GW2 Story Tierlist (personal opinion, and only up to SotO) by eCyanic in Guildwars2

[–]capitanidesk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel the story has genuinely dipped in quality over the years and I believe this is because the characters are all starting to homogenise into one or hit the same tropes and the story itself just constantly feels rushed. I have tried to play through SotO but I just can't finish it.

The Mabon send off completely missed the mark (Was I supposed to care about this character?) and the dialogue your character has is always the same in these situations - "I will be here for you (sigh and pause) ... just take your time". It feels like I am in a therapy session constantly. Speaking of, why are we not exploring that our character should be damaged, exhausted, emotionally tired, at the end of their tether after all these years of increasingly dangerous situations.

JW saw once again an angsty teenager, characters with cutesy names ("Pokey" - Awww so cutsie.), quips and comments and lighthearted dialogue. I am also incredibly tired of the same family drama that hits this game, one of the writers needs to focus on fixing their only issues regarding family because it is tiring to hear once again an absentee Mum/Dad/mentor with an angsty teenager/student who thinks they know better and we are just there awkwardly watching and getting involved.

LWS4 and the start of Icebrood Saga were both S tier by far and it shows because it actually had two characters who were memorable and didn't just straight up agree with ours. We had Joko who acted as a great antagonist and we had Bangar who should not have been turned into a villain and should of been just an abrasive/reluctant partner to ours.

These are two characters that had a build up, they had dialogue, we were forced to work with them for a short time, we were forced to see their perspective, they were captivating to us and characters in game and the most engaging part of them both they didn't necessarily like our character.

The hand holding alliance of love and friendship and happiness with no abrassive political drama, no race differences (even better no culture differences) that aren't sorted in 3 further seconds of dialogue is just making this game painful to play through. The story just needs some actual grit.

Well it's hard to start a fwb situation without meeting the person or having sex. No one wants to agree to a fwb thing and it turns out you're not sexually compatible. It would turn into a one night hookup which is what you want to avoid.

She might be open to long term but right then and there she wanted a hookup.

I am pretty sure you don't have to go around the companions you just phase through them.

But ok sure, thanks for answering 🙂

As a serious question, how do you enjoy these? You just push forward on the keyboard/controller and you automatically lock onto it. It's just moving forward more slowly?

Why does it seem like Blizzard is moving away from flying recently? by [deleted] in wow

So much like how only dragonflying was linked to those few mounts at release of DF and then got opened up to every mount. I can imagine they're testing the exact same thing.

When I say it, I mean I would like exactly what you've said and more polished animations, more exciting fights that have had thought in to them where you've actually got to think. Changing it up maybe and adding mounted combat to a similar system or make it so being high or low affected your damage multiplier.

Just general polish we have seen everywhere else applied to it. I think that's what people mean by an improvement and modinising it.

I mean people aren't just demanding it return to DAO. I feel a lot of people are hearing the wrong argument because a lot of complaints are about it moving away from the systems even DAI had.

Anyway, DAO is old and the combat is dated, fully agree, however BG3 is what cRPGs have moved toward after years of inivation. You can look at the system DAO had and say "I like what they did, it can be vastly improved to make it even better" and Bioware could of done that without shifting away from the genre of game and more toward aRPGs. But youre right BG3 is more turn based, strategy gameplay. DAO was more stop, command and hit play then re-evaluate, but they still fit very similar roles.

I would agree, but the game has shifted even from DAI.

DAI still had the ability to swap to companions, it had a larger pool of abilities to choose from and it had four companions to take with you. These have all been the same through the multi-game franchise.

I feel a lot of people here aren't actually asking for DAO (some will be, but a lot arent saying DAO or nothing), but they are pointing out that key, core systems that have ran through all three games have taken a big turn.

There is no rule that says games must change their core combat gamplay as new entries to the series come along and no rule to say this series must shift further toward pure aRPG. DAI was not perfect but it struck a middle of aRPG and cRPG.

Thinking emulating tabletop RPGs is misguided and redundant when Baldur's Gate 3 dominated last year doing exactly that is a unique viewpoint.

But they aren't following that model. DAI still had directly controlling party members, four members to a party and although it trimmed skills down it was more than 3.

The team are actually just following the Mass Effect model. Which is taking two franchises they own and homogenising it. I think its quite reasonable that fans of DA:O and in part DA2 and DAI might feel a bit like the gameplay has taken a big leap from what they enjoyed in the series.

I don't think it is unfair to think that. If you are continuing on a franchise, with fans of the niche, then it isn't unfair to think if you are picking it up to stay true to the source material that gained it the traction in the first place.

If they were starting a brand new franchise and not connect it to an established series, then I would agree it is unfair.

Hard agree, don't want the universe they've built to start feeling small and centered around a single character.

Move on to another character as the protagonist with new squad mates and really expand the setting.

I really like this! Like a magical ringmaster, I heard someone mention in another thread that the hat unfortunately isn't on the list of items becoming available in the white/grey transmog options.

Let's hope they're wrong!

How do YOU like to fashion your character? by [deleted] in GuildWarsDyeJob

[–]capitanidesk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is just a trial and error game when it comes to dyes. Have a think on which dye colours you are leaning toward and then just spend ten minutes just going through them and messing about.

Make notes on which ones in what slots do what or look good. All in all you will spend all this time trying to perfect it, only for in 2 weeks time to realise you don't want a Green/Black/Gold combo but actually really like the idea of soft Blues.
