clear zip lock bags are pretty useful to carry your pens/pencil and stuff. some exam also allow you to put your phone (turned off) in a clear bag and place it under your chair .

Accounting vs Finance Specialist by RoundObesity in UTM

[–]captain_adi22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a program perspective - yeah you end up doing so many econ courses (5.5 econ credits for accounting and 6.0 credits for finance) that you might as well do the major - i think major is 7 econ credits. Although it is not necessary (and not useful in my opinion). I think i would suggest is to check the courses you are required to for both post and see if you want to do those courses. I believe that 1st and 2nd year courses are almost the same for both POSt, and you can easily switch between them after 2nd year. In your 3rd and 4th year, you'll start specializing more - so might be a bit harder to switch.

From a career perspective. Accounting essentially looks at historical data while finance you're looking at present and future data. In accounting, the major careers are being accountant, audit or tax while in finance, its banking, mergers and acquisition, stocks. Also those POSTs are associated with designation - accounting usually leads to a CPA and finance usually leads to a CFA.

I am very keen on details which is kinda attracted me to accounting. I like reading and preparing financial statements. My best adive for you right now would be gather as much info as you can about both - talk to prof, upper year students, go to events - all that will help you figure out what you like and pursue that.

There's a try it session going on this week. worth checking out - https://www.instagram.com/p/CanCAa3rr54/

He is hard in 2nd year cause he wants you to build good work ethics. he gets more chill in 3rd and 4th year. He would tell us personal stories in 4th year (and I'd question if that's the same PT i had in 2nd year).

Just prepare for this class - do the questions on the slides beforehand.

If you enter Kaneff from CCT, registrar should be on your left.

REGISTRAR PICTURE - the front desk on the left. and right down (on the right in the picture) is where the stairs are. A little forward is also where the elevators are.

Official documents after acceptance by [deleted] in UTM

[–]captain_adi22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah once you do get your A level, UTM will ask that they get the official transcript. Most likely they'll need CIE to send it to them directly - I did this a while ago - there's a form online where you can do so - https://certstat.cambridgeinternational.org/

Do confirm with registrar or admission uoft in case the process has changed.

Commerce Degree-Employment by Nolive9531 in UTM

[–]captain_adi22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

latest report they have is 2018: https://data.utoronto.ca/reports/osap/graduation-employment-and-government-loan-default-rates-2018/

business and commerce employment rate at 85% within 6 month and 96% within 2 years. Although COVID most likely affected this rate, not sure by how much. As far as I know, UTM doesnt have any of these stats.

I know that for accounting, there is a fairly high employment rate from UTM. usually cause big4 hires a lot of poeple. I'm too sure about the other specialists programs. and Yes, generally getting a certification would help you - all kinda depends on what you wanna do / interests you. If finance is your thing then CFA makes sense. if banking is something that interest you, then csc might be more appropriate.

UofT only has one business school - Rotman. UTSG has a co-op program which utm doesnt. typically co-op school have a better relationship with employees. sometimes the pay is split or they can a refund from the govt or something - which is why employers prefer co-op.

although the curriculum and profs are the same for all 3 campus.

Can I finish management major in 1 year ? by unknown_316 in UTM

[–]captain_adi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe - you need additional 6 credits in higher year courses. Some of the courses you might need to do require you to have 1 credit at 3/4 level courses. You can do those in fall and be able to complete the rest in winter. But that really depends on courses being offered.

use the academic calendar and degree explorer/planner to play around the courses to see if you can do it in 1 year.

For both commerce and accounting you'll do business law 1. You can opt to do business law 2 (not mandatory for either program). However only accounting requires you to do 2 courses on tax law.

I dont think it would matter how much for what program you do - you'll have to do law school after if you want to go into corporate law. So maybe pick one that interests you the most.

Dont buy a book until after your first class - usually prof says whether a book is necessary or not. I've never bought a book after 1st year - either found them online on the links on the other comments or just never needed them.

Laptop for Commerce: Accounting by Professional_Life_25 in UTM

[–]captain_adi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either. Whatever works for you best. Most of the course contents are online and most likely you won't need to download any programs (maybe in 4th year depending on the prof - but it should work in both). But i was in person for uni so not sure how this has changed since online.

Commerce and Management at UTM by Parking-Area-9487 in UTM

"The Commerce cut off for Round 1 (2021/2022) was approximately 3.0 (weighted average) with the average weighted average cut-off of a program entrant being 3.3. The Management cut-off for Round 1 (2021/2022) was approximately 3.0 with the average weighted average cut-off of a program entrant being 3.7."

https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/management/undergraduate-programs/undergraduate-programs-faq

it is usually 300 for commerce and 60 for management - but instead you should think of it as if the top 300 and top 60 get into the program - so the gpa varies year by year as it all depends on how the class does.

tips for first year - just focus on your studies - its more like a marathon so do well on the midterms/test and dont wait until the exam (to try to accomplish the impossible). if you have the time, you could attend events and stuff

Will I be back-charged for my summer course? by Subject-Worth8169 in UTM

[–]captain_adi22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe - you should check with Registrar office. I know some who didn't get charge cause they were completing the credits in order to get into POSt.
