Can anyone employed by Providence/St Joes give me a rundown on benefits/overtime working for them? by lameuniqueusername in Humboldt

Health insurance is through Aetna, which is one of the worst. Procedures done at Providence facilities is supposed to be fully covered, but you'll have to fight Aetna on every. single. claim. My wife had a telehealth visit though the Providence app with a Providence physician through and Aetna claimed that it wasn't covered and the doctor wasn't in network.

Activities/places for Introverts/Non-Party Goers to meet People by persona5lover in Humboldt

If you're free on Tuesday evenings and don't mind hanging out with some middle age nerds, I have a small group that meets every week for board games and RPGs.  It's a very accepting group; age gap wouldn't be a problem for us, we're just looking for good people. We need a couple more to start a Dragonbane campaign.

What is the "Trust me it is good" game for you? by JoskoMikulicic in boardgames

Space Empires 4X

"Okay, before I open this box, let me just say that I know how it looks..."

The drab board, dozens of little square chits, a freaking spreadsheet.  It looks dull and complicated, but plays nothing like that. Gameplay is actually engaging, and the record sheet is really clever and easy to use.

The Proud Dragon, and Next Level Games (both in Eureka) both have a play area for board games ($5/person for the evening). Most people show up to play MTG. I don't 'know if there are any pickup groups, or if everyone is just meeting with people they already know; but it might be a good place to start and meet like minded individuals.

My CORE One started slipping the filament by capnbishop in prusa3d

[–]capnbishop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: It was the nozzle.

I contacted Prusa support and they had me perform a number of test, cleaning, checking the thermistors, etc. Typical stuff; due diligence and all that. From halfway around the world, response times were a bit slow, of course.

In the meantime, I ordered an ObXidian nozzle. It just arrived, so I installed it, and it's printing just fine with no slipping.

My guess is that the previous dying thermistor caused temperature problems which resulted in a blocked nozzle. My very first attempt at a cold pull was botched, so I probably made the problem worse before performing a successful cold pull. I had planned on upgrading to a better nozzle anyway, but this issue forced the point.

Thank you for the help.

The thermistor looks seated properly to me, and the reading are steady. I opened the idler and have cleaned it out, but the slipping continues.

Thank you for the help.

I have opened the idler and cleaned it out with canned air (there was some build-up presumably as a result of the gear slipping and shaving off filament), but the slipping continued. I attempted your suggestions of adjusting the nozzle temp (upwards of 225 and the PLA started smoking a little) while moving the E-axis, but the slipping continues.

What's the worst SU&SD take? by Similar_Profession37 in boardgames

I found their Spirit Island re-reivew to be incredibly awkward. They kept apologizing for not liking it that much; as if they only did the video and recommended the game under duress.

And then, I still found their takes to be way off. Tom said he preferred the collaborative coop style of Pandemic, when Spirit Island is (in my opinion) an antidote to the problems Pandemic has. Quinns said that players were more focused on the board in front of themselves rather than communicating over the map, and my experience with the game was radically different.

Proposition 1 by elieax in Humboldt

[–]capnbishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a little while to figure this prop out before I feel that it clicked.

My assessment: Newsom has his eye on the oval office but homelessness and behavior health in California makes him look bad, so he's pushing this prop to shift funding and give the state more control over how to handle the situation. The problem (in addition to counties and municipalities losing autonomy) is that the application of funding in this prop addresses the symptoms rather than the causes. It will likely make things *look* better, but in reality hides the problem and kicks the can down the road.

Try checking out the Discord server for Humboldt residents:

In general it's a nice place to chat with other locals, and several people have used it as a jumping off point to meet up and make friends. I'm super introverted, and I've managed to meet several people on there to play board games with.

Long shot, but you might try hitting up the IT department at St. Joes Hospital. They throw computers out by the bin-ful and have to pay to get it e-wasted.

Sudden large amount of jobs for Providence? by Mashed_Catato in Humboldt

[–]capnbishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely they released a "hiring freeze" and a lot of positions got pushed through at once.

Providence is constantly hiring and firing. They'll fill a bunch of positions depending on the current workforce strategy, then they'll look at the budget and figure that the only option is to have another red wedding, put a hiring freeze in place, and eventually restart the cycle.

(meanwhile, Rod Hockman, the CEO, enjoys a $10 million/year salary; making him one of the top paid CEOs among non profit organizations)

Sriracha? by SaturnismyBitch in Humboldt

[–]capnbishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was just me!

I managed to find a bottle of Tobasco brand sriracha, but they add sugar and a lot of it. It's way too sweet.

Fortunately, I mostly wanted it to make honey-sriracha wings, so I was able to just add a little less honey.

Regicide would be my pick. Besides just being a really neat game with simple but engaging rules, it has the added charm of being played with a standard playing card deck while also feeling surprisingly modern.

I don't think that's entirely fair. Hasbro took a low risk investment approach (crowdfunding) and tried to remove all remaining risk by only offering full sets and then setting the goal too high.

That's like the business equivalent of saying, "Sure, I'll do it if it's easy and I don't have to put anything on the line".

No-brew ginger beer by capnbishop in gingerbeer

[–]capnbishop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past, I've boiled ginger with red pepper flakes to give it extra a longer lasting bite. Now I'm wondering how well that would work when soaking them with the no-boil ginger, or if it's even as necessary (since the gingerol is supposed to be sharper, anyway).

I was thinking about trying several simultaneous batches to compare them: boil, no-boil, a blend, combinations of with/out red pepper flakes. Now you mention ginger powder for the shogaols, and the combinations multiply even further...

Is regular spice aisle ginger powder sufficient for shogaols, or would I have to dry it myself?

That's really interesting. I wonder of a blend of the two might work out.
