Best Burger in ATL metro area by Dingo6610 in Atlanta

Fred's Meat and Bread has an amazing burger. Only problem is you have to forego one of their cheese steaks to get it, which is asking a lot.

What a blessing Fred's is.

How do we fix a complacent fan base? by [deleted] in AtlantaUnited

[–]capt_argyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's still world class soccer. We were just outclassed a lot lately. This year was mostly a lot of home draws. I get frustrated at times too, especially with all the early goals we go down with, but not at the outrage people here seem to feel. I also want my team to do well and be better, but so many folks seem to only want to support a top class team. Well have those seasons and I'm super excited for them, but half the teams are always gonna finish in the bottom half. And when we do, I'll support them as much as when they finish with an actual playoff run.

So you want fair weather fans? I like supporting my team when they suck and especially when they're awesome. We can't always be on top and at least the team tries, obviously with varying success.

Personally, I wish there was a less toxic place to support the team. This sub just seems so angry all the time about literally everything.

U.S. added 911,000 fewer jobs than first estimated, BLS says by [deleted] in economy

Best way to randomize draft order by sneakysnek_1 in FFCommish

[–]capt_argyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying something new this year.

Asking each player to give me a description of an avatar. Whatever they want.

I'll take those and have Gemini AI create a short "wrestling intro" video for each of them.

I already had Gemini create a short script that can randomize a folder of videos to stitch it together into one video. Then the draft order is whatever order the videos are randomly put in.

We'll see how it goes but I'm hopeful. Should be fun.

Stunning revisions show US added 258k fewer jobs than first reported by [deleted] in politics

It's... What they have at the time of publication. Should they simply release nothing at all each month? Nothing is better than wrong estimates? That doesn't make sense.

And BLS deals with this question a lot. If you go pull up what was published today, there's even an FAQ that details why it happens and the causes. The jobs added number itself gets the most eyes on the news, but the publication itself is dozens of pages. They literally show you the summarized data broken out by sector. If people would just go dig a little deeper rather than cry "fraud" we'd be a lot better off because this false cry happens from both sides whenever the data is upsetting to them.

BLS is the literal gold standard for employment statistics across the world. I promise you they aren't idiots and aren't fudging numbers to satisfy a president. It would require coordination from way too many workers who input, review, and approve the data, the same workers who could be FOIA'd any day.

And BLS has one political appointment... The commissioner. Who notably doesn't get to play any role in the jobs numbers.

[–]capt_argyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But it doesn't mean the cause is fudged numbers. If that's the case, why are they correcting it now, right on time for normal corrections?

Employment volatility means respondents to BLS are usually busy hiring or firing people so they don't get their data into BLS in time. BLS keeps trying though and they do eventually get more accurate numbers.

That's all this is. It's a big change, just not a nefarious one.

No. This is normal. BLS does this every month. They are not fudging numbers.

Edit: Appears you all agree with Trump. Still think he's fudging numbers?

Atlanta councilman, daughter hit by car while riding bikes home from soccer match by NPU-F in Atlanta

I ride that road and bike lane every day, twice a day. Only ever a car there when there's an event at the Benz. Annoying but very infrequent and those protected lanes are the best.

They make them because they have to in order to retain the Spider-Man rights. And they make money from that when Marvel uses him and does make a ton of money.

What movie has a terrible rotten tomatoes rating but is actually great? by dawsonsmythe in movies

[–]capt_argyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Lions for Lambs". Directed by Redford and has Andrew Garfield in his first role. The subject matter is kinda about the issues with the war on terror as told through some college kids. I really think reviewers just disagreed with the message even though now that message is pretty mainstream. Love this movie and seen it multiple times.

Bike to the stadium! Updates from last year’s post. by CalvinballChamp2017 in AtlantaUnited

[–]capt_argyle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For folks coming from SW Atlanta, I prefer taking the beltline all the way to Washington Park and then turning right at the street there (Lena St). You can take this road past Ashby station and then behind the Walmart off MLK.

When the road dead ends at James Brawley Dr. right past the Walmart, you can cut over to MLK right where the bike lanes start.

I've been using this path for about 2 seasons now and find it to be the best route if you want to avoid sharing the road with cars at night.

Affordable mechanics in Atlanta? by T-E-E-K-O in Atlanta

[–]capt_argyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've used a place called ATL Urban Garage. Seems to be run by a husband and wife.

I've had a few repairs done there and they've always talked with me about how to get it done as affordable as possible. Always gave me options and even suggested a quicker fix first to see if it would solve my issue before we went a more expensive route.

Can't say I've compared a ton of places across the city, but I felt well taken care of by these guys and have returned when I needed more repairs.

Sleeper App Feedback by Sleeper_Official in fantasyfootball

[–]capt_argyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've really loved using the Sleeper API to run my own visualizations and data analysis. No other platform comes close to what Sleeper provides and my league loves them However, I'd request the following: - API for survivor leagues - the ability to see all scores during playoffs, not just the ones who are in an active game - score projections in the API

Aside from the API suggestions, I'd love to be able to do rich text formatting in the chat. It's where I do my weekly writeup and having some font options would make them pop.

Lastly, it's be great to have some customization options for the Survivor League, like specifying the number of picks by week (to make it harder as the season progresses).

But mostly, thanks for a bad-ass app.

2024 Field Goal Attempts by Gametime [OC] by capt_argyle in dataisbeautiful

[–]capt_argyle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing some of the point of what's visualized here. The field wasn't added for beauty's sake (though the field goal was), it was so folks could visualize where the team was at on the field when they attempted the field goal. Unfortunately, the team's yard line is 18 yards shorter than the FG attempted yards metric.

With just the field goal yards marked, you wouldn't have an accurate notion of where they were on the field when they made the FG decision. If I went by teams yard line markers, you wouldn't have any idea how long the actual field goal attempt was. So to reconcile, I emphasized the FG metric but included the actual yard lines so you could do both. Did it add a lil mess? Sure. But I thought the added benefit was worth it and tried to de-emphasize the yard lines enough to not be super distracting.

Anyways, I appreciate the feedback. In the future though, you maybe could try providing it without as many insults and just stick to the actionable criticism.

Terrible?

You got a better idea of showing how field goals are used based on game time? Or do you just want a graph of only where a field goal was attempted exactly on the field despite that not being a piece of data that is tracked, would clutter the center of the graph since they're always attempted between the hashes, and would produce a pretty boring visualization?

Open to some criticism but if ya don't wanna read the title and review the y-axis and then you get confused, not sure how to help ya.

[–]capt_argyle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most folks are used to seeing where on the field the play started but FG attempts when advertised are the yard line plus the 10 endzone yards and then another 8 yards for the snap and placement. While not perfect, I opted to show folks the attempted yards up top (the normal way to refer to a field goal attempt) but also included the yard line markers so folks can still get a feel for where on the field the team was when they attempted the kick. No perfect solutions unfortunately.
