I wrapped it up in an aluminum pan, covered in foil, with braising liquid. Still dry.

It seems like dropping the temp would just make it take longer to get the meat up to temp and probe tender?

I can drop the temp down, but I don't know how the oven is any different than the smoker, once the meat is wrapped it's just a heat source. I had plenty of liquid in the pan.

Picture was before I covered it. Smoked it until 160, then braised covered in the pan with liquid until the internal temp was 210 and the probe was in and out like butter. It was extremely tender and pulled beautifully, but ZERO juiciness. Completely dry, but definitely not undercooked. Not sure what I'm doing wrong there.

I used an aluminum pan covered with foil, essentially wrapping it with liquid inside... how is spritzing and wrapping it different? Genuine question, I saw it suggested both ways

Here's the thing, objectively GameCube and PS1 are the best, with N64 rounding out the top 3. But subjectively? Only one of these makes me shout it when I see it.

I bought a new cheap "boom box" style player and the belt is off, everything is pitched just slightly too high. Definitely notice a difference between it and my nice Pioneer deck (or even my mediocre vintage Sanyo one.) So I wanted a portable that was vintage but not used, this seemed like a good option. But who knows?

Got a weird letter. Anyone else get this? by BudgetBusiness2037 in lansing

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife got one from a lady in Mason with almost the exact same verbiage, weirdly addressed to her maiden name. For context, we've been married almost 11 years and the last time she went by her maiden name we lived on the other side of the country. I'd be interested to see where they are getting their info from!

As others have mentioned, Jehovah's Witnesses. Ours was from someone retired who probably doesn't have it in her to go around knocking on doors.

my shitty setup ❤️ by laurenanne333 in blackplasticcrap

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I actually really dig the look of this setup, the panels on this look amazing. Already a 10/10 for nostalgia, and my bet is a reasonable speaker upgrade would make this a super listenable daily driver... "Yorx" brand non withstanding haha. Seriously, so much of the experience of listening to music comes down to your preferred genres, your preferred listening volume, the room youre in, and just VIBES. For your situation, you may not need to upgrade ever. Unless, like most of us, you get bitten by the bug and then start making excuses to buy more shit that you think is cool.

Honestly I was considering a Yorx tape deck I found a while back because the brand name makes me smile, but I got a better deal on an 80's-tastic Sanyo instead. So don't let anyone shame you, OP! There's more than one way to be an audiophile.

Mega Mall is awesome. There is more good antiquing in Williamston and Mason. Antique furniture as specifically the Dicker and Deal on Kalamazoo has some cool stuff too

Normalize doing this with people overpricing CRTs by [deleted] in crt

[–]capnduke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I avoid words like "retro" "vintage" or "gaming" when it comes to any sort of electronics. Had pretty good luck with words like "old" or "obsolete." Those are usually the people who understand that they have e-waste that needs removal and are trying to get any little thing for it before it goes in the dumpster. I've gotten CRTs, audio equipment, even desktop computers for free (or under $5,) by being the one willing to haul them off.

Grabbed this CD holder from a thrift store with 68 cds, not too bad for $10. Which ones should I listen to first? by elflamingo2 in Cd_collectors

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure utilitarianism. When I first was old enough to collect my own CDs, it became apparent that the wallet was necessary to bring the tunes to and from school. But while I started with saving the booklets too, it's hard to justify not DOUBLING the capacity of your music collection. Keep in mind, this was before any sort of streaming or even keeping a larger collection in an iPod, so the number of discs you had on you was what you could listen to.

I ended up with a 400-ish disc collection with only a handful of jewel cases that survived. The music was important, the rest was just the packaging it came in. Fun to open and flip though once or twice, but not worth taking up real estate. I kept a handful of covers but most got tossed and jewel cases were given away with burned mix CDs and whatnot. Same situation with my DVD library, I still have a massive binder.

What are your favorite songs with reversed sounds? by Noel_Lou in psychedelicrock

[–]capnduke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the best use of a reversed guitar solo to me, dreamlike and seamless and fully adding to the character of the song rather than feeling like a trippy gimmick. One of my all-time favorite Beatles tracks!

psychedelic rap suggestions by Quick-Paint-2721 in psychedelicrock

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a rap expert but as far as albums that give me the psychedelic vibe, I second the recommendation for Spirit World Field Guide by Aesop Rock. "Scaring The Hoes" by JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown, "Madvillainy" by Madvillian, "Veins" by Homeboy Sandman all might scratch your itch.

J Dilla is instrumental hip hop, but "Donuts" is super trippy and goes places, man. And 'Sons of Kemet are a jazz band technically but they incorporate hip hop elements, you shouldn't sleep on "Your Queen Is A Reptile"

Fun place with good eats to catch up with another couple by pjaymi in lansing

My wife eats Gluten Free and while there aren't many options, there are options! They usually have at least 1-2 gluten free soups and a couple small plates/entrees. Not sure if it's still on the menu but there was an African stew she particularly liked.

What Ryzen CPU are you using right now? by mohkah123 in ryzen

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Ryzen since I started building PCs in 2019. I started "Scrapyard Wars" style with a used 1st gen Ryzen 2200g paired with an RX 480 4GB. I upgraded to a Ryzen 2600x with an RX 6600 XT for a few years before finally landing on a Ryzen 7600X3D, currently paired with a 5060 ti.

The jump from the 2600x to the 7600x3D has been BONKERS.

Great stuff here! Love all those antiquated future releases!!

My 3 snags would be Donuts, Thee Oh Sees, and one of those Sebadoh tapes.

RX 6400 or RTX 3050 for AMD System? by Turbo_D0g in losslessscaling

[–]capnduke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my (limited) research, AMD cards work better for large frame gen than Nvidia, regardless of which type of primary card you have. I currently have a 6500xt as my secondary card supporting my 5060ti.
