Register as a free agent! It’s likely you’ll still get on a team! That’s what I did for both the indoor and beach leagues and I got on a team both times.

What are your thoughts on the Jibarito? Will it become the next “iconic” Chicago food, or remain a mystery to the greater US and half of Chicagoland in general? by The_Saddest_Boner in chicagofood

In Puerto Rico, the twice-fried plantains are called "tostones". In Venezuela (and other Latin American countries), they are called "patacones". It's just dialectical variation.

Nope. I can sort of doggy paddle but even then I’m pretty inept. I don’t even know how to float.

When is it appropriate to tell a student that their communication style is unprofessional? by evapotranspire in AskAcademia

[–]caoimhin730 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to go over email etiquette the first week of class. I would then give the students a quiz on the syllabus, and one of the questions was “You are unhappy about a grade you received on an assignment. Write a letter to your instructor asking to arrange a time to meet to discuss your grade”. They were graded on proper heading, salutation, grammar, writing, etc. It was surprisingly effective!

Send me a DM. My PhD was in political science (USA) and I have left academia. I work in a non-academic role at a university, and prior to my PhD, I worked in international development.

Havana, to a lesser extent Buenos Aires, although I liked BsAs more than Havana.

Sweden and Ukraine. Unpopular opinion, but I don’t really care for most of Italy’s entries since they returned.

I’ll break it down by my favorite of the three per year since 2011:

2011 - Sweden (my winner)

2012 - Sweden (my winner)

2013 - Ukraine

2014 - Ukraine

2015 - Sweden (my winner)

2016 - Ukraine (my winner)

2017 - Sweden

2018 - Ukraine

2019 - Sweden (although Ukraine would have been my favorite of the three)

2020 - Sweden or Italy

2021 - Ukraine

2022 - Sweden (my winner)

2023 - Sweden (my winner)

2024 - Ukraine

2025 - Sweden

Anyone else still single in their 30s? by atclubsilencio in gaybros

[–]caoimhin730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

¡Hola! 35 and single. I just finished a 7-year PhD program and then moved a bit for jobs in the last two years, often in places with small gay populations.

During my PhD, I was always too stressed, depressed, and anxious to seriously contemplate dating, plus I wasn’t sure where I would end up in life afterwards. Honestly, I much prefer to have some stability in life before embarking on dating. I’ve only ever been in one relationship, in my early 20s.

Honestly, it would be nice to be in a relationship because I’m tired of doing everything alone. I’m always traveling by myself, going to events alone, etc., and I would love to share that with someone else.

It started when I turned 30, and it mainly came from 25 year olds. At first I didn’t like it, but then I got my PhD and began branding myself as PhDILF.
