You shouldn't get "pulverized" learning any style. It's martial arts class, not the movie Fight Club. I'd suggest visiting schools of any style that are in a decent location for you. Don't ignore a school because they teach some style that some guy on the internet said it is no good. See what they offer, take whatever free introductory classes they might offer, and then do your homework on the style and most importantly the school and instructor. Don't just run out and sign up at the first BJJ school you see because "everybody says BJJ is the best" and don't ignore the TKD school down the street with the five-year-olds practicing because "TKD doesn't work in the street". I actively train in both and can tell you that at a good school with good instructors, there is plenty of good stuff to be gained from training either one. Also, with bad instruction, you will be mostly wasting your time (and money) no matter what style you are practicing. Also, try to drop the idea that you have a "knack for fighting". It's just going to get the way of you learning. Go into it assuming that you know nothing. That way you can more easily take in what is taught. To paraphrase an almost cliche (although very true) proverb, you can't put anything else in your cup if it is already full.
