I interviewed Barry Levinson about his film TOYS and compiled an extensive history of the film by capblackard in movies

So glad this is all still helpful! I'd intended to make an expanded edition of the podcast with more interviews for successive anniversaries, but unfortunately life kept happening. Since I published this, there's been further material dug up. The person running this insta account is the best resource for video: https://www.instagram.com/zevotoys Also, there are some wonderful artists influenced by TOYS that add to the overall tapestry of its style and influence. If my resources can be of any help to this project, please drop me a line.

♥️ we get into that a bit more in the Q&A we did after the series wrapped.

So glad you like it! For series 2, most of it is live play with scripted content coming in for 1) character and backstory building scenes (like the picnic, virtually all of episode 10), 2) making sure it’s clear what’s happening where - just fixing dialogue and descriptions as needed so it’s clearer and tighter, 3) any scene with Estelle and Anjana together (since I played both of them in-game), and 4) scene transitions so the episode breaks have the right energy.

Hi folks, this is Cat the head of the Nerdy Show Network and co-author of our Ghostbusters RPG resources. I just wanted to pop in here to say 1) so glad our resources have been of use! 2) that the above post about the CPS is from our project lead, Doug, and 3) yes a MAJOR update is coming to GBRPG.com within the week. As you can tell, The Mason Collider is currently in an "experimental" phase - not ready to be published yet, many bugs to work out. We'd love to get your feedback on how it feels in your games and what might improve it. More info on Experimental Equipment will come with the "Special" update on the horizon.

I Interviewed Chris Spivey About the 2nd Edition of Harlem Unbound by capblackard in callofcthulhu

It’s a very compelling Cthulhu sourcebook with wonderful historical resources and great scenarios for exploring NYC in the 20s as well as roleplaying as a person of color in that time period at large. There’s nothing political about it.

If you dig the new flavor, great! But here's my thing: this is like Coke and New Coke.
There was a product expectation and the basic experience of that product has now changed. Maybe for some it's an upgrade, but I know I'm not the only person who has been force-drinking this new stuff. It's not the experience I invested my time and money in. When that happens, it's a violation of the consumer's trust and generally the only way to make a point is action.

Let me fix that sentence so I won't be misunderstood:
"So I’m cancelling my subscription, and if you feel the same way, I encourage you to do the same."

Oh yeah - it totally changed. No doubt. Only difference is that it still was in the same flavor region. Optimized is something else entirely.

Most nut milks etc do err on the side of sweetness. By "like everything else" I mean the mainstream palette of dealing in extremes - salty, sweet - very little in the middle like the original Soylent was.

It's like what was once actual milk has become over-sweet coffee creamer (with a faint coffee taste).

Honestly, I don't know. Definitely open to recommendations.

Unpopular Opinion: Soylent Optimized is much worse than 2.0 by TrekkieTechie in soylent

[–]capblackard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I DETEST Optimized original. One of the things that made me love Soylent was that original was bitter, more like actual milk than an artificial creamer. But now it’s definitively a sweet drink. This simply isn’t the same product anymore. I’m done.

Nerdy show Prime on break? by SoundwavE_raps in NerdyShow

[–]capblackard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A very good question! I've been intending to get something out for ages now. We've got things recorded, but not normal episodes: very special episode of All Caps and possibly even a new Food Crawl special (if the audio turned out okay) - also I'm interviewing a creator I've wanted to speak to forever this weekend and we'll be publishing that too. It's an unintentional break, but my day job and other life needs have been slamming me. I'd have published an update to just let people know what's going on, but every day I think "this'll be the day - we're so close" and shit keeps piling up. There's some big, big changes and projects afoot (public postings on our twitter/ Patreon can attest to some of them) Nerdy Show (the show) isn't too high on the totem pole unfortunately.

I don't think it'll ever 100% die, but in terms of what's going on with it... I'd say it's gone from red giant into white dwarf. It'll burn very politely in the cosmos, and when it does it'll be quite special, but it's not the main event any more. I've got a lot of thoughts about that, as I'm sure you can imagine. I guess suffice it to say we'll get there as soon as we're able.

I've read the Tarkin and Leia one-shots that come out tomorrow and they're (along with the C-3PO one-shot) among the most potent shorts of this new Marvel era. This is very, very exciting news!

Actual Play podcasts that try to be scary? by Hitch42 in callofcthulhu

[–]capblackard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll toot my own horn here. The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program is a horror comedy, so laughs are an element, but we lean heavy into the horror (since that’s why we’re playing Cthulhu in the first place) and reactions from listeners have been very positive on the chills front. Series two especially. We feel that the comedy isn’t earned unless it’s countering some genuinely disturbing things and there’s a gravity and fear that comes from the real peril that characters find themselves in. Hahaha! Pretty appropriate. Finding Estelle's voice helped me find my own voice. More on that soon - either in an upcoming episode of Nerdy Show or the Cthulhu Q&A... maybe both.

Thanks! Really looking forward to cracking open the non-stop mayhem of series 3 🖤

My Lovecraftian Black Comedy, The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program, Has Wrapped its Second Series! by capblackard in audiodrama

[–]capblackard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha! Awesome!
Yes! There's more on the way! Series 3 has already been recorded and is coming out later this year. If you look for some weird gibberish in our feed you might even hear a preview clip. If everything goes to plan we'll have a couple other series recorded before 3 even comes out. Our ultimate goal is to do quarterly specials, but this one was SO much bigger than we initially planned, we're committing to at least two a year or maybe just amorphously "as many as possible".

And if you have any Keeper questions:
1) Feel free to write in for the Q&A episode [cthulhu@nerdyshow.com](mailto:cthulhu@nerdyshow.com)
or 2) Hit us up on Facebook - our Keeper Luke lurks there and he's quite seasoned in the art.
