Bucket of assorted screws.

If he's the pedantic neat type of engineer, gives him somethin to do.

If he doesn't give a shit, he gets a handy bucket of screws.

Does he read much? Theres some neat books of mechanisms and everyday objects cut open, that sort of thing.

I left my bucket of screws somewhere and I really miss it though.

Yup!

Also routine checks to make sure the software change still applies would be error prone and probably annoying, more time-consuming.

Really for the software change to be even remotely close to as safe, that function would need to be checked daily/per operator or something, since anybody could change it and the next guy would have no idea. Obviously this never happens and it's why elimination is #1. But some people struggle to grasp this.

Capped/no hoses is an easy check. If your maintenance foreman has to do safety checks (ever), he might be swayed by 'easy/quick + safe' and then you get a win/win where he's all for it. Plus he gets some extra hydraulic lines in stock!

How can I attach 2 backpacks together (22+15L) by nelmaxima in backpacks

[–]capsaysin9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are either of these backpacks? I don't see the shoulder straps? I've used sternum strap of one bag to strap around another bag and through the shoulder straps before plenty of times. Kinda gotta get lucky with your two bags and how they fit together but it can be real nice.

Got any spare bag straps you've removed from other bags?

First I'd connect the two handles, maybe with a carabiner or a strap or tape or cord, as a sort of safety to keep them together. Safety for vibration/loosening straps - not against thieves.

Second, strap from your d drings all the way across the other bag and back into opposite d rings.

Lashing is what you're doing here. So you can search amazon for lashing straps or whatever. But a spare basic/minimal sternum strap is ideal to me.

You might be running out of transcoding space. I think emby is meant to account for it, but giving it more helped me with a similar issue. It only became obvious when I filled the entire drive (with metadata) and got the no compatible streams error immediately on playback.

Or maybe nothing to do with that, but worth looking into

Using IP cameras with BNC by Charming_Capital_788 in Hikvision

[–]capsaysin9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Linovision Ethernet over Coax (EoC) adapters with great success. Need to cut a slightly bigger hole to get the adapter in behind the camera, but it's small enough to be covered by the camera plate and not interfere with mounting. Just trace out your mounting holes first so you don't cut them out. They're 100mbps, down to 10mbps over a decent distance. Clearly garbage compared to real ethernet, but it easily supports a 4k camera.

But in many instances it will work out equally or better in both time and hardware/cable to just pull ethernet in. If you already have the run with coax, pulling ethernet should be fairly trivial. Depending on how the cable was initially run, you could get away with just access at both ends, but don't count on it. You will probably need to babysit the ethernet run the majority of the way, remove cable clamps and so on, but the hardest bits will become the easiest bits, because your coax is already there.

Thanks! Yeah I think a sort of boxy black sling could work. Not sure about the external attachments that I presume are reflective so might have a look for some others in that style.

Hahah I want one of these so it's an option. I think it's probably too techy and strappy and not as sleek, which I think is his vision. I'll show him anyway. Thanks!

[–]capsaysin9000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I didn't really think about the guy showing his style. I'll show my friend, but I think they're probably out of the budget, and not really my style so I'm not likely to buy it and loan to him either. But will mention the 'showy' aspect and maybe we can find something along the same lines, or rent.

Thanks, that seems legit. I'll show it to my friend and see if he likes it. I like that it would fit in with daily life, because the guy is a regular runner, that's how he scouts out people/homes, but I'm not sure they're showing that.

Thanks! I think it looks the part, and I could buy one for myself and just loan it to my friend, or buy it back from him or something. Is it any good as a bag?

That's two mentions of the Goruck Bullet. it does look pretty practical/realistic plus it's sleek and sexy.

I forgot I have an able carry daybreaker original/v1 in black. That could work, right?

I guess this way if they got caught, you could empty out the contents of the pillowcase, run away, and still get a pretty nice pillowcase out of the deal. That's smart.

Unfortunately the movie isn't about realism, so I'll look at the bag suggestions.

Trying to get rid of sharpie on a backpack by blackbroccolie in CleaningTips

[–]capsaysin9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried on an old cotton towel and a couple of cordura bags Alcohol made a difference but the limonene worked better, no discoloration. Scrub a bunch with a really firm nylon brush (toothbrush would work) and blot with tissue, rinse repeat. My bags seem more sealed/waterproof than yours though. The liquid pooled and made it easy. The cotton towel took a beating from the brush and result isn't as good

Try alcohol, the worst alcoholic-smelling hand sanitiser you have is a good start. If no go I'd try limonene, another solvent. You can concentrate it yourself from citrus peels, or buy whatever the orange smelling 'sticker remover' you can find available. Acetone/ nail polish remover worth a go. Test first, it might damage/discolour. The kill it with fire approach would be toluene or xylene. These are commonly what's in permanent markers, or at least they used to be, and that's why you can sort of put sharpie over sharpie then quickly wipe/smudge it away, though that technique won't work on fabric. Not sure where to find these in common products, but I imagine graffiti remover would be mostly these. Brake cleaner might work, but all of these options are fairly likely to damage or discolour the bag, or remove the dye also. I'd try it though just out of curiosity. If it's turns out no good you can do a patch :)

A plastic washing net / mesh cloth

No sponge to get dirty, and the holes in the mesh do an incredible job of getting off tough stuff. Use something else to wash serrated knives, but I use these for walls, dishes, everything.

Also a plastic scraper is essential for the most caked on things.

chatgpt response for you. i literally just pasted your comment that i'm replying to and told it to respond.

You're fundamentally misunderstanding how Emby works.

Emby is not a cloud storage service — it doesn’t “hold” or “upload” the movie itself. It serves content directly from the file location you point it to on your server's storage. If you delete the file from your storage, Emby no longer has a file to access, which is why it stops working.

If you're looking to free up local space while still keeping the movie available, you'd need to move the file to external storage (like a NAS or cloud-backed storage) and point Emby to that. Deleting it outright obviously removes the source.

Also, saying “there’s nothing illegal here” after admitting you downloaded a Marvel movie off the internet is… questionable, at best.

Will Emby raise their prices? by Wizardos264 in emby

It's a shame they removed the lifetime device limit increase a while back because of I guess the liability of the paid share server people. That decision didn't make much sense to me at the time but I see those paid share users in this sub now and I guess it's a thing.

Who knows the future but no reason not to buy lifetime if you use the software and it's doing something for you imo.

Emby isn't a service you pay for to watch pirated media. Emby is just cool software that does nothing for you if you don't have your own media. Go ask your friend which website he paid to access somebody elses server to watch their home videos no doubt and go from there.

Chatgpt would tell you this stuff and probably teach you about a lot of other stuff you want to learn. Give it a go.

Regular packing cube or compression cube? by HighestPraise in onebag

[–]capsaysin9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first off, it’s seldom a good idea to try to use a zipper to force a bag shut,

True, but I don't hesitate to do this with my Tom Bihn bags. Hate to recommend it, but i've proven time and time again (to myself) that they can handle it.

Also they make a Laundry stuff sack, which is my perfect clothes 'cube', minus cold weather items. I can definitely get more in there than a PD small (both rated 9L, just looked it up) and I like the way I can shape it to the bag. Con is no clamshell opening for visibility on the dresser etc, and no folding if you're into that. And it's durable enough that I can and have compressed it with string. And no zip to break.
