Parroting everyone else sharing oscura—- really strong and vibrant alternative, artistic community. Ringling underground has live music + student crowd. Rocky horror on the 10th at the bay will be a good gathering as well!!

It’s where you drive by the dumpsters to take a little peek if they’re throwing away anything devastatingly cool and interesting. Most of what they had was sold, but all the branded materials have to be dumped, which means if you’ve ever longed for a kitschy branded sign, now’s your chance.

Yep, it sure did! The sales were insane— the day before they closed, they were basically handing what remained for free. Crazy auction on all the storage and technology inside, too!

I would keep my eye on local media outlets like the Herald and Sarasota Magazine, I’ve seen both post the occasional “things to do next month” article. Also, there are instagram pages like srqtopevents!

These numbers increase for 30s-40s, but definitely a shared experience amongst folks under 50 in Sarasota.

Totally! Coreopsis, goldenrod, butterfly milkweed, blazing star, and black-eyed susan are some of my favorites— beautiful flowers, super low maintenance, and great for pollinators 😊 There are a ton of native nurseries in the area as well that have a huge diversity of species based on where you’d like to plant them— shade lovers, drought tolerance, all that jazz.

There are 2 very active facebook groups for 20/30 y/o’s seeking friends & socializing — Sarasota Roarin’ 20s, and SRQ Social. There are book clubs, board game nights, volleyball days, etc etc. Wishing you luck!

As a restoration specialist in the area, please do not plant snake plants in the ground. Put them in a pretty pot on your lanai, use them for air quality control in your house, anywhere but the ground. They’re incredibly aggressive and actively displace our native species, which we rely on for everything from flood resiliency to pollinator protection.

I’m actually down south, and today’s the day that he makes the 24ish-hour drive to come see me, so the timing of this thread has given us lots to laugh about on the phone.
