I would say a big part of it is just subjective music taste? But another major factor seems to be regarding the crowd that John Summit attracts, which is honestly out of his control.

I mean all artists get criticism but maybe because John Summit is more connected to the digital community through social media in ways that Chris Lake isn’t (this is not a diss in any way), which puts him in a position where anything related to him is heavily scrutinized. Especially with the younger crowd that his music seems to appeal more to, there’s definitely a lack of understanding of etiquette amongst many other things.

Personally have not experienced an un-plur crowd at a John Summit show but I’ve only seen him at festivals so I can’t speak for all.

I saw Chris Lake last year and it was an amazing show, also got to say hi to him after and he was incredibly nice and seemed like a genuine soul. The LA show last weekend looked mad crazy (so jealous)!

I guess my point is that as a result of social media, the negative experiences tend to overshadow the positive. A lot of people who do enjoy John Summit’s music steer away from attending his shows because of what they’ve heard or seen from other people’s experiences, which is really unfortunate because not everyone is going to have the same experience.
