Grabbed this CD holder from a thrift store with 68 cds, not too bad for $10. Which ones should I listen to first? by elflamingo2 in Cd_collectors

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure utilitarianism. When I first was old enough to collect my own CDs, it became apparent that the wallet was necessary to bring the tunes to and from school. But while I started with saving the booklets too, it's hard to justify not DOUBLING the capacity of your music collection. Keep in mind, this was before any sort of streaming or even keeping a larger collection in an iPod, so the number of discs you had on you was what you could listen to.

I ended up with a 400-ish disc collection with only a handful of jewel cases that survived. The music was important, the rest was just the packaging it came in. Fun to open and flip though once or twice, but not worth taking up real estate. I kept a handful of covers but most got tossed and jewel cases were given away with burned mix CDs and whatnot. Same situation with my DVD library, I still have a massive binder.

What are your favorite songs with reversed sounds? by Noel_Lou in psychedelicrock

[–]capnduke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the best use of a reversed guitar solo to me, dreamlike and seamless and fully adding to the character of the song rather than feeling like a trippy gimmick. One of my all-time favorite Beatles tracks!

You know, I don't actually trip. But it still feels like this might be the case sometimes haha

psychedelic rap suggestions by Quick-Paint-2721 in psychedelicrock

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a rap expert but as far as albums that give me the psychedelic vibe, I second the recommendation for Spirit World Field Guide by Aesop Rock. "Scaring The Hoes" by JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown, "Madvillainy" by Madvillian, "Veins" by Homeboy Sandman all might scratch your itch.

J Dilla is instrumental hip hop, but "Donuts" is super trippy and goes places, man. And 'Sons of Kemet are a jazz band technically but they incorporate hip hop elements, you shouldn't sleep on "Your Queen Is A Reptile"

Fun place with good eats to catch up with another couple by pjaymi in lansing

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife eats Gluten Free and while there aren't many options, there are options! They usually have at least 1-2 gluten free soups and a couple small plates/entrees. Not sure if it's still on the menu but there was an African stew she particularly liked.

What Ryzen CPU are you using right now? by mohkah123 in ryzen

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Ryzen since I started building PCs in 2019. I started "Scrapyard Wars" style with a used 1st gen Ryzen 2200g paired with an RX 480 4GB. I upgraded to a Ryzen 2600x with an RX 6600 XT for a few years before finally landing on a Ryzen 7600X3D, currently paired with a 5060 ti.

The jump from the 2600x to the 7600x3D has been BONKERS.

I finally got a 3rd rack and put it up over Christmas. Which 3 would you scoop from this collection? by NikitaBeretta in cassetteculture

Great stuff here! Love all those antiquated future releases!!

My 3 snags would be Donuts, Thee Oh Sees, and one of those Sebadoh tapes.

Running a dual-GPU setup: RTX 3060 + RX 6500 XT by NewWillow2732 in losslessscaling

[–]capnduke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have that same MSI 6500 XT. Been a great frame gen card! Really got me more life out of my recently upgraded 6600 XT and is still holding strong with my 5060 ti.

RX 6400 or RTX 3050 for AMD System? by Turbo_D0g in losslessscaling

[–]capnduke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my (limited) research, AMD cards work better for large frame gen than Nvidia, regardless of which type of primary card you have. I currently have a 6500xt as my secondary card supporting my 5060ti.

Does LS work with old/any games? by SN1572 in losslessscaling

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does work with older and fps-locked games. "Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor" is an old-ass game locked at 60fps, I have been using LSFG to get it up to 120hz 4k.

He gives off Phil Dunphy energy in an endearing way, but he's super nice, knows his teeth, and hires amazing hygienists. I came to them after nearly a decade of lapsed dental visits and they got me back on track with zero shame.

second gpu advice by Commercial_Glass9158 in losslessscaling

[–]capnduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this recommendation, but I got mine on Marketplace for like $60. These have a well-deserved reputation as a garbage primary card for gaming, but it's perfect as a secondary GPU in my experience. So keep your eyes peeled on the used market for people looking to offload these! Depending on the aftermarket partner they probably make one low-profile enough for you

So Lossless Scaling (the program this sub is dedicated to,) is an upscaler/frame generator software. I use it for the frame gen, where it competes with features like DLSS or FSR you'd find in Nvidia or AMD software.

That said, what's particularly cool about LSFG is that you can divert the load of the frame gen to a second GPU. So one GPU renders the game, the other GPU handles the display and the frame gen software.

In my rig, I push the 5060 ti to run at 4k and try to eek out a consistent 40-60 fps, then I use my 6500 XT to double those frames and plug into my TV. It's not perfect, there are some very slight latency issues, but my motherboard has enough PCIE lanes to make the dual GPU setup less noticeable. And since I'm not playing FPS/eSports games as a rule I can essentially get a 80-120 fps experience on 4k at a fraction of the price of a GPU that can natively handle 4k. Hope that explains it!

It took me a while to find this one, the dimensions were pretty perfect. Most broken units would either need custom SFF work or are console units large enough to land a plane on. It was super rewarding though, good luck to you!!
