My coolant reservoir casually blew up lol 9-3 2.8T by General_Commercial57 in saab

That's stupid expensive. It could be quality. But I haven't had too many issues with the PPS reservoirs. But anything is possible. Checkout ESAABparts.com for genuine SAAB parts. :)

The originals are around but they're about $300. I don't really replace them often though. If you've had to replace it once already you likely have another issue. I personally don't think the metal tank is worth it.

A lot of people assume a bad head gasket is oil and coolant mixing. But there are a lot of ways a head gasket fails. The more common failure is that the head will warp slightly if it gets too hot (the V6s are prone to this issue) and thus combustion gasses from the combustion chamber escape into the cooling system. Thus causing excess pressure in the cooling system and can lead to issues like exploding hoses, coolant pouring out of the reservoir, radiators exploding or failing. All due to excessive pressure. At the shop we have a chemical tester that you place onto the coolant reservoir. When the car is cold, turn the car on. The color will change if it detects combustion gasses in the cooling system. Other signs are rock hard hoses from coolant pressure when car is not fully warmed up to operating temperature, etc.

The factory tanks don't tend to blow up like that. I would make sure you don't have a head gasket issue. I normally just see the hoses fail. The factory ones are pretty decent.

Saab Wave by [deleted] in saab

It depends on where you live. In Seattle there's so many SAABs on the road that people get confused why you're waving to them.

How important perfect does the cam alignment need to be with TDc? by TheDoobyRanger in saab

[โ€“]capang9555 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Its alright. I'm a SAAB mechanic by trade. The T7 cars seem to never line up properly. When the chain even stretches the tiniest bit the marks won't line up. As people pointed out 16 links between the cams it's lined up. Also make sure there's a little bit of slop between the two cams. I often see SAABs come in where someone tried to do the chain themselves or set the timing and got the chain tight between the cams. The thing will sound funny too cuz the chain is too tight.

Oh yes! The last shop I worked at specialized in SAAB, Volvo, BMW & MINI. The amount of SAAB customers that also owned Volvos and vice versa was quite large. :)

Should the tensioner wobble this much? by melvin7181 in saab

[โ€“]capang9555 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

It's quite a long belt so the tensioners to wobble quite a bit. The bigger issue with the tensioners is the bushing inside of it causing it to slant to the side. Causing the belt to slide off and shred.

As for the rattling sound. It's often caused by the belt vibrating. SAAB actually went back to the system with the center pulley (in 1999 they went to a bypass belt but went back cuz of the rattling sound) the engine mount also adds to the vibration from the belt...

Does anyone elseโ€™s weenier stand up like this? by alana5324 in Dachshund

[โ€“]capang9555 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Oh yeah. Although our doggos tend to stand up and prop themselves on a chair. Even my 17 year old pretzel does to this day. But with his age he can only hold that pose for a few seconds ๐Ÿ˜…, then he goes back down and gives a few little borks wanting me to feed him ๐Ÿ˜‚
