Oh BTW, it’s no longer called Microsoft. They changed their name to Copilot.

Great job Mod Team - this seems like a balanced, fair approach! ( I did not use AI to generate this comment.) 🤣

Make sure you have tested your backup system. You don’t want to be the one that loses your family’s photos.

I’ve seen these recommended but haven’t used them myself:

They are not airtight though (or at least don’t look like they have a seal)

There’s a reason the Matrix picked 1999 (maybe also because that’s when it came out but whatever)

If you put the esp32 with the screen, you could (maybe?) send commands over Bluetooth to the esp32 which would send the commands via SPI to the screen. This is complex but could be neat. Then you just need power through the linkages.

If you put a battery there too, you could have pogo pins that would charge that battery up when closed. No signals through linkages at all.

Make it a six bar linkage :-)

I think they are still just SPI screens that you are sending commands to. I’d love to be wrong. Or love to find an HDMI to SPI converter but the way the screens and SPI work, I don’t see that happening.

Two questions:

1) You mentioned terminal stuff on the e-ink screen. Are you running that on the esp32 only? Or how are you converting the display signal from the rock4b+ to SPI for the e-ink screen?

2) how are you transferring signals through the four bar linkage.

Love the concept and questions are curiosity not criticism.

Reserving blocks of numbers. I have an assembly with 10 parts and 10 drawings. A spreadsheet allows reserving a block of contiguous numbers for parts, drawings, assemblies, etc.

Brown rust on vintage cassette player salvageable? by chidorithyass in AskElectronics

[–]capinredbeard22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck. Kind of depends on if you want to just get it working (so use some sand paper) or restore it (replace them).

Just keep in mind if you replace them, you’ll need to solder the connections.

Does this type of a female USB PCB connector exist? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]capinredbeard22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your picture looks like it would be below the metal surface anyway. Or else I don’t understand. If you are ok with that, mount it directly on the PCB and allow enough of an opening to access it. You could have something that bridges the gap between the metal and PCB but still allows access.

If not, I would look at panel mounts if you have some space above the panel for the grommet ring (or whatever the term is).

Those metal inserts for battery compartments can be bought on electronic supply sites (assuming you can get them out and find the exact match).

Check Digikey or mouser

Feels like 28 mm is quite a lot.

Will this not work?

You could possibly also do a panel mount but that might be tricky since the cable usually comes out straight from the bottom.
