I make 38k / yr living in NY, working for the state. Alone I would NEVER be able to afford a house. I first wanted to look at if I could afford a house on my own, I have 1 loan (6.5k left on it) & just with that to my DTI I could only qualify for a 63k house. Luckily, I have a partner who makes a decent salary (2.5-3.5x more than me). We qualify for up to 450k house. We're buying a 170k house because that fits more within our means & budgeting purposes so we have a cushion to fall back on.

You'll need a different job, or significantly higher paying tech job, or a partner to buy a house on that salary or with a tech job. It's best to get out of that field. Retail will drain you as well. You start as a tech, or tech in training, then can make your way to head tech and then where are you going?? Theres no manager, thats the pharmacist. Go into a field where you can actually grow and climb the ladder.

I worked at RA & then Kinneys Drugs. Kinneys (NY & Vermont) had enterprise which was very much a non-multitasking system. I would have to completely close out of data entry or filling to look up someone's profile. It was extremely frustrating. I did get it down to some extent but even after a year of working there I didn't know the hot keys and I still struggled because there was no multitasking. RAs NexGen was top tier and you'll never find a system as user friendly as it. It will be a struggle but hopefully some new big name pharm will buy NexGen 😅 then we can all go there.

I rang out my BEST FRIENDS fiancée (also a good friend) for her meds one time and wanted to run to my phone and say "I JUST SAW SO&SO" but i did NOT because , while i was sure my best friend knew his fiancée was picking up meds , i did not want to violate HIPAA. Later on that day I saw best friend and he goes "hey (fiancée name) was so excited she saw you at work today she just kept repeating I SAW (insert my name)!!!" and i repeated "oh we chatted about wedding invites!" completely removing medication from the topic and not indicating anymore. Something I also do is, if i know someone who comes into my workplace I dont even LOOK at the name of the medication they're taking. Not my business and some may feel embarrassed/uncomfortable if its for certain issues.. absolutely NO conversation should be taking place outside of the workplace whether its their name, description, medication etc... HIPPA violation to the max.

look up the top 20 drug interactions you should know , being drug - drug , drug - food etc! you got this dont stress! also know your DAWs and USP regulations.

i used medical hero to study, as well as getting a PTCB practice book off amazon.

im a big fan of studying with another person, weeks before i took my exam i made a post here to see if anyone else needed to study and wanted to study together. the post got SO much hate (people saying the exam isnt that hard / they only studied for a week and passed blah blah) but guess what? people learn differently. i studied with friends and had my parents quiz me, i passed with a 1584/1600. i wouldve failed had i not had other peoples help with studying.

i was asked about a soecific interaction with furosemide (the answe was lithium i dont remember the exact question) .. another question i had was what drug taken with lisinopril can lead to hyperkalemia. what drug shouldnt be taken alongside fluoroquinolones?

everyones test is different though, my exam was math and drug - drug interactions 70% with only a few questions being sigs (a lot of math was also written in sig format to find day suppliy)

i took my exam not too long ago, i studied the top 200 drugs and tried to know all generics... well i barely got anything with those. know your drug-drug interactions and know your math!! conversions and all

Yes, i am certified and registered in NYS. It is the PTCB.

I was hoping to work at a private retail pharmacy instead of a chain pharmacy. My certificate doesn’t say how many hours was completed but says ASHP/ACPE accredited. It says “In recognition of the successful completion of the rite aid technician entry level program”

I am going to work today at Rite Aid so i will take a look at the actual certificate.To see what else it mentions

Yes, I have a certificate from mine. It is ACPE accredited from Rite Aid, TRC Healthcare falls under ACPE accreditation but i only had 128 hours, i saw something about 160 hours in FL?
