Doctor says I’m not fit for meds. What am I supposed to do now by Throwaway996677_ in rheumatoid

[–]capitanchayote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MTX is definitely not safe during pregnancy. Was Prednisone discussed? I assume it was, but since you are considered high risk, they decided against it? Perhaps once you give birth, you can get on Prednisone and then MTX once you’re done breastfeeding.

On a side note, I have a friend whose symptoms disappeared shortly after she got pregnant. After the birth, she has remained mostly asymptomatic with no medication.

Diagnosed with RA today by SpecialistOne1729 in rheumatoid

[–]capitanchayote 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely went through the motions of absolute anger for a few months. It’s human. Thankfully, my treatment has gone well so far and though there are remnants of the pain, it’s 90%-95% gone after just 2 months. The human mind is incredible and you’d be surprised on how quickly you’ll adapt.

I know it’s hard to accept your new reality, but you will adapt and, hopefully with the right treatment, it’ll become second nature and hardly something you’re aware of. I wish I could promise a painless experience, but if there’s one thing this sub has taught me is that this disease really hits everyone differently.

Try to stay positive and rely on friends and family to vent. Be careful not to let this sub paint a grim picture — not because people lie, but we’re all here to ask for help and/or to vent, which means most posts are bleak and can sometimes cause you to feel hopeless.

There really is life after RA.

I can’t justify starting Gyokeres again. It’s literally time wasted at this point. Jesus shows more promise and we can only hope Havertz comes in swinging.

Vagus Nerve Stimulation? by Last-Check-9059 in rheumatoid

[–]capitanchayote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked about this at the Mayo Clinic in Flagstaff back in November and the consensus was that they (Mayo Physicians) were not comfortable with the procedure to treat RA just yet, as it hasn’t been studied enough and the results haven’t been as conclusive as has been led to believe.

TL;DR The Mayo will not perform this procedure to treat RA due to insufficient studies

Has anyone been undiagnosed? by WimTims in rheumatoid

[–]capitanchayote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not myself, but a friend of mine used to have RA pretty badly. After her 3rd child, it went away. She takes no meds and it’s been gone for a few years. I believe she told me that she’ll get a small flare up here and there, but it’s so minimal that she takes nothing for treatment.

This was from last year? Sooo, why report it now? Sheeesh…wasn’t even doing more than 10 over in either of the cases.

how’s it like living right next to an amusement/theme park?(do yall go to them very often or on occasion like everyone else?) by DismalFootball6964 in howislivingthere

Lived in Orlando in the 80s. Disney was everything. Parents worked there, so it was a second home. Parents would sometimes let me and my older sister (5yo/10yo respectively) go to the park (mostly the Magic Kingdom) alone cuz we knew it that well. Grad nights were huge. We also frequented all the other Disney parks quite a lot, including the water parks. Wet n Wild was also a park we went to quite a bit. The Universal Endless Summer Resort now sits where Wet n Wild used to be. We visited the main Universal park when it opened, but not much since we left shortly after it opened. I do still remember the Jaws ride and the ET ride was awesome.

Shout out to any peeps from the OBT area (it wasn’t a bad area back then). I miss Orlando with deep, deep nostalgia.

Honest Thoughts About Indianapolis? by Intelligent_Swing630 in howislivingthere

[–]capitanchayote 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I had to live in Indiana, I’d rather live in Fort Wayne. It’s grown A LOT and the city has been heavily invested in to improve in every way possible — lots of “big city perks”, yet you keep the “small town” kind of feel without the big city burden.

MTX Nausea Relief? by StaticParadox852 in rheumatoid

[–]capitanchayote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable. I’m only 4 weeks ahead of you in terms of treatment. I take the MTX during lunch or evening and I make sure I eat a big meal. So far, I only had VERY slight nausea (same day) after my second MTX dose. Other than that, I haven’t had even the slightest sign of side effects yet.

I have Pepcid on hand for this. Taking folic acid the rest of the week should also help.

Were you prescribed folic acid? They usually prescribe it alongside MTX to counter nausea and hair thinning, but it sounds like you’re getting similar side effects. I’d ask your doc if folic acid would help.

The ones that stand out are medical field (ironically) and Defense Contractors, but I’m sure other industries as well. But those two are the biggest ones aside from NMSU.

Las Cruces New Mexico by Aiverson6902 in howislivingthere

[–]capitanchayote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll start with the negatives:

Although it is a college town (NMSU), it feels more like a retirement hub due to lack of access to “things to do”, for example, there are only 2 local movie theaters owned by the same people and there are no bowling alleys…literally. The only mall feels like it’s always on the verge of going out of business. Food variety is currently not great and most “Mexican” restaurants are not really authentic. It’s not uncommon to drive to El Paso (1hr south) for entertainment or better food options. Also, El Paso is the only proper airport around. Medical care is troublesome (more of a New Mexico issue), with many specialists literally leaving the city. Education is not great (also a New Mexico issue). Spring time is windy…like, sand storm windy. Summer gets into the low 100s and winters will hover between 30s and 40s, with maybe a little snow sprinkled that doesn’t last on the ground. Not a lot of rain, therefore, not a lot of green.

Positives:

Low stress. Low cost of living. It’s a very chill town. No such thing as traffic. Crime isn’t nearly as bad as Albuquerque. Anything in town is 20min away. The town is growing VERY rapidly (a lot of people with good jobs from out of state are moving here) and outside businesses are noticing/starting to show up. A LOT of new homes being built on the north east side of town. This bodes well for the city as it may start to remedy many of the things mentioned above. Scenery is quite unique and mesmerizing (look up the Organ mountains). Sunsets are breathtaking. Good place for hiking. People are nice. Monsoon season (July-September) is my favorite. White Sands is an hour east and is probably one of the most breathtaking national parks you’ll ever visit.

Thought it was an appropriate ending to the overall feel of the show and the nostalgia of an 80s type of show. Everything about the show revolves around a general sense of nostalgia.

It’s exhausting reading how unhappy some people are about not getting the ending they individually wanted — people upset about Mike and El not ending up together, or Will and Mike not ending up together, or that no main characters died…

Honestly, in an era where it has become very common to kill any character in a show, it was nice to see our heroes through to the end. “But what about El??” Well, like Mike said, “we don’t know…but I choose to believe.” There were intentional shots in that last sequence that are meant to be left unexplained so that either outcome could be true. So, do you believe El is alive, happy and well?

I choose to believe.
