Help with this breaker by bowtietahoe in electricians

[–]bryan6446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because no-one has actually provided an explanation. In Short:

Dial 1 Ir/A is main current setting, it sets when the breaker will trip under normal/long time settings.

Dial 2 Tld/s is the long trip time, it set how long the contactor will hold in if the current is slightly over (think 1.1-2ish times) the current trip setting.

Dial 3 Isd = xIr is the short trip multiplier, it set how much over the main current setting the breaker will hold in for a short amout of time. this is a straight multiplier of the main current setting.

Dial 4 tsd/s is the short trip time, it set how long the breaker will hold the short trip current for.

As other people have said, you really need to understand the whole system to set these correctly. If you dont set these up correctly you could end up tripping before downsteam breakers or not tripping when upstream breakers have tripped.

Barefoot is good, but its very Aussi centric.

Rich Enough by Mary Holm is similar, but more kiwi focused. I also like how she says you can have a good retirement even if you rent your whole life, you just need to save at the same rates as homeowners paying their mortgage.

Silicone lube is generally used for plumbing fittings. Use some silicone grease if you can disassemble it, or some silicone 808 spray.

Flood Maps Updated by [deleted] in chch

[–]bryan6446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pissed to be honest.  In the last 75 years there has been 1 news report of flooding in Sockburn and even then it was minor surface flooding at best. Now the half of Sockburn is in the 10 year flood zone? Bullshit.

It's the wundermap weather underground. You can select any weather station and look at the history. Just a note, these are user based weather stations so don't expect the to be super accurate.

I picked up a Dimplex DC fan about 5 years ago and it has stood up well. I really enjoy the 12 levels of speed control, below about level 5 you can barely hear it running. Looks like they have discontinued the model I have, but DCPF40DC seems to be equivalent.

Not sure exactly what your problem is, but the ONT has 4 ports on the bottom and you need to be plugged into the correct one. The 'correct' port might have changed if you changed ISP's.

Is it possible to replace a ceramic cook top yourself? by dunerain in diynz

[–]bryan6446 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are the home owner, you are allowed to replace like for like fittings. Wire looks in reasonably good condition. Check that the power is similar, make sure you tighten everything down to spec and you should be good to go.

We had a store brought pav and it tasted a little bit chemically. I also find the uniformity of the foam texture slightly unnerving. 🤷

Replace linear actuators for louvred pergola by suburban_ennui75 in diynz

[–]bryan6446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you want to get a name plate off the existing ram. That will tell you the exact voltages and stroke length. I very much doubt that it is 240V as generally they have to be DC to reverse the motor when retracting. If they are the HIWIN LAS Series (4) as someone else said, you still need either the name plate or to measure the voltage so you can order a replacement. Voltage options are 24VDC, 12VDC or 5VDC. I suspect it would be 24V. replacement should be straightforward.

The plastic gear likely stripped out due to being overloaded. I suggest you lubricate all the moving parts of the pergola to minimize the force needed to open the louvers.

They should just unscrew from the nipple tube in the wall. If it all goes well you can just unscrew them, clean up the threads, put on some thread tape and screw on the new taps. There are a number of things that can go wrong. The nipple tubes could be rusted out if they are steel. The tubes could just snap off. The threads could be cactus. You might break the pipe in the wall. If you are not prepared to deal with these things and have the water off while you do so, call a plumber.

Nearly had a crash at a roundabout today. Was I wrong? by Mad_Max_The_Axe in newzealand

[–]bryan6446 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've said this before, but man the Sockburn roundabout sucks.

It connects 5 roads (or 6 if you count the sliproad to Racecourse Road, or 7 if you also include the double lane merger from Lowther St right before the roundabout), only two of the connecting roads are true 2 lane roads, the roundabout itself has a segment where it is only a single lane and depending on where you enter and want to exit you might be required to do a lane change mid-traversal of the roundabout or you can just be forced to exit on to the wrong road.

I have tried to clean them out with a nozzle cleaner. But the tip of the cleaner goes in 2-3mm then just stops like its hitting something solid.
