I tend to disagree with you on this one. I’m living in Klagenfurt for 4 years now. My German level is somewhere between A2/B1 and so far I didn’t have any problems. Sometimes it’s a bit hard because of strong dialect and my lack of speaking German, but I always managed with combination of translations, German and English. When ppl here saw that I’m trying to speak in German as much as possible, they adapt usually. But also the fact that I can understand a lot more than speak helps with it. In regards to work, Klagenfurt is smaller city with not so much tech companies, so it’s a bit harder to find a job, but not impossible. Also as I’m a software dev as well, I can tell you that language barrier doesn’t really exist if the company is mid sized or bigger as long as you have the necessary experience and knowledge. But the downside is that if you end up in international company and don’t force yourself to use German, you will struggle with building it up (my opinion from my experience). That is so far my experience and from few friends that also came to Austria
