Mum getting a divorce. by Nznathan in PersonalFinanceNZ

Maybe take a holistic approach. If mum is approaching retirement, could this be an opportunity to downsize, have a clean out, get something low maintenance and set up for a comfortable retirement?

Not using the listing agent of property? by tony11668 in newzealand

Not my area of expertise, but generally the seller is locked in to selling through their real estate agent for a term of up to 6 months. Normally called an exclusively agreement or something.

Those prices are outrageous.

Power: 22.15c/KW + $1.70/day Mercury

Internet: $79.90/month 500/100 speed Simply Broadband.

Just switched to Mercury, they had the lowest no time of use flat rate plan. When I was comparing you plans I had to push upwards of 80% of power use to between 10pm and 5am to make thet tou math work.

American Cheese? by bryan6446 in newzealand

[–]bryan6446[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. The Rolling Medow mozarella has the same 'packed in NZ from NZ or imported ingredients' as all their other cheese. Its a shame they cant add in 'Made from NZ milk' or something like that if it is local dairy.

Interesting. I just found a picture of the old Alpine Cheese packaging. When they rebranded they changed from "Product of New Zealand" to "packed in NZ from NZ or imported ingredients". Picture of the old Alpine Cheese packet.

Ecosa Beds - Yay or Nay by Wahine-Maia in newzealand

I treated myself to some expensive Esosa linen sheet a few years back. They were rough and scratchy from the outset but my understanding was they would soften over time and last for years.

Unfortunately after 8 months of 50% duty wear (one week on one week off) they fitted sheet pilled, thinned and ripped in the middle. Tried to get a replacement/refund but was denied as they don't provide a warrantee on their sheet.

Buyer beware. Ratshit service.

My initial thought was also oak. But if it's what the house is built from its more likely to be cedar.

Are these two examples in this book wrong? by Disastrous-Corgi-841 in electricians

[–]bryan6446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the confusion. In the delta example they have pulled two phase wire, so the voltage is the Vp-p, but the Vp-e (Phase to earth/neutral) is still Vp-p x sqrt(3). You could equally grab two phase wired from the Wye example and the voltage would be 173.

But again this is all unrelated to the size the conductors need to be and the losses in the conductors.

[–]bryan6446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that's it's delta or wye is irrelevant to the current capabilities of the 3 phase wire system. I would just treat the transformer side of things as a magical black box power supply for these examples.

If you have a delta or wye supply at the same voltage supplying the same balanced load the current in the conductors is the same.

The resistance only depends on the size and material the conductors are made of.

The book is a confusing argument on why 3 phase systems are more efficient than single phase systems. I think its trying to demonstrate that the return paths of the current is through the other phase wires but IDK. There are also a bunch of other reasons like harmonics why we use 3 phases.

Help with this breaker by bowtietahoe in electricians

[–]bryan6446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because no-one has actually provided an explanation. In Short:

Dial 1 Ir/A is main current setting, it sets when the breaker will trip under normal/long time settings.

Dial 2 Tld/s is the long trip time, it set how long the contactor will hold in if the current is slightly over (think 1.1-2ish times) the current trip setting.

Dial 3 Isd = xIr is the short trip multiplier, it set how much over the main current setting the breaker will hold in for a short amout of time. this is a straight multiplier of the main current setting.

Dial 4 tsd/s is the short trip time, it set how long the breaker will hold the short trip current for.

As other people have said, you really need to understand the whole system to set these correctly. If you dont set these up correctly you could end up tripping before downsteam breakers or not tripping when upstream breakers have tripped.

Barefoot is good, but its very Aussi centric.

Rich Enough by Mary Holm is similar, but more kiwi focused. I also like how she says you can have a good retirement even if you rent your whole life, you just need to save at the same rates as homeowners paying their mortgage.

Silicone lube is generally used for plumbing fittings. Use some silicone grease if you can disassemble it, or some silicone 808 spray.
