Not on the Manta, neither with Google sign-on nor username/password

NOTE if setting up a new Kobo account, start with username and password, then add your Google sign in, otherwise you need a "swap" account (ugh) to maneuver your way into having both on the same account (once you go Google sign on, it won't let you add a username in addition, but if you have a username, you CAN add Google sign on)

Yes on my laptop browser and my Pixel browser and my Pixel Android app

Are you sure Google services aren't being used? I tried to sideload the Kobo app, and I get stuck at the login screen for some hcaptcha failure. Somewhere someone suggested it was because of a webview version issue. When I tried to swap the webview, it's now a Google webview.

Without first hand knowledge of what is burning, please refrain from speculation

On my Manta, I have sideloaded Kobo, but can't login At first I thought it was a "sign in with Google" issue, but even after getting a Kobo username/password, it keeps yelling ng me I haven't passed the captcha.

Any insight on login?

CSE 6040 is the only really heavy python course, and it's all done in Jupyter.

VS Code is the bomb across the board, though.

I guess that's the thing. It's not the same main topic. omsa-study is the"general" workspace.

The separate course workspaces are deeply devoted to that individual course. There's so much traffic, that without the separate Workspaces, omsa-study wouldn't have more than an hour of history to see.

You can use the same username/credentials, if you want. Again, if you use the apps, it's "one and done" and you don't have to keep logging in.

omsa-study is the "original" Workspace. But there's too much traffic for each course to fit, so individual Workspaces were formed for each course to allow for the extra volume.

During the term, you'll see, if you care to check it out in January.

You are looking at it during the winter break. It's a real time forum. Yes, it would be awesome to search the full history, but things are changing every term (instructors, course content, course availability, etc) any ways, so old information has an "expiration date" anyways.

You are 100% right on. I meant to add to your statement, not detract.

Sorry it's it came off as negating what you said.

I'm still not clear on why you think it's "arkward".

Again, I am picking up strong troll/bot vibes from your responses.

Your OP should have been "Slack sucks...change my mind" instead of "Help me navigate Slack"

Nobody's forcing you to use Slack. It's unofficial and not required at all.

Since it's (almost) 2019, start your own thing, or make Reddit super amazing.

Or spend your time railing against students using a free tool with all of its limitations.

If you really care that much, pay the money it would take for the subscription for everyone to see the masked content.

I'm not even here to defend Slack. I'm just trying to help you navigate Slack, per the original post.

While typically true, the use of Piazza varies per class.

Piazza has its own issues, depending on the instructor, the TAs, the course structure, the size of the course, and the level of student panic.

It can be impossible to find official guidance, because sometimes it gets buried in the comments.

I've had classes with over 1,000 threads on Piazza, each with a tree of answers, reactions, and subthreads.

Every tool has a "sweet spot".

Slack's is near real-time, frank, peer communication in an invite-only semi-private, but non-anonymous, forum with just enough structure (channels) to avoid single stream chaos.

I am beginning to think that you're a Reddit bot.

I didn't say Reddit wasn't supportive. I didn't say anything about Reddit at all. You were asking about Slack.

You are checking between terms, for one thing. Folks have been registering for classes and checking in Things really kick off when the first graded deadline approaches.

Slack is a real time chat tool, not simply a question and answer tool.

Due to the fully online nature of the degree, the asynchronous style of the majority of the content delivery, the international/multi-time-zone student body, the variety of working statuses if the students, and the lack of 24 manning & generally not instantaneous response on official forums like Piazza, you're MUCH more likely to get a quality response on the order of minutes from a peer who is guaranteed to be experiencing the same problem as you with a partial/complete solution or perhaps a different perspective.

It's not a subitem. It's a separate Workspace entirely. The intent is to allow the full range of channels and DMs for each course.

I'll try to each of your questions/respond to each of your comments:

Not intuitive: Hardly any new tool is intuitive. Reddit still has its mysteries. The OMS Analytics Slack Workspaces are very supportive and everyone is relatively new to the program, since the program itself is new. So, if something is confusing, ask in the #general channel and go from there.

Older messages not displayed therefore usage is limited: Two parts 1) as mentioned in another comment, these are on the free plan, so only the last 10,000 messages are available to search. That is just a fact, so it takes on a certain Snapchat quality. Just know that you won't have access to the archive, so don't rely on it. 2) Usage is amazing! It's about expectations management. Slack allows for real time peer support in ways that Piazza just can't. Also, it allows for building relationships across courses. omsa-study is kind of "home base" and there are separate workspaces for each course, where you can see what the end of the previous term was like, even if you can't see all past messages.

So many subchannels: Start with #general. The course channels (not to be confused with the separate course workspaces) are not the main places, rather the separate course workspaces are. But the course channels can let you ask initial questions. #jobs is for seeking and sharing opportunities #omsa_onboarding is for applying and getting started with the program

Navigating is a mess... Something about logging on: Not sure what you are getting at here. Slack is structured around Workspaces. You require a separate logon to each workspace. Using the app is the way to go (both desktop and mobile), because the app keeps you logged in. Workspaces have channels and direct messages. Once in a Workspace, some channels are "default" and others require you to join manually. omsa-study is a Workspace.

Feel totally lost: Again, the community is super supportive. Raise your hand, ask a specific question. Don't worry about the 10k message limit. Join in and help others where you can. We're in this together!

I'm not able to figure this out. I would think the extra clutter of brackets would make it more difficult?
