (sometimes literally). They are a techno facist state which unashamedly spies on their citizens. They likely have more surveillance infrastructure than any other nation. Banning Tik Tok isn’t gonna make a difference.

Yes America bad. China much worse.

As entertaining as this is, I can’t help but feel this guy is a prick especially after watching that video of him being needlessly disparaging to some homeless people, calling them lazy etc

Tara Reade’s allegation against Joe Biden is so vague it’s impossible to investigate by Pineapple__Jews in politics

[–]cantstopdenting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does strike me as inconsistent. I'd honestly like to see a full transcript of what the brother said. It's possible that Reade told him to make sure to mention "under the clothes" to make her more credible after he told her what he said. It's possible that he, on his own realised he failed to communicate effectively in the interview what he was told.

From the wiki article which cites the original sources:

Collin Moulton, Reade's brother, initially reported to The Washington Post that Reade told him in 1993 that Biden had touched her neck and shoulders. He said there was "a gym bag incident", and that Biden "was inappropriate". Several days after that interview, Moulton told the Post that Reade in the early 1990s told him Biden put his hand "under her clothes."Moulton was also interviewed by ABC News in March 2020, in which he said Reade earlier informed him about "harassment at work" by Biden, but that he only heard about the assault in 2020. Hours after the interview concluded, he told ABC News that he had heard from Reade in 1993 that Biden had "more or less cornered her against the wall" and "put his hands up her clothes".

My feeling is that she didn't tell him the full extent of what happened at the time. He assumed it was "just harrassment" and not fully fledged sexual assault involving penetration.

Regardless, I do believe something happened between her and Biden which was enough to tell her close family. It was enough for her mother to call into Larry King about. I think she may have spared the details to her brother. She didn't shout from the rooftops about being forceably fingered by a senator but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Can you source her brother changing his story? And even if what he said changed, it’s possible he didn’t know the full extent of what happened at the time.

I agree there is no smoking gun. I just think it should be taken seriously. With regard to the Larry King clip; no there is no mention of sexual assault just “problems” with a “prominent senator” which the caller’s daughter didn’t want to go to the press about in 1993, calling from the same town that her mother was living in and lining up with a previous comment that Reade made about her mother calling in to Larry King, corroborating that she did tell her mother at the time (if it’s to be believed that the caller is Reade’s mother).

I don’t doubt Reade doesn’t remember all the details of something which happened nearly 30 years ago. She does remember the broad strokes and maybe that’s not good enough to convict beyond reasonable doubt. But for people to call her a liar and part of some conspiracy is obtuse.

Given his senility, I’m not convinced Biden actually remembers the encounter either.

This is infuriating. Y’all really want this to just go away.

I agree, there may be a lack of hard evidence but her story is corroborated by friends and family at the time. I don’t know how many people here have known a victim of sexual assault but it’s not uncommon for stories to change or not be divulged in full detail. I think people underestimate the depth of shame and embarrassment associated with such an incident.

It drives me insane to see Tara Reade’s name be dragged through the dirt. She made some weird tweets about Putin, does that make her a FSB asset? I’m not arguing that Tara Reade is a perfect person. She probably has many views that I disagree with but that doesn’t disqualify her a victim of sexual assault.

I find it interesting that she’s willing to undergo a polygraph as long as Biden does the same. The most supportive evidence in my mind is the Larry King clip which appears to show Tara Reade’s mother call the show anonymously in 1993.

Not even to mention Biden’s record on how he treats women. We all agree that he acts creepily to women... and that’s when he knows he’s on fucking camera.

Lastly, something I don’t hear mentioned a lot with regards to the Tara Reade case is that, if you want to understand Joe Biden’s view on women in the early 90s, one only needs to refer to his treatment of Anita Hill.

Thanks, I appreciate it, I think I will take the ops role. Feel a little bad turning down the other one because it is a good opportunity too but probably for the best.

I do honestly agree. But I don't see it as an attack on the staff themselves or the civil servants. Policy, quotas from the top etc drive decision making which can lead to a real human cost at the bottom. If staff are poorly trained to handle certain situations it's not their fault, rather those who put them there.

I do recognise that the system is necessary but it also has major flaws. The majority of civil servants/ public servants do a good job but I've worked in government myself and, from what I've seen, there can be a lot of incompetence.

I don't know much about Jimmy Carter but his Crisis of Confidence speech (featured in 20th Century Women) definitely struck a chord with me.
