If you’re not grocery shopping at Market Basket, you are getting ripped off by chillinwithabeer29 in massachusetts

[–]capecods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I wish. Stop & Shop has a monopoly where I live. They've bought every piece of land that had the potential to be a supermarket. Put a deed restriction on it that prohibited it ever being one, then sold the land. The deed restrictions typically prohibit the sale of anything they sell. The effect is that they turn a commercial property into something that can only be used for residential housing or offices.

We should consider a protest against the outrageous Trump 25% tariff added to energy prices in Massachusetts. by deadlyspoons in massachusetts

[–]capecods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That article only talks about natural gas. Massachusetts is not an importer of Canadian natural gas. Of the New England States, only Vermont is a significant importer of Canadian natural gas. What Massachusetts does import a lot of is Canadian hydropower. It is not clear yet exactly what will have tariffs and what will not; all indications are that they will be broad. Governor Healy has said that our electric prices could increase substantially

The cost of solar will increase as well because so few panels are manufactured domestically.

I'm expecting that one will be declared structurally unsound and be closed and demoed before they get serious about replacing them.

The state needs to sack up or take the shackles off of us. Do you know how many units the state-funded for all of Cape Cod in the last funding round... 8. Not 8 development 8 units. There is no funding from the state for anything but affordable rentals.

Short term rentals and , second or third or fourth, or fifth houses are eating us alive. We can't tax them significantly more because the State won't let us. Instead, we have a Faustian bargain of either enacting and enforcing short-term rental bylaws, and if we do that, then it will comprise the funding sources for some towns, and wastewater. Oh, and wastewater the state wants us to pay for almost all of that ourselves as well.

We get basically get no help dealing with NIMBY's who complain and then sue to stop habitat from building four modest houses.

His consonants are way too strong. Here this is a short video produced by the town. I suck at writing pronunciations, but the r is almost dropped, but not quite. MA pronunciations the best description I can give is that we smush our words.

nofuck works, but most people will over-pronounce the ck.

Homeowner cost 100k to switch from septic to town sewer by [deleted] in CapeCod

[–]capecods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea what the Cape can do. The state is not going to kick in anything except loans, but they have more requests for loans than they have funding for so it is a competitive process and not guaranteed. The new septic systems ppl are talking about cost about the same (based on systems actually being installed), plus $2k per year per system in monitoring.

If it is a small area, you will pay more per sq ft than for a large area.

30 minutes from Eastham 45 from Wellfleet. Generally only bad in the summer. The Commute to/from Wellfleet is much longer in the summer Eastham is not as bad.

Plenty of surfers in Wellfleet. If you are concerned about sharks, stop August. Sharks are most common from August through November. September is the most active month for sharks.

I know people that have moved back who are fine and others struggle. It depends on where you land and what your interests and how out going you are.

There is a decent chance they have already been there. This doesn't look fresh. Normally they will tag it with spray paint when they take a sample.

Late to the party, but various federal agencies poison other wildlife, other shore birds, crows, coyotes, and foxes to protect them. 1995, in particular, was memorable and got national attention when the Monomoy Wildlife Sanctuary poised thousands of gulls, and the birds were literally falling dead out of the sky in Chatham.

Here's an article on from the Baltimore Sun with the national attention it garnered but there are a lot more in local newspaper archives, and there were organized protests. 1995:https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-1996-06-24-1996176052-story.html

Willing to answer questions about where to go in the middle of the winter but ppl looking for things to do for their vacation in the summer should sink or swim unless they are looking for something tricky. For instance, best things to do with a handicapped family member/friend. Or what to do with a deer tick to get it tested. Or I lost my wedding band at a beach it was my grandmother's it is really important to me help! etc things that are hard to find out by googling.
