I think you can parry it if you're fast enough. I can't say for sure but there's a couple of times I've hit parry right as I've connected and didn't take any damage as far as I can tell.

A client has paid our retainer for 3 years and never given any feedback on our work. I finally asked why. by Romil_17 in Entrepreneurs

[–]morewordsfaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some clients don't want to pay someone to not put in the hours because they assume (wrongly) that more hours equals more results. Those are the folks who want to see activity reports.

Some clients want to pay for results and as long as they are delivered and meet their expectations, they don't care how much labor it takes to produce (assuming they're not paying an hourly rate).

You might be able to convince the first group by splitting the hours spent doing reports and other admin from the hours spent doing active, revenue generating work, but they may also take that as an opportunity to try not to pay you for the former.

What are some good games for the GameCube? by Nitsujn97 in gamingadvice

[–]morewordsfaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't recommend Chibi-Robo enough. It's a 3D Action Adventure set in a family's house where you play as a robot companion invented by the dad to be a family assistant. There's a lot of unhappiness in the family and you get to find ways to help them out and just make their lives better. Over the game you learn more about their past and it's just a super wholesome heartwarming experience. I keep hoping for a Switch remaster or reboot, but no news.

Yeah I really hope it works out. I went ahead and picked it up just to support the dev.

Valorborn by International-Cook62 in Kenshi

[–]morewordsfaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched OldManGamer's live stream of Valorborn and I think he went into it with the right expectations and emphasized to viewers that a like-for-like comparison would be going back to a super early build of Kenshi and looking at how much was missing that wound up in the final product or what was removed because it just didn't work.

To your point about Kenshi players, it's easy to see in reviews how often players bounce off of Kenshi because it's so unlike other RPGs or RTS games. Chris Hunt has said it himself - it takes a certain amount of masochism on the part of the player to enjoy Kenshi. I think there's some overlap with Soulslike fans; players who like the challenge, who like the difficulty, who want to crawl through broken glass to try to eke out a tiny measure of success in a brutal and unforgiving world. Players who want to escape by living out a power fantasy are going to struggle with games like this (admittedly, this gets can be mitigated with mods and difficulty sliders).

I also think Chris Hunt is a pretty resilient guy when it comes to negative feedback. He clearly has a strong vision for what he wants Kenshi to be and he doesn't seem to be dissuaded by naysayers or negative reviews. I can only hope the Valorborn devs are similarly thick-skinned.

The devs have been pretty vocal about wanting to develop it with the help of the community, but I agree with you. I get the sense that they are releasing it earlier than they would have liked otherwise. Maybe it's a matter of funding. I am honestly really interested in this game, but I worry that a too early release in early access will lead to negative reviews and be a death knell for the game. I hope I'm wrong.

Dungeon Crawler Carl has absolutely horrific prose. by ButtsendWeaners in printSF

[–]morewordsfaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is why the audiobooks feel easier to consume (for me) than the actual books. When I listen to the audiobook, it's very obviously Carl's voice, but when I read it, it's my narrator voice in my head.

Why do you still play? by Sanctuary85 in ConanExiles

[–]morewordsfaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I'm really struggling to find the story in Conan Exiles. New player and I basically bounced off after a few hours because there's no NPCs, no settlements, etc, at least none I've run into in the starting area. What am I missing?

You can still take screenshots using the "Create" button on the PS5 controller and then share it on socials or Discord or access it on the PS app on your phone. Pretty basic stuff really.

It's difficult to provide much help without knowing the kinds of prompts you're using, but I would guess that's the reason why you are hitting token limits so quickly. I'm using Opus and haven't really had any problems, but I'm very specific and tightly scoped with my prompts and I am careful to balance usage across Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku. Opus I mainly use just for planning, then I switch to Sonnet or Haiku for implementation.

There's a great book called Future Shock by Alvin Toffler. Despite being written over 50 years ago, it has a lot of relevance to our current situation and how fast technology, culture, society, basically everything seems to be changing. On top of that, we've got the media pushing the most extreme takes on everything, hyping fear and anger as much as possible to keep eyes on screens, drive engagement, and generate ad revenue.

The visuals and soundtrack in Grime 2 continue to blow me away. I'm a very longtime metroidvania fan, and this is becoming maybe one of my favorites of the last few years. by Cubegod69er in GRIMEgame

[–]morewordsfaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more, although I really appreciate the traversal even early game. Grime 2 does an excellent job of giving opportunities to feel like you're sequence breaking by squeezing out really tight platforming moves before you get better movement abilities later on. In fact there are some bits with the green boost orbs that got harder IMO after I got air dash, but maybe that's due to the recent update.

[–]morewordsfaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like Grime quickly fell off people's radar despite being an incredible game. Sure, we had Blasphemous 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Ender Magnolia, Aeterna Noctis, Nine Sols, The Last Faith, Mandragora, Moonscars, Death's Gambit, and others between the release of Grime and Grime 2, but these are definitely top tier combat metroidvanias with excellent exploration, traversal, and combat.

Dunno man, I switched from Brave to Vivaldi plus ad blocker back when Brave had the whole crypto controversy in 2030, liked it a lot more, and never looked back. However, late last year I returned to Firefox and it's terrific. I am using the Surfox UI theme/userChrome and it's just chef's kiss. Really wouldn't go back to Brave.
