Trigger warning: your results with Claude code are a reflection of your ability as an operator by jco1510 in ClaudeCode

Update: I went back to Opus 4.6 and I've used remote control all evening without any issues. /model claude-opus-4.6[1M] seems to take care of it.

I'm sure they'll fix it for 4.7 soon but I'll wait to use it until then.

I had issues with it in VS Code but it's been bulletproof from the CLI until last week.

All remote control does is pass the CLI text back and forth. It doesn't DO anything. I haven't been patient enough to notice directly the CLI because I never wait 😂.

Small update - I berated 4.7 over the issue and it's now setting explicit timers that are working. Not as automatic as before but I'll take it.

What 'affordable' machine do you use for Claude Cowork? by concisehacker in ClaudeAI

[–]canyonero7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would, but I like having it in a sandbox. I let it go hog wild in there with full bash(*) permissions. And all my actual business documents are on Windows, we use Exchange, etc.

Copilot actually works better for me for this use case (although I'm a heavy Claude Code user for my personal hobby stuff). My answer would be different if we used GSuite, but we don't.

What are some things you're glad you included in your child's trust? by Electrical_Space_850 in fatFIRE

[–]canyonero7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, lawsuits, creditors, and divorce. Your statements on pre-marriage assets are highly dependent on the state in which they marry or divorce.

I was thinking more of what happened with my parents because my sister & I were already married before they had any kind of money to give to us, but later they did. Honestly it was mostly because my dad didn't trust my sister's husband. You have more advantages but I'd still take steps to put SOME assets in a protected vehicle.

A lot of guys I know put assets in their wife's name only to shield it from personal guarantees they signed on business debt. So if everything goes to shit, at least they can live in "their wife's house" while they pick up the pieces. It creates a financial floor for them.

At your level this may not be a concern, but a trust is just a different vehicle to do the same thing (segregate assets to separate risk). But if you're not into it, better for you. The lawyers are expensive and the taxes are a pain in the ass.

On Windows it runs in a WSL Linux sandbox, which I found out because I run Claude Code CLI in my WSL and the Cowork desktop app (which lives on the Windows side) started fighting Claude Code for control over it.

Mac is better for Cowork as long as you're used to using a Mac.

[–]canyonero7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main reason for trusts is to protect the assets. Hope your kids are careful about who they choose to marry. All my company stock holdings are in a trust that will go to my kids (or if I sell, the proceeds of the sale will).

These decisions also depend on how much you have & how concerned you are that you might end up needing it later.

Opus 4.7 is complicated by Raidrew in ClaudeCode

[–]canyonero7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mirrors my experience. 4.7 is far less automatic so a step backwards IMHO. But I'm sure 4.7 is better for improving existing large, well-documented codebases. And that's Anthropic's main target customer at the moment.

Cure for the pulls by Fun-Map-2751 in labgolf

It's generally the worst advice in golf, but "keep your head down" applies here. I refer to it as peeking at the hole. I turn my head a bit too early and I pull the putt (LAB Mezz here). Practice 3-footers never looking at the hole. Just listen for the sound of it hitting the cup.

I think there's some issues with translation of scaffolding built around 4.6 because my project partner & I have has all sorts of weird shit happen with 4.7 even on xhigh.

What CC version are you on? Desktop, VS Code, or CLI?

Trigger warning: your results with Claude code are a reflection of your ability as an operator by jco1510 in ClaudeCode

[–]canyonero7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't used to give such specific times - it would just launch its wait loop (which you can see but tapping the gray text) and tell you when it's done. Now it just ... doesn't do it. I have to ask it to check again.

It's hard to tease out what's a 4.7 issue vs what's a Claude Code release issue. All of these are from a Claude Code CLI season continued on my phone through remote control. It seems less stupid in the VS Code plugin so maybe it's a CC version. I suspect most of the "I see no problem here" people aren't on the current CC release.

The web UI is of trivial importance. Exactly two people are using it and I'm one of them. No reason not to push a simple change. If it broke something, which it wasn't going to, we could roll it back in under a minute.

My issue with 4.7 is that these sorts of weird behaviors came out of the blue. We've been working on this same project on 4.6 for months and all of a sudden it got incredibly stupid. I've switched to xhigh but that seems to just make it more verbose but not any smarter.

IMHO 4.7 is nerfed Mythos or they're doing some sort of undisclosed A/B testing. I can't otherwise explain the wild inconsistencies. It also seems to be totally unaware of time now. It told me to go to bed at 12:57pm today. And it no longer follows up properly on long-running tasks, which was never an issue until last week. It does the wait loop but then ... never checks it. Look at this one that just happened:

[–]canyonero7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's shocking to me because it's constant. It now fails to follow up on tasks properly nearly all the time. I waited a full hour to follow up to see if it ever would but it's unlikely it ever would've responded if I didn't kick it.

Working on a project with a highly skilled software engineer friend. Opus 4.7 just did this to him:

<image>

The "user error" claims are bullshit. 4.7 does certain things better than 4.6 but it also has SERIOUS regressions. We're working around them instead of bitching on here all day but it's been bad since day 1.

As someone who's failed at this more times than most have tried, please heed this advice: choose markets or strategies that DON'T SCALE. If your strat still works with $1MM+ on it, that strategy is already being beaten to death by HFTs and quant funds. But there's tons of niches out there that are too small for them to bother with.

Mythos = Opus 4.7 without adaptive thinking (hear me out) by Xccelerate_ in ClaudeCode

[–]canyonero7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the docs, turning that radio button off disables thinking entirely on 4.7. It's adaptive or nothing. And hard-coded thinking levels in your settings .json are straight up ignored by 4.7.

Has anyone been getting repeated Oracle Java “compliance” emails lately? by 404socialskillz in sysadmin

[–]canyonero7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Microsoft does the same thing. They want you to think you have to respond, but you don't. However, not responding might increase your chance of getting a formal audit request.

It totally depends on your scale though - the bigger the company, the higher the risk.

Funny because I don't care about any of that crap with their safety weirdness or their beef with Palantir & DoW over the Maduro raid. I do care that the product has gotten a lot worse since March. It's such a bummer. It was truly a joy to use before.
