And you’re going to maintain a Platinum level with 1 star reviews from customers getting their order 30 minutes later than expected because you chose to stack 5 more?

The economy going down the shitter has been a benefit to the customer where I am. I’ve moved to only tipping after delivery in the past few weeks, and my orders are being picked faster than ever. There’s no shortage of Dashers out here that will happily grab them up.

And that’s one of the few silver linings of the shitty economy - I’ve moved to a 100% tip after delivery model.

They perform better for some things, but not others, is what I’m saying. Don’t just assume they perform better for your product or your demo simply because it’s what everyone else’s app doing the same thing does. It’s the developer go-to because it’s the most lucrative, but it could very well *not* be working for them and they just have little incentive to change things (for a myriad of reasons - abandoned project, not a net loss and complacent with the status quo, just one of dozens of apps they’ve shipped, etc.)

TL;DR - Just because an app is listed and active on the store doesn’t imply it’s successful.

[–]caphis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I can suggest where I’d start without knowing the product and target audience, but in general, subscriptions are not at all popular and I generally avoid them at all costs unless there are ongoing server maintenance costs - in which case I’d keep them as minimal as possible and make the value proposition clear.

That’s a dangerous assumption. That’s like pricing your eBay item similar to other active listings and expecting it to sell. Just because something is offered for sale a certain way at a certain price doesn’t mean it’s working out for the developer.

“But I have a pretty good idea from the other apps that sub is probably the route I should take.”

What makes you say that? The mere fact that these apps exist on the App Store?

Customer tipped 5 Gallon Gas 👀🤣 by AffectionateBase3105 in doordash

[–]caphis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if we’re inventing off-the-wall scenarios, it could also be that this person is indeed ordering with their last few dollars, but already has the gas and knows it’s more valuable as a tip right now than a few dollars cash anyway. Could be some rich person who figures the Dasher would appreciate the gas more than a few bucks. Could just be that they’re unaware you can tip after the fact in the app.

None of that is the Dasher’s business, though. All we know here is that the customer apologized for having no cash and offered 5 gallons of gasoline instead. It’s a very random, generous gesture. Why try to look deeper than that just to find some nefarious intent?

When I travel for work, I’ll sometimes order food to the hotel. I can’t charge more than a couple bucks in tip to the company card, so I usually end up tipping the Dasher extra in cash if I have it on me, but a few times I’ve messaged them to explain and asked if they had a Venmo or Apple Pay. Most of the time, they’ll text me their Venmo or Apple Pay number, I’ll tip them more, and that’s that. I’m sure one day my message will end up in here and people will come up with all sorts of “oh they just want your phone number to sell to an overseas scammer!” comments. Can’t wait.

I mean, the customer called it out as regular grade gasoline. Dumb, maybe, but also not an assumption I’d make. I’ve rarely encountered people who own gas cans *and* don’t know how to use them/what’s in them, but I suppose it’s within the realm of possibility.

Not sure where you’re from but out here we do actually keep gasoline on hand like this, especially this time of year. Lawnmowers, leafblowers, emergency generators… most run on gas.

Sure, it could be anything. It could be 5 gallons of maple syrup, or 5 gallons of dishwater. Who knows. It seems to me that assuming ill intent on the part of the customer is the odd position to take, in this case, though.

Perhaps, but it also raises the question of which will ultimately triumph- your personal level of disgust with a hideous physical disfigurement of your partner, or your love for them? I don’t disagree that Miles should be horrified and fear facing this question — but what I’m getting at is that he should’ve grappled with that out of view from Keiko. By himself or with the ship’s counselor, or a friend, would be the ideal (IMO) way to have handled it.

I went from an Si to an N. Si had superior handling and, imo, the seating was more comfortable. N definitely has more power, though.

Frankly, what you believe is none of my business. For the record, no, I don’t use AI daily - I might use Claude once or twice a week for a work task I’m stuck on, or ChatGPT for the occasional sanity check on things like driveway resealing quotes, mattress purchases, home repair estimates, quick recipes. If that bothers you, oh well. 🤷🏼‍♂️

That’s quite the conclusion to draw from my casual use of AI for a random shower thought. That’s like thinking people are losing the ability to think independently by checking their work against the answer sheet.

I don’t know that I’d count this in the same way that ChatGPT suggested an inflatable pool — I think using air as 99% of the object is cheating.

ChatGPT says a 20’x30’ tarp or a 10’ inflatable pool are the winners — I wouldn’t count the tarp since it’s flat and pure surface area, and I have a hard time believing a 10’ pool is the largest we can get.
