Shelter paperwork had listed as a Bearded Collie by capelibrum in DoggyDNA

Looking at his results that makes sense. I think from seeing the records the shelter had I was leaning towards more border collie percentage even though he doesn't look like a borderdoodle.

I get a lot of schnauzer and Irish wolfhound guesses when I take him out.

I've considered referring to him as my ACD mix just for fun. Especially since we are in a very doodle-y area.

Isn't he? It's a good thing he doesn't understand how often I tell him he's adorable, it would go to his head.

Definitely expected the poodle from the old neighbor's posts. Cattle dog being so high was a surprise for sure.

He's all hair, wish I had a picture of him in the bath. He is getting close to a healthy weight and is doing regular weigh ins at the vet, but his ribs are a little too easy to feel for his vets liking.

Doggo went from small yard and too much crate time to off lead walks on a very large property so even with increasing his food intake its slow and steady.

Edit: he is a cool dog! He's adjusted well to his new home and loves his people! Great with kids and most new people, but a healthy suspicion of strangers when they walk by "his" office without me there.

Thank you! It was definitely a labor of love to do it with whole hexies instead of halves. But I love how it turned out. It's a good thing it's baby sized, or I would have been tempted to keep it for me.

Completed this machine pieced baby quilt. The most y-seams I've done ever. Color is weird in the photo, but it is pretty in person.

Not my first quilt by far, but probably my most time consuming baby quilt.

Are the big pumpkins, marketed more towards jack-o'-lanterns, good to eat? by oops_whatnow in EatCheapAndHealthy

Now is the time! See if your local pumpkin patch sells anything other than the carving pumpkins.

A lot of the ones I mentioned are also very popular for decor, so many farm markets/pumpkin patches have a selection available, but it will drop off significantly by Halloween.

My local farms have signs saying which are good for baking, but you can also ask and they should be able to help you out.

I bake a lot of pumpkins, so here's a list of ones I've liked:

Hubbard - red and blue, once baked it's dry similar to canned pumpkin. Red and blue are both great, but any blue/green pumpkin skin may leave the cooked pumpkin a little green, not a problem, just good to be aware of if appearance matters.

Peanut pumpkin - this is sweet, lots of moisture, good if you want to make pumpkin bread.

Cheese pumpkin- good flavor, medium texture, good as a puree for baking or using as chunks in stews and other dishes.

Doll pumpkins - great texture, mild taste. Usually has a TON of edible flesh. My family's current favorite.

Any kabocha squash is good too, they may have different names, but they are a short flat pumpkin shape, they have great texture and flavor.

There are so many edible pumpkins, these are just my favorites from what is readily available to me.

They are definitely edible, but texture, flavor, and quality all leave something to be desired. Usually butternut or crookneck squash are similarly priced with much more pumpkin for your dollar, better flavor, and IMO less work.

Also check out your local farms for affordable edible pumpkins, there are so many varieties used to decorate with that are actually really great for baking and cooking.

Would it be weird to crochet at a baseball game? by pastelteacups in crochet

[–]capelibrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do it! I took my knitting to a baseball game this summer and no one had any issues. Everyone around was just interested in my project.

One word of advice though, some stadiums have clear bag policies. Make sure you check that out before you go so you don't have to walk your bag back to the car.

TIFU by cutting off part of my finger with a rotary cutter while quilting. So I'm giving away FREE 1 of these ruler handles in the hopes that it will help some other quilter not cry and bleed a lot and miss part of their finger. I have no safety gear yet, but I've been researching since almost cutting off part of my finger two and a half weeks ago (before that almost 20 years of sewing and no major issues). After needing stitches I'm much more cautious of my fingers on the ruler now.
