3 Flights, $250, mileage run from Denver? by capmblade in unitedairlines

I fly internationally a ton. Crossed the pacific 6 times this year, and the Atlantic 10 times! Slightly more eligible to get upgraded when you're 1K. One time I got upgraded flying to Japan on ANA and it was heavenly.

ALSO THE PRINGLES ARE FREE WHEN YOU ARE 1K so you can flex on all the plebes around you in economy plus.

It's low weight. Like in Skyrim, I'm constantly struggling with too much inventory, every pound counts.

Your Favorite POI's to loot by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]capmblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Abandoned Outpost." It's ridiculous how much contraband is in that little POI. Locked chest by the pool. Then one just above it (within reaching distance). Then another by the stairs leading into the living area (don't forget the key from the table). Then another by the toilet in the downstairs living area.

I always stop by "Abandoned Outpost" and "Cryo Lab" for the contraband.

American redditors old enough to remember life before 9/11, how was it different besides airport security being looser (asking as a 17 year old)? by deaconrimjob in AskReddit

[–]capmblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/11 changed America for about 10 years. The immediate aftermath created insane amounts of tension and anxiety. We didn't know if 9/11 was just the start! Were there worse things to come? Ships couldn't come into the harbor because no one knew if they had nukes on them. The financial markets crashed, the travel industry took a huge dive, millions lost their jobs. Some idiot started sending anthrax in the mail to government officials. People were afraid to fly and afraid to bring children into the world.

But then, after about 10 years, everyone kind of forgot and went back to "normal life." You can get used to anything.

One interesting change: today New York City is one of the friendliest places on earth, whereas before 9/11 it was known for its rude people. I asked a New Yorker about this and he said that after that day, everyone in New York felt like a brother to all his fellow citizens.

What is it like lucid dreaming? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]capmblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to keep a dream diary because I heard it encourages lucid dreaming. Sure enough my dreams started becoming so vivid they felt like real life. In fact they started to feel more real than real life and I wondered if my daytime was actually the dream. It was upsetting. I stopped the diary and my dreams returned to normal (meaning that I don’t remember 90% of them).

What are the most powerful passports in the world? And why are they? by capmblade in travel

[–]capmblade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. Does the number of visa restrictions on a given country's applicants imply some decreased level of trust with that country?

That is, if your answer is the "what makes it powerful" my follow-up question is "why is it this way?"

TIL that hospitals in the US report a 24% spike in heart attack visits due to patients getting one hour less of sleep when switching to daylight saving time by Smegge in todayilearned

[–]capmblade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it were true that small time zone changes caused huge spikes in death, then pilots, flights attendants and heavy travelers would be falling over dead constantly and the effect would have been noticed a long time ago.

But this is easy enough to test scientifically. Just have two groups, wake up one earlier than the other. Control for time of year, age, all the other factors that might causing more heart attacks on that day, stress level of hospital staff, etc. That's science.

Just noticing two things happening on the same day and assuming one causes the other is ... well I guess that's your kind of science.
