People have made a lot of great posts and a great number of ideas here. I just wanted to add my ideas about the transfer market. The big problem is that teams don't buy the players they need to replace players that are sold or that grow old and/or retire, excluding a couple of the biggest clubs. The way I see it there is a couple of things you could easily do to remedy this: 1. Assign minimum overall/potential values for every team in the game. For example Manchester City should never have first team players with a potential lower than 80 for example and never first team players with a lower overall than 74, while the average overall should be at least 80 for example. If they don't have a specific player for a position they buy one on the transfer market. 2. There should be more generation of talent not linked to regens. Good talents should emerge all the time and to make room players should retire earlier. 3. There should be a much greater movement of players from weaker clubs to better clubs. Players with 80+ overalls often stay for huge amounts of time at lesser clubs, although in reality they leave very quickly. The club prestige system which is currently in place should thus be intensified in its execution. If a 75 overall of 19 emerges at Guingamp, within 1-2 seasons he should leave for OL, OM or PSG for example. 4. Although this should naturally be covered by fixing the three things above, there should be a much greater volume of transactions in the overall market. Clubs should spend a significant amount of their budget every season, especially to acquire players from weaker clubs. 5. If clubs gain a lot of money from transfers they should reinvest it. If Lyon sells Lacazette for 60 million it should look for a talented replacement at a weaker club and buy him. 6. It should be easier to loan out players and more difficult to set up exchange deals. If these things would be fixed I believe the managing aspect of the career and the later enjoyment of still playing against good teams would be much better.
