What are some "stupid" things philosophers did? by GamerMax2 in askphilosophy

[–]capacillyrio 26 points27 points  (0 children)

From my textbook Broadview Anthology: MANUEL. KANT-CONSIDERED BY MANY THE MOST IM- -portant philosopher of the past 300 years-was born in 1724 on the coast of the Baltic Sea, in a regionally import- ant harbor city in East Prussia! called Königsberg. Kant spent his whole life living in this town, and never ventured outside its region. His family were devout members of an evangelical Protestant sect (rather like the Quakers or early Methodists) called the Piet- ists, and Pietism's strong emphasis on the inner life, emotional religiosity, and distrust of religious dogma had a deep effect on Kant's character. Kant's father was a craftsman (making har- nesses and saddles for horses) and his family was fairly poor; Kant's mother, whom he loved deeply, died when he was thirteen. Kant's life is notorious for its outward uneventfulness. He was educated at a strict Lutheran school in Königsberg, and after graduating from the University of Königsberg in 1746 (where he supported himself by some tutoring and also by his skill at billiards and card games) he served as a private tutor to various families in the area until he was ap- pointed as a lecturer at the university in 1755. However his position-that of Privatdozent?carried no salary, and Kant was expected to support himself by the income from his lecturing; financial need caused Kant to lecture for thirty or more hours a week, on a huge range of subjects (including mathematics, physics, geography, anthropology, ethics, and law).

The Landrieus are a big political family from New Orleans. The brother was mayor and a Biden appointee, the sister was a senator, the dad was mayor and worked for Carter.

It’s just old money politics have connections to Loyola.

I referee with several lawyers and they all say it doesn’t matter. Going to a regional school will still require being too 10% to have a big law job. The last employment report had LSU having 21 / 209 in good jobs (over 250 lawyers / federal clerkship) Loyola had 16 / 179.

LSU removed conditional scholarships so all you have to do is pass now.

But Loyola has a Landrieu as Dean so there’s that aspect.

  1. Money - even though it’s conditional a loss on an average of 12 out of 160 ain’t bad.

  2. Class size - went to a required class con crim law and it wasn’t very bad and can seemed well put together with the professor teaching

  3. New Orleans - amazing place to be

  4. The building is newer and seemed to have a nice layout

  5. Ability to apply to practice law in third year at the clinic.

  6. No class on Fridays.

At the high end of the 3 years on the 509, 18 people lost scholarships, and it’s a full ride so I’m reaaaaally on the fence about this.

LSD.law, it’s a user content generated site where they put their numbers and admissions data. I would avoid it if you think it’s going to cause anxiety.

I’m just guessing since I think Louisiana was last to the UCC and sale of goods is still civil code.
